georgie replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I am catching this thread late. What is SCD Diet and where are the recipes ? Is it like Atkins ? I always did well on Atkins but it was s..o... b..o..r..i..n..g.. I will try to read all the thread tomorrow but its late here and my brain is dead I have gained 10kg since being gluten-free and apart from feeling good the first month - have not felt... -

ARCHIVED Let's Play "find The Cause"
georgie replied to skinnyasparagus's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have just had a huge reaction to Fructose after being gluten-free for 2 years. Now I am wondering if this is why I have had lingering fatigue problems despite being gluten-free, DF, SF etc. Check your labels. Lots of Fructose is disguised these days - fruit yoghurt for eg may have a heap of fructose added as well but not listed except as 'natural flavour... -
ARCHIVED Questions About Fructose Malabsorption
georgie replied to Blondie's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I am curious about this myself. I had a massive collapse / pain/ D etc and all I could trace it to was a gluten-free soup mix I had that day. When I read the ingredients it had Fructose listed as third ingredient. As the reaction was so severe - I now wonder if I am making myself slightly ill each day by having small amounts of Fructose. I know I react... -
ARCHIVED Blood Retesting For Hashimoto's
georgie replied to Di-gfree's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Well....it sound like a raise is needed to me. 120mg is a fairly average dose ( maybe higher) and if you do the sums you will see it will take forever to get there if you only raise by 15mg every 6 weeks. Read sttm again but I think they suggest a faster increase than that - based on how Armour used to be used when it was the only medicine for HypoThyroid... -
ARCHIVED Blood Retesting For Hashimoto's
georgie replied to Di-gfree's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I would be asking for a check on Antibodies too - and making sure the T4 test is Free T4. Does the CBC include a B12 and Iron test ? 30mg of thyroid is a very small amount. How do you feel ? If you still feel Hypo then you will probably need more. An average dose is 120mg or more. If you increase before your blood work make sure you tell the Dr - so... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Restaurants In South Australia?
georgie replied to Krystens mummy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I joined the SA Society with a dx of Gluten Intolerance and a letter from my GP. They accept membership from dx Coeliacs, DH, and GI people. Once a member they have a shop where you get discounted food and grocery lines. I have found Najjars , Nth Adelaide, and Parade Thai, Norwood to be gluten-free safe. DJ Foodhall have pie parcels and they can heat... -
ARCHIVED Hypothyroidism Test Results
georgie replied to Di-gfree's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Have you checked your Pituitary ? High Prolactin is more a Pituitary problem I thought. www.pituitary.org Or go direct to this link. Open Original Shared Link I think some more blood tests may be in order and before July 1 if you can. What happens if the pituitary produces either too much or too little of these hormones? An imbalance occurs,... -
ARCHIVED Hypothyroidism Test Results
georgie replied to Di-gfree's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Di_gfree, I can say you have Hashimotos Thyroid - which is an autoimmune attack on your thyroid. Autoimmune conditions are linked so its not surprising you have this form of low thyroid - as you have Celiac as well. I have a link here to STTM's second page where she talks of Hashimotos. I have found it one of the best ways to describe what is happening... -
ARCHIVED Cross-contamination At The Coffee Machine?
georgie replied to parla's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would definately try running hot water through first. But I would also be concerned about how the powders fit into the machine and if chocolate powder gets carried into the coffee etc. Our machine was old but it was a standing joke that the tea had coffee in it, and the chocolate had tea etc.... Try a week without and see if you improve. -
ARCHIVED Glutened - Boxed Wine?
georgie replied to DownWithGluten's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What about the glass ? I have been glutened 2x now and about all I can trace it to - is a glass. One was a wine glass from a commercial dishwasher ( wiped with a tea towel ?? ) and the second was this week ( see post I did here ) with a glass of water. I may be wrong ...but that is my hunch with what happened to me. Perhaps your friends house had tea towels... -
Well its definately a severe Glutening. My tum is in spasm... Hadn't thought of wash cloth .... I suspect the glass was cced - just have a feeling... Gosh - is life never safe ?
-
Is it possible to be glutened at someone else's house if the ONLY thing you had was a packet of gluten-free crisps and a glass of bottled water ? She got the glass off the sink for me - I assumed it had been washed.... Could that cause a glutening - washed or unwashed ?

ARCHIVED Hypoglycemia Or Type 1 Diabetes
georgie replied to jhow32000's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have had hypoglycemia all my adult life and all my diabetes tests were normal - everyone puzzled. Then I nearly went into a coma with a normal diabetes 2 hour glucose tolerance test - and I insisted I be referred to a Specialist. He did a 5 hour GTT with glucose AND insulin measured every hour and it showed I was Reactive Hypoglycemic. I eat food - my blood... -
ARCHIVED Australian Gluten Free Restaurants
georgie replied to MDRB's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I know - it makes me mad too. And the dairy milk that has wheat additives to make it froth better... And what happens if you have a dairy latte after a soy milk has been frothed. Is there a cc issue if they don't clean the steam jet ? And then there are all the places selling 'gluten light' cakes in their display cabinets .... They must buy them commercially... -
ARCHIVED Reading Labels In England
georgie replied to frec's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
How confusing ! So if rice cake #1 is made from 100% rice it cannot be labelled as gluten-free but rice cake #2 which is made from rice and wheat and had the wheat replaced by Codex standard gluten-free wheat .... can be labelled as gluten-free ? How strange ! I won't even begin to think about glucose syrup Here is Australia the opposite is... -
ARCHIVED Australian Gluten Free Restaurants
georgie replied to MDRB's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
This happened to me at an Italian eating place. The waiter was new and had to ask if they did gluten-free pasta - and then they said they did so I ordered it. 2 hours later I nearly fell asleep at the wheel and drove the car off the road. I am not sure if the waiter forgot to write gluten-free on my order ,as we had got chatting inbetween him writing it... -
ARCHIVED Muffins Mix Making Me Sick
georgie replied to MDRB's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Its hard to say without seeing the packet but I would be thinking glucose syrups, frucose, or Maltitol all which have reacted with me. Open Original Shared Link. And then there is the dairy etc if you are sensitive to that. Try another brand perhaps and see if they are better . -
ARCHIVED Reading Labels In England
georgie replied to frec's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
So if I am reading this correctly - you need to read the labels and make sure it says gluten-free and wheat free ? -
ARCHIVED Muffins Mix Making Me Sick
georgie replied to MDRB's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Can you post the ingredients ? -
I can chip in here - I have just had to go onto Asthma puffers in my 40s. I never had asthma as a child although used to wheeze a bit with cats hair if exposed to it. Now - twice in my 40s have had a virus that has left me with this 'wheeze'. Dr checked - said my lungs were too quiet - and put me on a steroid puffer and a preventer. I asked for the brand...

ARCHIVED Degenerative Disc Disease
georgie replied to newceliac's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have this too and found Prolotherapy cured me. Its really great if you find a good Dr to do it. I was thinking of back surgery before this - so am glad I found an alternative. -
Reading this again I see your Sodium, testosterone and sex hormones are low. I would be rushing to Dr and asking for Pituitary testing. Have you ever had a head injury/whiplash/ fall ? www.pituitary.org has info on the 12 or so hormones that are affected by low pituitary and also has links on how to find a good Dr. You need a Dr that is exp in HypoPituitary...

ARCHIVED Is My Doctor Right? Diarrhoea?
georgie replied to wilem008's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, I am also from Australia and was diagnosed after at least 25 years of 'IBS'. I also have Hashimotos Thyroid and it was that dx that led me to a new GP ( 2 GPs failed) and she was the one that tested me for Coeliac and low B12. My Coeliac blood test was negative but she insisted I trial the gluten-free diet and I reacted immensely and have been gluten... -
ARCHIVED Low Thyroid And Testosterone
georgie replied to scottyfeelsick's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Just checking - did the MRI have contrast and was it ordered as a Pituitary MRI ? It is possible to also just have a non functional Pituitary ( no tumour ). The treatment is to replace all missing hormones. It sounds like your Endo is still suspecting this. Keep an eye on all the other hormones as sometimes they fail one by one over a period of years...
