  1. I just had a thought too - re Adrenals. You don't really need a BP machine for this one. Do you get dizzy or giddy when you suddenly stand up? Do you tend to hate bright sunshine and stay indoors? These are all clues. My serum cortisol test was still in range but my Dr has read and understood Jeffries and knew that the blood test is not always accurate. Saliva...
  2. Shh - don't let the drug companies know Their profits will go down... Many wonder if this is the real reason that Armour fell from favour in the 60s. There is a myth that it was unstable. Most modern Drs have been told that - as part of their Medical training. Its quite bizarre really - as its Synthroid that has had all the recalls and didn't even have...
  3. I composed a long mail and the cookies ate it Go back and get your paperwork. You need to see what your Thyroid result was - as a NUMBER - and if all the Throid tests were done. I was told 30 years ago that I had a borderline Thyroid, and that it didn't matter. I have suffered 30 years of CFS, Fibro and it was all due to this one Dr making a bad dx. Many...

    ARCHIVED Italy

Thats a great link ! I have bookmarked that one - and it seems perfect. We haven't really got to the planning stage of our trip. As a rule we like to travel in the small country areas but if my gluten-free is hard to find - may have to go to more populated areas. Florence is on the List and Tuscany and also Venice. I guess Pompeii. If you have any special...
  5. You may get a pleasant surprise ! I just an excited email the other night from an interstate friend. Her Cholesterol has gone down by 1/3 since starting Armour 6 months ago. 4 of my other friends have also said the same. Mine has come down by a 1/3. Did you know that in the 50s they actually used Armour as a treatment for high Cholesterol? Open Original Shared...
  6. Sorry Rachel if I offended. I was merely saying that I know of many people that get a dx of Graves, have RAI , and years later get their notes and find that they had Hashimoto's. Many Drs have made this mistake and its always important to check. You misunderstand my statement re going slightly hyper with Armour and then reducing to the dose that suits...
  7. Rachel, Did you have Graves Disease or Hashimotos Disease? I know that many Drs get them mixed up. Sometimes they can appear similar. Did you have adrenals tested before starting Armour? Dr Peatsfield advises treating Adrenals first to prevent that pooling of FT3. Ursula, Its not really all that scary to go a bit hyper on Armour. In the old days that...

    ARCHIVED Italy

Are the foods in the supermarkets all labelled with ingredients? What is Italian for Gluten , Wheat Starch, Malt etc. I hope to be making a trip to Italy next year and am quite terrified about being gluten-free!

    ARCHIVED Dairy ?

I have been reading and they say that it can be lactose or casein and lactaid tablets work if its Lactose only? The article said to drink milk and have the tablets but would icecream be the same ? This pain is really scary/ Its 1am here and I can't lie down or sleep. I have been having lots of these small attacks but this is the worst. I guess the Dr was...

    ARCHIVED Dairy ?

What does a dairying feel like ? I had icecream tonight, and have had this incred pain for hours. I can't sleep. It feels like a hot poker iron is in my stomach. I have gas, and nausea. I have had pain before but never this bad. Its scary.
  11. I have been to a couple of proper restaurants after going gluten-free, and can say that a good chef can do a brilliant meal WITHOUT gluten. You just have to ask. And Italian restaurants seem even easier. I think that Celiac is very recognised there, and they know so much more. My worst experience from last week was the trendy cafe where the waitress thought...
  12. Thats great news. Was it nice with the chilli ? I do mail orders with that shop. They have drinking chocolate powder so may carry my own to cafes in the future I am about to go dairy free for a trial and am dreading it - so glad that you thought the choc was OK ( as I see you are dairy free too)
  13. I love risottos as my throat is still constricted by my enlarged Thyroid. Hubbie does them. He uses his own chicken stock, and you simmer the rice in that slowly and keep adding more until its right - so you need to stand over it abit and keep stirring and adding stock. Then you just add meat , veges as you like. I had a lovely roasted pumpkin , green peas...
  14. Yes, its an oily D3 made up by a compounding chemist. Vit D seems to be so important. The Dr is even treating my husbands Type 2 Diabetes ( just dx) with it - and not Diabetes meds. Low levels are also linked to breast & prostate cancers.
  15. My Dr likes mine kept as near to 0 as possible as I have autoimmune Thyroid - Hashimotos- and you need the TSH suppressed to suppress the Antibodies attacking your Thyroid. My TSH at the moment is 0.01. Doesn't your Dr test anything else but TSH ? Thats a bit naughty. Tests for Thyroid should be Free T4, Free T3 ( to check the T level in your blood ) , and...
  16. That is very wrong for a Dr to say that. I had HEAPS of ultrasounds and it missed my extremely severe Endo completely. The Lap op was a breeze- just in overnight as I live so far from the hospital. I had the op for a ovarian cyst. That's when the Endometriosis was found. I now have my hormones balanced as my Thyroid Dr also does hormone balancing. I use a...
  17. It was a trendy cafe. I asked if their risotto was gluten-free and they told me rice had Gluten so I don't have much confidence now in the coffee ! I had my risotto at a proper Italian restuarant just down the road, and ALL their risottos are made fresh and are gluten-free. tip - eat Italian. You are not made to feel a nuisance. The waitress at the door...
  18. I thought of Endometriosis too. Have you had a laparoscopy? Mine was very bad and only discovered during an op.
  19. Peggy, Do they have gluten-free wraps like Freedom make here ? What did your friend eat if she didn't eat dairy? I am about to test dairy intolernace and it maybe a trip overseas as Gluten AND Dairy Intolerant !
  20. If you don't feel well depsite Synthroid - go back. There is another Thyroid med available and many find it works better for them. Armour. I second this, e&j0304,just keep fighting. Your DD is HypoThyroid. If its autoimmune those TSH levels will change all the time. That's how it looks.
  21. I am low in Vit D and high in Calcium. Dr is watching and will supp Vit D and recheck Calcium. Parathyroid was mentioned. It doesn't make sense for me to be low in Vit D here in Australia, but Dr said many people are now. I am using a D3 liquid 1 x month.
  22. I asked my Dr what was the difference between GI and Celiac and she held her hand up and indicated a gap of 1mm! I think I have Celiac but as a Gastro hasn't dx me - I can't officially be called that ! Not here anyway. Our state has a Society you can join but you need a letter from a Gastro Dr before you can. They do not recognise the Gluten Challenge Diet...
  23. Would a sprinkle of cocoa on my coffee have Glutened me ? I can't think of anything else that could have done it. I feel really sick and have had cramping and D for 2 days.
  24. Yes. That's it. Raise when you feel symptoms return. And when you get to 2 or 3 grains - slow down, and by this time you will need adrenals working. I tried Isocort for my adrenal fatigue, then cortisone acetate but hydrocortisone is the best for me. Healthy adrenals produce about 40 - 50 mg a day and I am on about 20mg which felt about right for me and stabilised...
  25. elawrie, I know you feel. I am getting so stressed by this. My Dr is sure I have a problem and wants me to do the diet challenge and I KNOW I will fail it ! I can't imagine a world without cheese. I am Insulin Resistant and cheese has been a great snack for me. We love gourmet French Cheeses - goats milk and sheeps milk cheeses. But ..I have had severe...
