  1. I so miss pies ! Are they available in SA ? Would IGA be able to search Patties name and find them listed ?
  2. I guess there are a few things that could cause those problems but cold hands, hair loss, constipation, lethargy are so typical for Hypo that its hard to look past that especially when you know that TSH is above the new range, and that all the tests have not been done. The rash has me stumped but wonder for Lyme ? It must be terrible for you as a parent to...
  3. With Hashimotos you don't get hypo and hyper at the same time. It sort of cycles a bit. And the hyper isn't as severe as Graves I think. Its just a pleasant era where you don't feel as tired and lose weight and go out to parties My episodes were years apart but looking back can now work out what was happening. At the time I thought it was good to be skinny...
  4. Glad that you had a good one. I have bad memories of my 2. This is my worry for my friends daughter as she is seeing a Naturopath for her excema and food allergies but I wonder why she isn't getting better , and perhaps she needs to see a Doc ? Naturopaths can be good but sometimes you just need a Doc I am lucky that my Dr is both - even if she does keep...
  5. That sounds like mine. The red bumps were small and like red pimples and they didn't ooze. But itched like crazy and perfectly symmetrical. My blood test for Celiac was negative but now I have had that rash I wonder if that make it a positive ? The skin is still thickened there - but the rash has gone after going gluten-free. Can I still get a biopsy ?
  6. Laura, The antibodies that you had were TPO & Tg ?? Check this out but they are Hashimotos Antibodies as far as I know. Graves antibodies are TSI ? You need to go back to your Dr to check all this but I had a Endo nightmare and they kept me sick for an extra 10 years. I would never trust an Endo with my Thyroid again. He was a Prof too. My best Dr is...
  7. I had the sore throat a week and then got some antibiotics. By the end of the 2nd week - the throat was mostly better but had a cough that was worse at night and would 'spasm'. I was trying all the normal OTC meds by this time. Then during that 3rd week I started to choke and spasm and vomit, and that's when w cough was dx. Its quite easy by then to dx it...
  8. Take care Donna. That is how my whooping cough started a month ago. www.whoopingcough.net Stage 2 of W cough starts after 2 weeks but its too late to do much about it by then. I thought I had a normal sore throat / cough until stage 2 - and when I was nearly choking all the time - read up on it. Stay away from babies if you are suspicious for w cough ...
  9. Have you had Antibodies tests before ? Any result ? Its the nature of autoimmune thyroid to fluctuate - so having one lab done every other year may not show what is really happening. You could have labs a week apart and they could vastly different if its autoimmune thyroid. So you could wait a year based on one OKish result before a dx. There are Drs that...
  10.  Shorts and Xmas hats is a good look !! My friend's daughter is suffering so much but they hadn't even thought of Lyme ! But its hardly recognised here in Aust and would be near impossible to get dx. But thinking overnight and her rash looks like DH. Does that often go crazy even if she is gluten-free ? Or can it go crazy with just a little...
  11. Actually this isn't quite right. Hashis swings between hypo and hyper as the autoimmune attacks happen. The swings can be weeks, months or years apart depending on the attacks. Many people have been told they are Graves when they are actually just at a hyper stage of Hashis. Happygirl - you have autoimmune thyroid and need to get those antibodies suppressed...
  12. My TSH, Free T4, and Free T3 always came back as normal too. Or at least TSH did as thats all they ever did until I asked for Frees to be tested too. But on closer look my FreeT4 was 1 point away from low normal. I think with Hashis - you don't really dose to TSH again if you use Armour. You just keep an eye on Frees - and dose to symptoms. My Dr keeps testing...
  13. Actually - that is exactly how Hashimotos Thyroid works. As the antibodies attack they can cause hypo or hyper as the thyroid struggles to cope. These attacks can be weeks, months , years apart. Eventually the damage is so severe that the function becomes low. If you treat Hashis early - the damage may not be as severe. Its important to know this - as many...
  14. You have Thyroid Antibodies which means you have autoimmune low Thyroid. Your thyroid is under attack from these antibodies and will eventually get damaged and lose function. I am not sure which autoimmune thyroid it is. My TPO was 35 and my thyroid function was very severe and low so you don't always need a # in the 1000s to be ill. I have Hashimotos Thyroid...
  15. Just a quick hello ! Mango - did you like Aust ? Anyone think I am onto something here ? - my friends 18yo daughter has mult food allergies, excema, and CFS.All still out of control after 2 years of a naturopath. Could that be Lyme ? They lived in Chicago for a while. And now live in Sydney which has Lyme. My DH who I wondered re Lyme - now is...
  16. I did but mine seemed just a small area compared to the pics I saw where people were covered all over. Can you just have a small area of DH ? Today my friends daughter came to visit. Multiple food allergies. But one thing that is annoying her is the huge 'excema'. Can you still have DH even if you are gluten-free ?
  17. One way to find a Dr that understands Thyroid is to ask a compounding chemist in your area which Drs use Armour. This is how I found my Dr. They seem to know Drs that are working well in that area. Open Original Shared Link And I think the Broda Barnes Comp - has a list on its web site too of Drs that are using their methods. Open Original...
  18. I truly hope this can help your DD. The poor thing - so young. I can understand your shock but your story is repeated 1000s of times and its really sad. I simply can't believe that they didn't do all the Thyroid tests. The STTM site may be able to help with you finding a decent Dr. They are really helpful on so many things. I could ask for you or it may be...
  19. Does that mean more adrenal than thyroid ? Have you tried asking the STTM forums ? They have an adrenal section that helped me a bit. Good luck with your surgery! I am happy to try and help a bit. Would hate to stand by and say nothing when I can see so many are not being tested or are being treated like I was. 30 years of CFS when all I needed was...
  20. They showed up when I had the ultrasound. I couldn't feel them , although I had a Goitre and that felt like a lump in my throat. Absolutely. My Dr treats TSH >2 as HypoThyroid. And you haven't even had Freet4, Free T3 and Antibodies tested. Based on your symptoms and TSH so far I would say that you need to check this out. The yahoo list I am on has...
  21. I was made to feel a hypochondriac 30 years ago and that's why I gave up. My Dr just wouldn't treat my borderline Thyroid and refused to say it was a problem. I now curse myself for not being more couragous to ask more questions and demand 2nd opinions. I now realise that the borders have been changed for TSH many times in last 30 years so probably my borderline...
  22. There was no 'trial' at all. Basically - I had severe swallowing problems this year. Went to my reg GP and she said Goitre wasn't too bad, and did a TSH test, and ordered some stomach tests for reflux (!). About this time I found stopthethyroidmadness. I then went back and demanded ALL the thyroid tests. She got angry but did it. I thought she did it. When...
  23. Is that basal temp or anytime through the day temp ? Its a bit low. May still be worth checking. It should be 98.6 during the day. Make sure they do all the thyroid tests. And get your results as paperwork so you can 2x check !
  24. Those temps are not good. They warrant some further testing. Hopefully you can convince your Dr on this Is this the site for temps that you were looking for ? www.drrind.com Basal temp = thyroid. take that each day and graph it. Take 3 x temps through the day. Get an ave from those 3 figures and graph that one reading. Graph has 2 lines...
  25. Sometimes. I had extreme thyroid symptoms this year and all tests were normal until they did an Antibodies test. That showed a borderline reading of 35 which didn't relate at all to my extreme symptoms. And 10% of people never show ANY antibodies when they have Hashimotos ! How are your temps ? They are often a good way to track thyroid and adrenals. www...
