  1. My grandma was diagnosed over 2 years ago. We watch everything we eat and use. She still has breakouts. We are beginning to wonder if it's not her vitamins and supplements. Maybe even her shampoo. She also has osteoporosis and must take calcium. Does anyone have the name of some safe vitamins and calcium supplements. Also, brands of shampoo that are safe? We are about at our wits end. Help please

I have celiac and found that wal-mart has gluten free multi-vitamins.Make sure you get century,i buy the one's that are family size(300).Good luck.

  3. Hi Balena! Welcome to the board :)

Here is a list of safe foods and ingredients for you to refer to--

    https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-01106126900.90

I don't know if you get this in Canada, but I use Smart Balance Margarine. It is marked gluten free right on the label.

There are many great food products and ideas in the Foods, Products, Shopping and Medicine Forum. Read through that and the Recipe Forum--and feel free to ask any questions you have. Good luck :)

I would like to thank you for your help and greeting,i appreciate it.Maybe you might know why i have involuntary twiching from time to time. Both my eye's and my right hand more than my left.So much that my fork went flying over the table to my daughter. My smokes go flying whatever i have in my hand at the time.Again thank you for thr info. Bonnie in ontario

  4. For your daughter's biopsy, did they biopsy the area next to the sores, or her intestine? I would think her sores should be biopsied to see if it's dh.

For eating, just remember, meat, chicken, fish, eggs, fruit, vegetables, potatoes, and rice are gluten-free, depending, of course, on how they're prepared. But if you're cooking them at home you know they're safe. Also butter is safe. I don't know much about margerines, so I'll leave that question for others.

Along with the basic food list, if you can have dairy you can have real cheese (some blue cheese and gorgonzolas are not okay), milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. Nuts and nut butters are fine.

I know there are others on the forum who have great lists, but those are the basics for you.

I would like to thank you for the information. As for my daughter they biopsyed her intestines but nothing we are waiting for the dermatoligist next week. This is going on 1 and a half yreas now for her,you sure can't get in to see the doc's fast enough,i mean her legs and body are badly scared.I feel very sorry for because she is so beautiful and this has made her so self conscous and shy.She won't wear skirts or shorts or short sleeve's.She is very tall and was a model. Now she is always depressed and down,i just wish i can help her faster. But i thank you again for your help. Bonnie in ontario

  5. The Clan Thompson Smarlist shows the following margarines as gluten-free:

    Blue Bonnet Regular (Quarters)

    Fleischmans Original and Unsalted Sticks

The above are made by ConAgra

    Also:

HyVee Corn Oil Quarters and Vegetable Oil Quarters AND Bowl.

There are others on the list like Denny's Liquid or Whipped

    Safeway/Vons/Domicks/Randalls Margerine (all)

    McDonald's Margarine

    Price Chopper Margarine and Spreads

All pure butters are gluten-free - salted and unsalted.

As ALWAYS: READ THE LABEL BEFORE EATING.

You must be in Canada, because Imperial is only sold there now (according to their website) - and it doesn't have any info on Gluten, that I can find.

I would like to Thank you very much for the info.It will be a big help.I do live in canada.Even if i read the labels i am still not sure of what i am looking for, some i think i know ,mostly wheat....lolol actually thats about it.But again thank you

  6. Hi this is my first time asking a question and being a member.I was diagnosed with celiac about 2 and a half yrs. ago,i was 121 lbs and drastically lost weight,83 lbs. then up to118 and down to 105 now i seem to be there for ever. This is not my normal weight but i guess now maybe it's going to be...lolo. But my question is, does anybody know what other kinds of margerine or butter i can have other than imperial?.When i go out and dine i ask what kinds they use and i can never remember what kinds.I have tried looking in the safe foods for celiac's but it's not there. To this day i am still just surviving on what little i know i can eat.My memory is so bad,i used to carry a list with me but i seemed to have lost it.It gets frustrating as hell when i go out to buy food i can't remember if i can have it or not.Can anyone help me with a simple food list that's not too too....lolol expensive.I am on disability and don't have a car and there is no close store, they are all over the place. This just gets me more depressed and i don't have an appetite,i don't have energy.I don't even have the money to join the celiac assotiation in my city.I am 44 yrs.of age and have 2 girls,25 and 18 yrs old the 18 yr. old lives with me and am a grandma of 1.My 18 yr. old has L.D disabilities and some form of celiac we are still trying to find out what kind, she breaks out in these real bad big sores all over her body and they are scaring her. Her biopsy came back normal but blood test shows that her GI levels are on border line. Can anyone help me there as well.I am hitting a brick wall,i don't know what else to do.help me please if you's can.Desperate in Thunder Bay on.

    Thank You

  7. Hi :(

This is my first time asking a question,i had a list or i should say pages of what foods i could eat. I have celiac disease have been diagnosed about 2 and a half yrs. ago.I am just still surviving on the little foods i know i can eat.Because my memory is so bad i can't remember the foods i can and can't have.I lost the papers i had to go by.The thing i do remember is i can have margerine but it has to be imperial,i know there are others i can have i think. Does any body know where i can get this information?,it is not in the safe foods list i checked.Or does anybody know what other kinds of margerine and butter i can have.Any idea's on foods would be a great help.I am on disability and really don't have much money,i have no car and their is no close store,so any idea's on how to obtain food and what kind would really help.I was at 121 lbs. went down to 83 lbs. back up to 118 lbs. now am down to 105 and can't get anywhere.I loose weight just thinking about it.My metabolisim is so high it is hard to put weight on and keep it there. So any help on safe foods and the margrine thing would help.I am always stuck when i go to dine out,i know no other margerines or butter.Thank You for any help you's might give me.

  8. I am also having problems gaining weight. I am currently 22 and have been diagnosed with celiac disease since I was a few months old. I have always been thin/lean as I spent most of my school days playing sport. However as I have got older I hevent gained much weight at all depite the fact that I eat like a horse. About 3 years ago I was also diagnosed with ulcerative colitis which was a bit of a shock - I was extremely ill for over a year and am currently taking asacol tablets to keep the condition under control. I was also on steroids for a while to counter-act the negative effects of the laxatives etc I had to take (I have had 3 colonoscopies since I was diagnosed). As bizarre as it may seem however, I still didnt gain any significant weight when taking steroids, I just found I was eating more often.

I wouldn't say I was severely under weight, Im just a little puzzled at how I can eat so much and yet my weight doesn't seem to change. Sometimes the effects are noticable (looking in the mirror etc), other times its simple things like my watch almost falling off my wrist as the amount of flesh on the bone has decreased.

I'd like to do something to gain weight, even if only a few pounds.

I have read the replies above and may try some of the food changes proposed, any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Would someone such as my GP be able to offer any advice?

Hi just a few cents to add,i am in the very same boat.2and a half yrs ago i was diagnoised with celiac disease. I used to weigh 123lbs. I went down to 83lbs. and in a wheel chair, now i walk on my own. This is how i did it.The doc said to go on nutritient drink,i drink a safeway brand and it's strawberry, your preference. I was given a cookbook gluten free of course, and looked through for some reciepes found one jam cookies.Well i made these twice a week and ate them as often as i could in a day along with my nutritient shakes, and my daily intake of food for the day.I ate and ate and ate these cookies and shakes for 3mths.went right up to 125lbs.The texture of the cookies are the same as short bread no difference they are very good, and i am one for texture.these cookies have all different names for them ,Thumbprintz. It's a ball of dough you make a little indent in the middle and fill it up with a little jam of your liking.Trust me this works .It takes alittle time rolling the dough into little balls but it's worth the weight.........lololo. Hope this helps. If you want the receipe just let me know it's simple.balena967@hotmail.com
