  1. The USA standard for gluten-free is 20 ppm or less. Many of us need zero Gluten. In Australia our standard is 5 ppm or less and now they are trying to make it 20 ppm like other countries which is horrifing for us that need zero Gluten. I react to 20 ppm Gluten.
  2. It was my mother. The Christmas dinner is at s-i-l's and brothers. Mum runs the brothers and tells everyone what they need to do. I am unsure if the gluten-free food is just an excuse and there is some other reason for this. We can't be bothered to fight. Perhaps s-i-l and brother just don't want us there. But then Mum does go around totally confusing...
  3. My extended family still don't get this gluten-free diet. The latest is that I have been told not to come to Christmas dinner as I have 'that funny diet'. It is really annoying and I feel hurt. My sister in law is one of those who pretends to be gluten-free sometimes but eats regular food as well. So are my cousins. So they think I am being OTT silly about...
  4. Yep, I love Greek yoghurt too. But that is on my ‘non-safe’ list right now. My dietitian says to be aware of 'Inulin' in 'safe' dairy/soy etc products. All the best with tum scan. I understand things can be scary, and I'll be thinking about you online. Go winner!

  5. Great news , Tarni. Sounds like it was a good appt and well worth it. I had a touch of lactose last week with some Greek yoghurt from central market..had a slight reaction. Now I take 1 x lacteeze and then the yoghurt and seem OK with that. I am going for a tum scan next week just in case ( ovarian cancer)...but think I am winning now too.

  6. SW-Adel is fantastic. Steph is friendly and really ascertained and addressed my individual issues and questions. I learnt so much about FODMAP, and Lactose Intolerance. A week later, I am enjoying a healthy and enjoyable diet, and my GI and other symptoms are so much better. The consulting room is well set-up with visual cues etc, and the information sheets are helpful for shopping and meals etc

  7. Zendher bread ...it is to die for. They also do great frozen desserts like tiramisu and lemon tarts... Gluten Free Bakery - pies, sausage rolls, cakes. Schar brand is pretty reliable. Their bread is great, also pasta and biscuits. I like Bi Aglut pasta. It cooks like the real thing. My favourite gnocchi is Rusticella. My fave biscuit is Freelicious...
  8. I react to the hay dust from my horses. It is either wheat or oaten hay. I wear a mask when feeding them but still get symptoms. Good luck!
  9. The Hashimotos Antibodies should decrease and go dormant once you are on the correct Thyroid medications. You know there are several different kinds... well some work better at this than others. The gluten-free diet also helps. But once you are dxed with Hashimotos - then the dx should still be there despite what the next test says.
  10. Exactly my symptoms and also why I think I am Coeliac and not just Gluten Intolerant. I know some people that are GI and they sneak bits of Gluten and do not get bowel blockages.... Miralax. Get thee some Miralax and use that. I ended up with Diverticulitis, antibiotics and a water diet for a week ... and that is not fun... and all caused by some mis...
  11. Yep, will keep you posted re SS Adels. My dietitian is also a S (Steph). Know what you mean about knowing earlier (but all of this intolerance/genetic stuff is hard to get ones head around). I guess we're all different, but under the same umbrella? And most gluten/lacose-free products seem to be full of other 'nasties'. Tricky. Potatoes and rice also make me ill at the moment. Livin...

  12. Great news! She is lovely and well worth the wait.Good luck with the SS dietician. I am interested to hear what she is like. I think I have sorted FODMAP out but its not easy. I wish I had known at the start of my FODMAP/ gluten-free diet too. Too much gluten-free starch and then got ill. The SS cookbooks are great too.

  13. Thanks Georgie, have just phoned Dr Arhbal's practice, and they took the time to explain her specialties and approach, and made sure I would call back on Jan 18 to make an appointment. I visit Sue Shepherd’s Adelaide dietitian next week, and eagerly await their tests/guidance. I think that, like you, I am a bit of a complex ‘case’ and will be interested to see what’s...

  14. Hi Tarni,It worked fine !I see the greatest GP in the Universe LOL She was the one to dx GI in me, and has been at my side in the last 4 years during some 'very' complicated associated problems.Dr Fatiha Arhbal,49 Portrush Rd, Payneham. 8362 8444 She is not taking new patients until January again...but worth the wait. She will test for vitamin deficiencies as well. Holistic+ tradit...

  15. Hi Georgie, my first PM, and not sure if I'm doing this right? (newbie to forums). I have responded to your post re: an Adelaide GPs contact details (under my topic: South Aussie seeking... in the outside USA forum). Hope you can get back to me, as I really need a GP 'who gets' intolerances etc. Many thanks, Tarni

  16. Hi Tarni, I am in SA and have a very up to date and knowledgable GP if that is any help. I can PM you her details if you like. She was the one tht dxed GI for me, then did the breath tests and dxed lactose intolerance and FODMAP and now SIBO. I find I can tolerate hard cheeses OK and sheep's milk cheeses. Central Market and Rotolos at Norwood have them...
  17. I am being treated for SIBO . After being gluten-free/DF for 4 years my symptoms were worse than ever. FODMAP was started a couple of months ago but there were still symptoms so yeast free was next. And probiotics and lactose free yoghurt added. One course of antibiotics and now another course of a different type to target the methane producing bugs...
  18. Have you checked for hyperparathyroidism? There is a good site at www.parathyroid.com that explains the symptoms. You especially need ionised calcium checked and PTH and ON THE SAME DAY. After 4 years mine is nearly dxed. I have had terrible bone pain this year.
  19. How did you fix the SIBO ? I now realise that a previous breath test I had - is only 60% accurate!
  20. A Rheumy does not test Thyroid. A good thyroid specialising GP is the best. One of the holistic style GPs that you find from here would be a good place to look. Open Original Shared Link Some people go to Endos but lots find an Endo so old fashioned that it is a useless appt. I saw 4 Endos and they were all terrible and my GP is much better. You need...
  21. Up Late, When you say your Thyroid is fine - do you have the results ? Do you know what thyroid tests were done? There are several but many Drs only test TSH and FT4. Have you had B12 checked? You may need injections. The B12 injections are the only thing that works for me. Sublinguals do not work. If you have this problem then you will have symptoms...
  22. I don't have any answers either. I was glutened 3 days ago and am seriously considering buyng some pregnancy clothes for when this happens as my stomach swells so much I cannot even fit into my normal clothes. All I can eat is boiled rice , bananas and mashed potato. My cc came from meat bought from a butchers. It had a crumb on it despite me asking to make...
  23. Could your surgery have left you a little Hypo? Hypoparathyroidism is discussed here Open Original Shared Link and can be the result of surgery. What type of calcium do you take ? Some work better than others and some upset the Vit D more than others. Your Endo does not sound helpful at all. I would be searching for another as well! I hope you can find...
  24. Have you had Complete Blood Tests? I notice you have low Vit D. This site is a must read. Open Original Shared Link You need calcium, iodized calcium and parathyroid hormone to be tested and normal on the same day. Anything that looks out of range or slightly odd needs further tests. Thyroid tests - TSH , Free T4, Free T3, Antibodies. Iron ...
  25. I use Movicol/Miralax. It is what my Dr recommended after a near impaction after a barium swallow. I never want to be that near an impaction ever again!! Constipation is my symptom of a glutening so now have a remedy of starting the Movicol as soon as there is a problem. It takes a few days to work. 2 sachets a day ( for several days) is my glutening remedy...
