Fructose is the sugar in fruit. All, or nearly all of fruits contain it. I think it is in honey also. Be leary of fruit juices for sure! People breed fruit to be as high as possible in fructose. So far as I know I am not intolerant of it, but I am extremely careful with fruit. I think of having bites rather than whole fruits.

I think I am fructose intolerant (based on an elimination diet) but I am waiting until my gut has healed before getting formal testing. For now, I just avoid things that give me problems, no matter what they are.

There are lots of good lists online, but they are all different (research keeps changing). A really good list is here: http://ibs.aurametrix.com/2011/04/fodmap-diet.html

There are some tests you can take, but none are proved 100% reliable (yet). The best thing to do is to find a doctor in your area who knows something about it. The Yahoo! group for fructose malabsorbtion may be helpful in doing research and finding a doctor: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/fructose_malabsorption/

I joined the group when I was testing, and they are very nice.

Apparently fructose malabsorption can show up alongside celiac. But you could also have other issues (SIBO, leaky gut, whatever) that could cause problems that look a lot like it, so that's why it's nice to have a doctor or good dietician to help you out. Eliminiation diets are tricky -- sometimes they seem pretty definitive and sometimes they are confusing. Just FYI, all humans are fructose intolerant to some degree...it's just we differ in how much we can take. A tiny bit of pear gives me a stomach ache, but other people may need to eat 3 or 4 pears to get the same result. It's just people who aren't fructose intolerant almost never push their limits and my tolerance is a fraction of a pear, so I push it all the time. Some people are even more sensitive and can't hardly eat anything (!). But that's extremely rare.

    • I posted this because ... I wanted us to have some info and see news reports about stuff related to Celiac/gluten free.  But I haven't seen any new tests on the Cheerios.  Has anyone?  
    • I have problems with corn so I have to be aware of that when shopping for spices and gluten-free baking products as Raven pointed out. I use Badia which states certified gluten-free As for encouragement drink lots of water and rest. A nice soak in tub sometimes is soothing. I hope it passes soon. If you find out it is gluten-free after all ask about corn in product, on the line, or facility . May your symptoms be minimal and pass fast  best wishes edit: it was Karen not Raven who mentioned corn  starch my bad entirely 
    • Nov 18, 2015 >.< yeah it was older, Checked some newer testing others have done and found the more recent ones under 5ppm.....so perhaps they got their act together. I still am that old dog recalling being hit and growling at them about it.
    • Yes, I've seen these and believe that these were taken during the time period that GM had an issue with a contaminated truck, and this caused them to issue a recall on batches made at a plant. If I am correct about this, that was years ago, and they have corrected that issue. What is the link for this? What time period were these tests done?  I am fairly certain you are showing old data here, that is old news that was dealt with by GM...but please share if you know.

      Sorry to be the jumpy rabbit, but once bitten twice shy, I recall when they first came out with gluten-free cheerios....yeah it was worse back then and that pain and trickery will not be forgiven.
