ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)
georgie replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Can you post a good recipe ? I need to make some pies and don't know where to start. And I am using Eskal crackers at the moment and wonder if a custard slice could be made with them ? -
For Graves ? Have you got your original blood test results that confirm that you have Graves. I know this sounds bizarre but I have heard of so many that get misdx , and have RAI unnecessarily. I just want to make sure you are aware of the misdx that happen. Have you given any thought or researched what you will do after RAI ? Will you take a complete...

Not here in Australia !!! I had to jump up and down and make a fuss BIG TIME to get them tested.

mamaw, What do you take for your Thyroid ?

Phew - at least the Field of Vision test was OK ( hubbie said its a horrible test ) so lets hope the MRI is too - sounding more hopeful that it should be. At least you sound as though you have good care now and a management plan.

I posted this earlier. A book that helped me and is recommended by the Reactive Hypoglycemia list is "The Insulin Resistance Diet" by Dr Hart & Grossman. Good luck with the new diet. I found a good protein breakfast, and a good protein mid morning snack helps a lot. My problem now is dairy free as well as gluten-free. Hope you are not dairy free ... -
I can feel for you on this. My hubbie has just had an MRI for a possible Pituitary Tumour, and the waiting was terrible. There is a Lab in Adelaide BTW that does MRI scans from a GP for LESS than the Medicare rebated other places. Weird ... We thought MRI had to be ordered by a specialist and cost heaps - not so .... I used to get flashing lights with...

Good to hear ! Beware of salad dressing and make sure there are no hidden nasties like sugar .... I am feeling better too after my whole day of better eating. At 3pm I was craving sugar so badly so relented a tiny bit by having a small gluten-free bread roll. But I smothered it in butter and peanut butter and feel lots better with no hunger. I think the... -
I assume you have had an MRI to dx your Pituitary micro-adenoma? The optic nerve can be compromised with Pituitary growths so its important to go back and check this latest problem. How long since your MRI ?

I've started my diet today and am feeling ill and nauseous. Is this normal ? My body is screaming for sugar. And I need to eat protein , a little carb and drink water every hour. Just about to eat a boiled egg and vegemite substitute ! Dally, the numbers you are quoting may not interest some Drs. The high spikes may - but not the 120s. It took me years... -

Whats a sloppy joe mix ? And I think I am casein intolerant which means no cheese burgers ... My fasting Blood Sugars are normal high - I just get a severe reaction. I had minor surgery last year and the only way I could get to the op was to stay in hosp o/night and have a drip put on. Its weird - and would like to know why. Endo did touch on subject... -

Not at all. It looks like perfectly 'normal' Reactive Hypoglycemia to me. As you learn more, you will find keeping a food diary helpful as everyone with RH reacts slightly differently to carbs. You may find - for eg - that a pasta meal with lots of protein works well for you but a meal of pasta without protein sends you off the scale again. Fruit is really... -

I noticed your flavoured water was sweetened with Splenda. Folks with Reactive Hypo tend to react to artificial sweeteners the same way as sugar. It raises your Insulin too much. Like Vincent says - get to a Dr and get tested.Make sure its the 5 hour GTT, with readings of Glucose and Insulin. Reactive Hypo is something that needs careful management. It... -

Wow. Those readings are not good. I second - get to a Dr. Your 1.15 pm test was not a true fasting test to start with. This is a site with HypoGlycemic graphs. Open Original Shared Link -
And when you get all those tests done - GET YOUR PAPERWORK. ! Don't let the Dr say 'normal' without you seeing and walking out of his office with the paperwork. What he calls 'normal' or what that lab calls 'normal' may NOT be 'normal' at all .......

ARCHIVED Low Blood Sugar Levels, Anyone Else Dealing With This

What happens if a person has both ? This is what was confusing my Endo. I barely was able to have the 5 hour GTT done, as I had so many Fasting HypoG symptoms. The nurses called the Hospital Dr and he checked me before they proceeded. Before surgery - I can barely make an overnight fast. Before a 12 hour fasting blood tests - I am very symptomatic. But I... -

I was doing this diet and going great re the RH. Then Celiac was dx, and then dairy free. I used to live on butter & cheese.... Since then ( 2 months ago) I have added more gluten-free cakes I guess. And fruit juices. I am in a spiral now...Now I can't face the fat or protein. My body screams for sugar. Would you believe I have gained 5kg in a month... -

Gosh your numbers were bad. You must have felt terrible. I felt bad enough with mine. What triggered my 5 hour test was doing the 2 hour GTT and collapsing into a near unconscious state at the hour mark. I started vomiting, and the test was stopped ( foolishly they didn't do a blood draw) and I was left alone in a room for 15 mins while they got me a cup... -

I don't know if this helps or not but Orgran have a gluten-free Custard Powder. It could be thickened with guar gum. The flakey pastry would be a challenge but you may find someway to do that ??? -

This is an example. Its my lab report on Glucose only. 0 hour - 5.4 1hour - 6.7 2 hour - 5.9 Normal so far ??? 3 hour - 3.7 4 hour - 3.9 5 hour - 4.6 I have the Insulin measurements somewhere too - but this Glucose illustrates how so many with Reactive HypoGlycemia need to have the 3 or 5 hour GTT. And the nurses were doing a symptom record... -
ARCHIVED Low Blood Sugar Levels, Anyone Else Dealing With This
georgie replied to dally099's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
True. I had another look at the numbers. It would still be worth getting a long GTT of 3 or more hours done though. Its possible that the regular blood draws may paint the picture a bit better. That's why you need the 30 min one and regular 30 minute tests until the 3 hour mark. Its possible that the rise and drop may be happening between the hour test. At... -

Your symptoms sound like me. I was dx as Reactive HypoGlycemic a couple of years ago by a 5 hour GTT with Blood Sugar and Insulin testing at 0 hour, 30 mins, 1 hour, 90 mins, 2 hours , 3 hours, 4 hours , 5 hours. With RH its not always how high the Blood Sugar goes ( or how low) but how FAST it drops. Some say its pre diabetes but some say not. Meanwhile... -
I think what this person meant was that her sister felt better almost straight away on gluten-free. But instead of losing her excess weight she actually ballooned out more. Almost like fluid retention she said. Then after a while - nearly a year - she suddenly started to lose all that puffiness and weight - and now she is Size 8 ! This was her sister...

I heard some encouraging news yesterday. The person I was talking to about my weight gain since being gluten-free - told me her sister was dx with Celiac, gained weight, then about a year later lost that weight relatively easily plus all the other weight she had carried for years , and is now a Size 8 ! Does this happen ? Sort of a healing process ?

ARCHIVED Do You Get Symptoms After Eating Casein?
georgie replied to SUZ42's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I get symptoms after cows milk casein but not after goats milk casein or sheeps milk casein. I am taking things carefully and not overdoing the goats milk cheese - even though I love it - but it does seem to be better for me.
