  1. I am not sure where you are from but here in NY state, I have eaten ate two different Olive Gardens and ordered the pasta, once without grilled chicken the second time with and I have gone home both times with a box. I am a pasta eater and can easily eat quite a bit of it. Yes, I eat the salad as well. I have not tried another restaurant that does gluten free pasta as there are not many or I seem not to find them around where I live. Hope this helps.

  2. Sorry to hear things aren't going well. Do you have anyone else in the family that you can turn to or may be able to help in any way? I have the same problem but I am the mom with celiac and have one child out of 4 that has it as well. He is 23 and doesnt follow the diet and now is very sick. He lives on his own and eats whatever he feels and I am trying to get him better and eating better. This can be very harmful if the gluten fre diet is not followed. If you ever want to talk most everyone on here will listen. So do your best to try and follow the diet and eat fruits and veggies, hopefully in time you will start feeling better. ;)

  3. Hey I hear all of you. I have been gluten free for about 3 1/2 years. I tried to have my mother tested and she says no. I have a son age 23, who is celiac and also diabetic type 1. He was just recently hospitalized due to the celiac being so out of whack in his system that the diabeties is killing him. So now I am trying to get him eating gluten free and not just blowing it off, as well as keeping his diabeties in check. I have bought foods for him cause I have read labels and gone through this. My mom buys cornflakes, because it is made of corn she figured it was ok. I have to keep reminding her that she needs to read the labels. I am also going to write down the words for her: Gluten Free, NO WHEAT, NO RYE, NO BARLEY, AND NO MALT. Maybe now she will do better but I have to check all foods before she takes it to my son. My son has a learning disability and doesn't comprehend and will eat anything that is bought for him. I dont want to keep racking my head against the wall, but I have to, to make sure he has the proper foods. Thanks for letting me vent.

  4. Hi, everyone, I hear you. I have been diagnosed with celiac since March of 2006. For about the past year I have had the problem with having to go to the bathroom several times a day and during the night. After being diagnosed, I went off the milk and gluten and felt better after about 6 months. I felt better, but the past year I noticed more about going to the bathroom more and have to way one of those pads due to leakage. I asked my doctor and he said keep doing kegel exercises and it will help. Now I am tryin to see another doctor to get a second opinion. Any ideas, hope you can share. Thanks, if I come across something from the new doctor I will share.

  5. I was on amitriptelyne for migraine control. My problem with it is that I gained weight. I was only on 10mg but along with that I had verapmil which is usually for high blood pressure but the combo of both acts as migraine control. which has worked well, except the weight gain. I have gone off of it for about 2 weeks and have lost 5 pounds of the 30 I have gained in the last 6 months. Back to the drawing board as far as migraine control. I was told being on a gluten free diet that I would lose weight. Did not work for me on that aspect. I am trying hard to eat healthy and tend to overeat, I feel hungry all the time. No idea where to go from here....... :(

  6. I bought gluten free frozen pie crusts at the local natural food store. I sprinkled sugar across the bottom before putting in the filling and didn't taste too bad. Didn't care for the frozen burger and hot dog rolls though. Last year I made pie crust from a mix and it took forever. If I have time I would use it again. Good luck to whatever you find and use.

  7. Hi, I just thought I'd share that I had a biopsy for something unrelated and was told I was positive for Celiac and was followed up with a blood test. I have four boys, three of which have been tested and only one has been confirmed Celiac and he is also a juvenile diabetic. My fourth son was having stomache issues and we went to have him tested with a blood test and somehow the hospital lab didn't do that test, said it was unnecessary, how can they say that when the doctor orders it. I spoke my mind to the doctor's office and they are willing to redo this test at no charge, but why should my son go through having blood taken when it was not his fault? I have been thinking about changing his doctor, he has had this one since birth and the doc knows him well. it probably was Not sure what to do now. His stomache issues only lasted a couple of days and was probably only a virus. Well, I guess I voiced myself. Sorry for going off track. So I believe it can be possible for only sibling to have Celiac and not another.

  8. My guess would be how sensitive are you? I normally do not have any reaction to food smells in the air except for when my mother was baking a pot roast and whatever combination of seasonings she used made me ill. As soon as I walked outside I felt better, walked back in and it hit me again. Also a co-worker brings her lunch back with her during the afternoon and eats at her desk and again certain seasonings have made me sick just from the smell. I have to tell her to go to the kitchen area to finish so I can work.

So it may be unlikely but there is always a chance (IMO).

  9. I did call the doctor back after talking to the nurse at the allergy clinic. She suggested getting ears thoroughly checked by the ENT doc. I asked my doctor what they wanted me to do and because my blood pressure was 100 over 60 they want me to see a nuerologist. I also get migraines and they want to rule out anything about the migraines first. I see the nurse at the allergy clinic weekly and can get an appointment to see the ENT, I just have to let them know when first.

    Thanks for eveyone's input.

  10. Hi all, just wanted to see if this could be something with celiac or just plain something else going on. Monday night I started feeling a little dizzy, blurred vision with a headache on the right side of my head. As the night went on, the worse I felt, dizzy, nauseous, room spinning constantly, headache, D, going to the bathroom a lot. I went to work and an hour after being there I could not function, or walk hardly at all by this time, I was driven home and called the doctor. Got in and and after explaining all the symptoms and what had happened since the night before and asking the doc if this could be celiac related, I was told I was dehydrated. He gave me a script for dizziness and nausea, and told me to eat some chips and drink lots of fluids. Yesterday I went in to work the later half of my day and had moments where I felt alright and others when I wasn't sure what I was doing or forgeting how to do it. I work in an office as a secretary. I have been doing what I should, drinking gatorade, taking meds, eating foods with sodium in it. Today I still feel drained, like I did two days ago. I am going to call the doctor to see what else it could be but I really can not afford to miss any more work.

Just wondering if anyone else may have similar symptoms or know what is happening. Any comments would be helpful, especially when calling the doctor and letting him know there could be something else going on.

    Thanks for listening.

  11. Hi celiac3270, I just got back from a trip and know of only a couple of places that had gluten free on the menu or spoke to the managers before ordering. We are planning another trip for next year and would love to have more than a couple of choices, so can I get a copy as well of the resturants? Thanks.

  12. Well, a few weeks ago, I thought possibly I had a bad tooth. Well after finding a dentist that actually took a patient, not of their own and getting checked out, it is my sinuses. Well, I do have allergies and I called my pcp and got a script for augmentin. Well at first it was fine, about the third day I felt sick, still in pain and figured it was all caused by the sinus inflamation. So I keep taking the medication, pain subsided after about 8 days and the doctor said to finish the meds cause he wrote it for 15 days. I have three days left and not taking it anymore.

I do have celiac, diagnosed by biopsy and then bloodwork and really never had any symptoms until I eat something now since going gluten free, or possibly in this case took a medication that I shouldn't have. My doctor knows I have celiac as well. I have felt bloated, stomache cramps, missed 2 1/2 days of work, nauseous, d but only slight until today, and also felt like I am there but not really. I know that sounds weird, but has anyone else felt like that and have any suggestions? Also does anyone really know what is in Augmentin? I tried looking it up but then you have to look those words up and then those words and get lost in figuring it all out. :(

If anyone can help, I would appreciate it. I am calling the pharmacy and also calling the doctor to see if there is anything else that can be done. <_<

  13. I too had the ultra sound.....Nothing. Then they did the endoscopy to rule out ulsers and found hiatal hernie and gall bladder problems. We also went as far as to have the HIDA scan which came back with 12.8%. I asked what that meant and was told that is how much it was working. I asked out of 100%. I was told yes. THen told my choice to have it out or not. UMMMMM no brainer, live with pain and eat applesauce for the rest of my life or have it out????????? I had it out a couple weeks later, with all of the tests that is when I was diagnosed with Celiac. Then had a follow up blood test to confirm the rest of biopsies and such. Only one gall bladder attack that did not quit and ended up in the ER. Took two months from day one til surgery, but well worth getting out.

  14. I have four boys. None of them were sick at all as kids. When my oldest at age 16 almost 17, all of a sudden over a period of a month was sick every day vomiting. He was also helping his uncle clean out an old house full of dust and stuff and my son being sick was him helping clean this house. When the vomiting started to burn his throat, (when I was told he had been sick every day for a month), we went to the ER to find his sugar level was 618 and was told then he had diabetes type 1. After several days in the hospital to bring his level down and learning what he needed to do daily, we started our lives with him and everyone learning how to help him if he needed it. This was in 2002. No one else in the family, either side has diabetes type 1.

In 2006, I ended up having a gall bladder attack, and learned through the scope and blood test that I had celiac. I did a lot of reading and came across this web site with many others and learned about celiac and diabetes type 1, that if you are diabetic chances are you may in fact be celiac. After urging doctors to check my son for celiac and they wouldn't, my son ended up in a diabetic coma with a level of 1661. I begged the hospital to check for celiac, still they wouldn't. His liver levels were high and they couldn't figure out why. 4 months after being released from the hospital I went with my son to the liver specialist, who happened to be in the same office as the gastroenteroligist, and asked again and even dragged the doctor I had into the room and asked for the blood test to check to see if he had celiac. I was told this will take about 2 weeks or so for results, 4 days later, the primary care physician, called and asked who ordered these tests. After explaining that I had, he said good thing you did because this came back as positive for celiac, no doubt.

I had no idea about celiac until I found out two years ago that I had it. If it wasn't for me knowing what celiac even was, because I had never heard of this until that time, my son may have not found out he has it. Two of the three boys have been checked. I had no symptoms of anything until I had a gall bladder attack. I try to educate people at work who complain about different symptoms and tell them to have their doctor check to see if it is celiac. More and more people are learning every day they may have this, but not enough people in the world even know what celiac even is.

  15. No words of wisdom, sorry :( But this May I will be traveling and although it is only for four days, I am worried about being able to eat as well. I do plan to pack snacks for myself incase something like this happens. Usually in the warmer months I tend to eat more salads, so I am hoping not to have to use that as a last resort. I have looked up online the past few days where we will be going, what restaurants they have in the area and even looked up supermarkets that carry gluten free foods, I guess more to check it out to see what products for gluten free people they may carry that I can or not get at home. As for shampoos and other toiletries, I plan on taking my own. I am the only one with celiac, so I can keep things for myself seperate. Good luck and I hope you can enjoy the rest of your trip.

  16. Congratulations. What are the rest of his stats.....length, any hair, name?

I have one grnad daughter and she will be five this summer. When they tried for a second child, they miscarried. They have not tried again more for fear than anything. But they do want another. Maybe someday.

But congratulations and enjoy them all, they grow up way to fast. ;)

  17. When you first started to babysit did you ask the mom what the child ate, how much and how often? Some children depending on their upbringing, may not take naps or may eat more than other children. It may as well have something to do with a digestive problem. Unless you know the child very well and how the mom has raised her and feeds her, no one will know for sure. As far as two bananas, I found out first hand one banana is plenty, too many bananas, the potasium in them can raise the blood pressure and you can get sick from it. Did you try toast or cereal?

I have a grand daughter that can eat a lot as well. She would eat all day if I let her, I try to keep her on a regular schedule of three meals a day but my son and his girlfriend let her snack all day between meals, which at my house is a constant getting her food and cleaning up. She is now 4 1/2 years old. If this is something that has occurred since birth then she has the stomache to eat that much and feels hungry all the time. She is very tall for her age and very skinny. She also has a lot of energy.

I know some children who eat three times a day, no snacking and even at ages 4 and 5 take morning and afternoon naps. Like I said, depends on the parent raising that child. You said you have only been babysitting for 8 days, I woul talk to the mom, get more info and see if maybe there is more going on. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
