  1. Has your Dr tested for Pituitary problems ? Low thyroid and testosterone are there - how are the levels of DHEA, Cortisol, LH, FSH, Growth Hormone ? Not wishing to alarm but 1 in 5 people have a Pituitary problem and most don't even know it. Some of the symptoms of a Pit Tumour are the failure of the various hormones. Has a Pituitary MRI been done WITH...
  2. Can I suggest you have your Thyroid function tested as well ? The autoimmune type of low Thyroid - Hashimotos - often occurs after having a baby. You need Thyroid Antibodies tested - as well as TSH, FREE T4, and FREE T3. Hair loss etc can occur with low thyroid function.
  3. Yes - they could be associated. Both Celiac and Primary Addisons are autoimmune diseases. Once you have one autoimmune disease you are at risk of having others. Its always a good idea to check for sodium/ potassium imbalance ( warning sign for AD), and low BP. Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Has the Endo discussed emergency home injection kits for...
  4. I would definately get someone to drive you to this Test and collect you after. I didn't - and was told off by the staff. I made it home - but it was a struggle to drive. Also have any meds you take with you, and some comfort food as well. Try to get there early and relax, and I would make sure it is by the IV method - after what they told me. They even...
  5. Yes - I have used both Armour and a combination of T4/T3. They felt about the same to me - and is a bit easier to alter the dose with the T4 and T3 tablets. Some people find once they are optimised with Armour that they need to add a small amount of T4 to the dose anyway. Armour is almost correct for our bodies but the ratio is slightly low in T4 for us...
  6. People with Pernicious Anemia have a much higher risk factor for stomach cancer. Its an autoimmune disease and associated with Celiac and other autoimmune diseases. Perhaps your grandma had that as well ?
  7. Glad you have found a nice Endo. I had Thyroid nodules and they shrank away to nothing after I started Armour. Hope you have noticed yours at this same stage too and get good treatment.
  8. I had a bit of a relapse after my last message and am now being tested for myasthenia gravis as well. My auntie had it - and it can be genetic as its an autoimmune disease. My research shows the blood test at best is 80% accurate and at worst 50% accurate - so even if you test negative to the blood test and keep having the symptoms - you need to see a Neurologist...
  9. Nattokinase is a natural soy remedy that some people claim works to dissolve micro clots before they turn into big ones. Its not FDA approved as Natto is a natural food in Japan ( been used for 1000 years ). It doesn't thin the blood like warfarin so I have read of some people taking both - warfarin and Nattokinase. If you use it - make sure you get the...
  10. Yes - Birth Control Pills could do that to you if you have a blood clotting disorder like Factor V Leiden ( FVL) or APS. Do you smoke ? STOP ! You need to run to a Dr fast and be tested to see if you carry the gene. Aspirin doesn't work for FVL and venous clots. Good sites www.fvleiden.org Open Original Shared Link My calf used to ache a lot for...
  11. Excellent info Marley. Thankyou. I second this and also draw awareness to PolyEndocrine Syndrome - which can also be associated to people having multiple thyroid and adrenal problems. Open Original Shared Link This is very much what I am being referred to a consultant now about - and its a very complicated web. And also wish to draw attention to the fact...
  12. Petemoss - see a Optician and a Dr. There are many conditions affecting the eye - glaucoma, macular degeneration,Pituitary Tumours and Diabetes are some I know of - and they have similar symptoms to as you describe. Time is of the essence as early treatment can help stall these conditions and prevent total blindness. Left too late the damage is irreversable...
  13. If you are looking for a good book to buy - how about Dr Hertoghe's "The Hormone Handbook". Its a text book written for Drs - so is about $400. There is a cheaper book coming out soon written for patients ( the Drs book has over 300 pages of references) without all the references. Dr Hertoghe is a Belgian Endo from a long family of Endos. He wished...
  14. Everybody reacts differently to cortisone and where some may take a huge dose and not develop total adrenal failure - another may. I have known of some that completely switched off their own adrenals after a few weeks of 30mg HC.... Osteoporous is a risk for being Celiac - being on HC as well may double that risk ( or more) I can only suggest you research...
  15. Sorry that you seem to not wish to understand. I have many other links as well - yahoo Addisons groups etc - but did not wish to post them all. There is no dispute - I am merely saying that people with Addisons and total failure of the adrenal glands take 20mg of HC - so why on earth would a person with normal ( or fatigued ?) adrenals wish to take the same...
  16. This has been happening to me too. I saw a new Endo last week and within 5 mins he had a name ..... Not a nice name BTW ..... and I have since freaked - as my auntie had this disease - its autoimmune and genetic ( she also had thyroid and B12 issues like me - don't know about Celiac ) Myasthenia Gravis. Symptoms include drooping eyelids that get worse...
  17. Whoa !!! Sorry to disappoint folks but 20mg hydrocortisone is a total replacement dose for most people with Addisons Disease. TOTAL replacement. So .... you must understand that you are TOTALLY replacing your own normal ( or fatigued ???) adrenal function. Google Addisons Disease ....... and all the warnings apply to you then .... I totally understand...
  18. This could be due to what is defined as 'subclinical'. Some Blood tests are not accurate for adrenal problems and some Drs won't refer you for further more advanced and accurate adrenal testing until a problem shows on the basic tests .....so ....you can waste years waiting to get an answer. And autoimmune Addisons can be slowly progressive or happen in...
  19. I was able to reduce my Thyroid meds a little. I still need them - but not such a high dose as before.
  20. Look up PolyGlandular Autoimmune Syndrome Type 2. Its a rare conditon but common if that makes sense Open Original Shared Link Also be aware that adrenal antibodies can disappear and be absent, if the disease has gone undiagnosed for a long time.
  21. Another link I have just found. Open Original Shared Link
  22. I haven't backpacked since being dx with Celiac but thought I would chip in and say that Australia is fairly Celiac aware these days. Most backpackers are in big cities, and near grocery stores and shopping malls - where gluten-free food, fruit and veges can be found. The ones in Adelaide are near Central Market where there are asian , italian and indian...
  23. OMG - I was tested 18 months ago and came back as a high negative result. Dr said I was only Gluten Intolerant and I did the gluten-free diet and know I can never eat Gluten again. Small trace amounts gluten me terribly. But I have never had a 'scope or biopsy. So now .... I will never know - will I ? Does this mean I was probably Celiac all along and my...
  24. Any signs of giddiness when this happens ? How is your blood pressure .... low ? Do you get giddy when standing up suddenly or hate bright light , and shopping mall noise ? I get nausea - usually when my cortisol is low after extra activity. I have adrenal insufficiency. Might pay to google and check that out if you answered yes to any of the above.
  25. Where I live we don't have grass or grass hay ...... The choice is wheat, barley, oats or lucerne if you buy it from across the country ..... At the moment the wheat hay I am using is very powdery as the mice have eaten bits of it. ...Lots of straw on the ground that I walk through 2x a day ..... When I throw the hay over the fence a huge cloud...
