So the worms function as a re-set mechanism so that, in the case of diabetes, the pancreas will start producing insulin again.

There was a story a few years ago on NPR about a man suffering from, I believe, allergies (or asthma). He was desperate and hooked up with hookworms which he said cured him.

I've just been reading about the coincidence of appendicitis and other lower bowel diseases (ulcerative colitis etc) with sit toilets in the 19th century. Apparently squatting evacuates more. And you don't blow out the ileocecal valve like you can when sitting. They say squatting is actually recommended. 'They' being a very few people and probably not doctors, but who really knows these day.

Wow, this is interesting. It does seem sometimes that we in the US are too sanitized for own good.

On the other hand, having lived in Mexico and suffering several very severe bouts of amebic dysentery, I may be one of the last folks you'll see voluntarily ingesting any more parasites. :)
