I personally have not, but then again I don't drink a lot of coffee or soda.

Caffeine is a known irritant to the GI lining though so it's not surprising.

I used to have a cup of coffee everyday. Used <_<

Caffeine seems not to go well on me either, although I could have it in my first months gluten-free. Coffee, Coke, black tea, you name it.

I only drank caffeinated drinks before going gluten-free. Coffee all morning and then sweet tea all day, followed by coffee in the evening after dinner, then tea until bedtime. When I went gluten-free I also eliminated coffee and tea. I was strictly drinking water, Lactaid milk and OJ. After 2 weeks or so I reintroduced caffeine, but I only allow myself one cup of coffee per day. I do not drink sweet tea (damaging to my teeth was the main reason I quit that one) so the only other caffeine I may get is from soda, but only then when I eat out.

Here's the interesting part. I do not know what was causing my headaches. I had them every single day for many years. I lived on ibuprofen. What I do not know is if the caffeine had me on the edge of dehydration all the time (was constantly thirsty) or if the celiac (or celiac/caffeine combo) was the cause. Whichever it is, I am not going back to full caffeine because I have had one migraine and zero regular headaches since going gluten-free. And the migraine was noise induced by the flooring guys installing hardwood flooring in my house. So I think I've really had zero headaches in 2 months. That's never happened in my entire life.

Long answer, but caffeine can cause bad stuff in some people, depending on how much is consumed, so trying elimination may answer any concerns you may have about whether it's having any effect on you.

Wow SMDBill, that's fantastic.

I know some people are really sad (by which I probably mean resistant!) to dropping coffee. It is so long for me I dont really remember. I hope hearing your experience persuades some people to try it.

    • Please help,  I am 30.All my life from childhood I had upset stomach pain and cramps.As a child was frequently treated for giardia and still had cramps.As a child so strange I had bumps with water on skin.Not redness nothing else.Just bumps filled with water all over my body.Later I never had these.But in my early teens I started with fatigue anxiety.Then extreme fatigue.Hair fallen.Eyebrow loss over a few years to nonexistent eyebrow.Always low iron even with supplementing.Low vitamin D3.Low calcium and magnesium.Gastrointestinal for a few months now I have cramps daily.Diarheea almost daily.Treated for parasites and giradia.nothing changed. OTHER symptoms.  Bone pain.Spinal pain.Headache.Eye floaters.Done MRI and eye exams nothing all clear Low iron again at blood work. Low exercise tolerance. So bloated I seem like pregnant in 9 months even !!!if i lost weight the last three months Itchiness all over body but no bumps just redness Itchiness extreme on the scalp. Petechiae small red spots all over my body this is for years now. Tried gluten free even though in my country very hard to keep up with this. Only for few days then gave up and tried again and so on. Did some blood work but only 2 antobodies and not IGa and Igg judt one of them.Negative.this was two years ago. I don't know what to do. Oh and mouth ulcers. And have gas i am afraid because i can hardly control because i am extremely bloated. I am desperate. Thanks.  
    • I know this thread is very very old, but I want to suggest one thing to tired people. Get a sleep study. Sleep apnea is something that can cause you to be very tired, and it can kill you. A sleep study is super easy and the cost of an office visit copay. It's easy to treat with cpap and it's amazing how much better you feel.
    • Hi Monica I hope you are feeling better now.  In any case, your post made me think of something I have been reading about lately - Dr. Satsha Gominak's work. It connects sleep disorders and body aching. She corrects it by tightly controlling the levels of vit. D and B complex. Be aware that this can be caused not only by too little panthotenic acid, but also too HIGH panthotenic acid supplementation. And we celiacs sometimes rely too much on our suplemments.. I am guilty too.  Unfortunately, she is not the most straightforward speaker but her work is very eye opening. Please look into it.   
    • Always carry lots of gluten-free snacks whenever you travel, on the flight and elsewhere. Sometimes you are hungry and need something right away and it's too hard to find a place to accommodate ! I always packed one suitcase of food, which also included non gluten-free snacks for my 3 boys. We are always very thrifty, lol.
    • You may want to keep a food and symptom journal. Our reactions can be delayed and that can make it hard to pinpoint what 'got' us. A journal can help you see a pattern and help us figure it out. Enjoy that pudding.
