ARCHIVED Severe Muscle Weakness. Unknown Cause.
georgie replied to mark6556's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Steroids also help MG. Seronegative MG is just that - all tests negative. It is 'very' frustrating. People can take years and years to find a Dr that listens. Can you get a trial of Mestinon ? That may help. Have you had any tests for Congentital Myasthenia Syndrome ? CMS. The genetic tests are coming all the time. DOK7 is one of the latest. If your breathing... -
ARCHIVED For Those With Hypothyroidism
georgie replied to kimis's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Erfa Thyroid from Canada is very good. It is almost exactly the same as the 'old' formula Armour ( before they changed the formula). It can also be used sublingually which is great for anyone with absorption problems. Mary shomon had a page on how to get the Dr to write the generic script. -
Go easy with the chick peas... Try hard cheeses first and see how you go. Once the onion , fruit and sorbitols were removed I found the casein was 'not' the problem. Berries are fine. Fruit is OK if you share it with glucose. I try to have less sugar these days so avoid the fruit/glucose idea. I do like FODMAP though! The Sue Shepherd books are really...

ARCHIVED For Those With Hypothyroidism
georgie replied to kimis's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Perhaps you have Type 2 HypoThyroidism. The thyroid hormone levels are there but your cells are resistant to them and cannot absorb them. Like Type 2 diabetes that cannot use insulin effectively. Dr Starr has a good book. Open Original Shared Link Have you had Thyroid antibodies tested to see if you have autoimmune thyroidism? A/i thyroid can... -
FODMAP is great. I am dxed Gluten Intolerant probaly Coeliac. Then Dr thought Dairy was a problem so I went DF for a year or two. But every now and then I would get worse. I finally had lactose tests and fructose tests and found I was lactose and fructose intolerant. Then Dr suggested I am FODMAP and I knew as soon as I read it - that it was me. Onions...

ARCHIVED Corneal Damage From Contact Lenses & Solutions
georgie replied to emsimm's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
What type of lens do you use? I wear gas permeable rigid ones. I would "never" wear extended lens and sleep with them. It is no effort at all to remove them before sleep. I have been wearing contact lens for 40 years now. The originals were not gas permeable but rigid. I tried soft lens about 30 years ago and did not get on well with them. Have had gas... -
ARCHIVED Flourless Chocolate Torte
georgie replied to Tina B's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
It sounds great and is very suitable for lactose intolerants. Butter and cream have virtually no lactose and pure chocolate should have none either. Saving this recipe now! -
ARCHIVED Severe Muscle Weakness. Unknown Cause.
georgie replied to mark6556's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Myasthenia Gravis can be extremely difficult to diagnose if you are seronegative ( all tests show negative). Some people never get the dx. Often the Dr never sees you at your worst. Even after 20 years and 10 different Neurologists and Hospitals some people do not have a clear answer. Genetic testing is moving ahead in leaps and bounds so maybe check into... -

ARCHIVED Need Advice With Thyroid Problems
georgie replied to mygfworld's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Have you thought of using another type of Thyroid medication like Erfa Thyroid ( from Canada) or adding Cytomel to the Synthroid ? Synthroid is T4 only. Cytomel is T3 only Erfa and other Natural Dessicated Thyroid medications ( Armour, Naturethyroid) are T4,T3,T2,T1 When our thyroid work they make T4,T3,T2,T1 Most old fashioned Drs and Endos... -
Gosh - that sounds scary. Glad you are OK. I have had similar happen to me many times and it has got to the stage that if I am driving - no food or drink passes my lips that I have not prepared myself. I also have had near misses. It is amazing the effects gluten has. Truly scary.

ARCHIVED Can Someone Comment On Thyroid Tests?
georgie replied to mushroom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Levothyroxine works well for a lot of people. But there is a certain percentage where it doesn't. We are all different and it can take a while to find the one that works best for you. Some Drs do not try to do this. Many Drs are trained by drug company reps that 'one size fits all'. It is important for people to know that there are choices of thyroid... -
ARCHIVED Can Someone Comment On Thyroid Tests?
georgie replied to mushroom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have used time release T3 but prefer straight Cytomel ( T3). I think anyone with bad gut absorption may not get the best effects from time release formulas. Just my experience and from listening to a few complaints - my guess. You could work around the problem by increasing the dose - which is what we tried to do but some days ( after dairy for instance... -
ARCHIVED Thyroid Surgery Possible Cancer
georgie replied to mygfworld's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My Goitre and nodules disappeared after using Armour thyroid medication ( old formula)and avoided surgery. Scan before and after showed they had disappeared. I now take T4/T3 synthetic combined treatment. Even now if I do not have enough T3 ( Cytomel) I can feel the thyroid swelling again. My TSH stays at 0.01 for safety. -
ARCHIVED Can Someone Comment On Thyroid Tests?
georgie replied to mushroom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Change Drs. Read some Mary Shomon info. Cytomel (T3)needed ! A normal TSH should be about 1, and many people still feel hypo even at that and need it lower. I am a poor convertor and T4 resistant and take 50mcg T4 and 40mcg T3. As a rough guide - 100mcg T4 = 20mcg T3. Your friend needs T3 or she risks thyroid complications like heart damage. Our... -
ARCHIVED Coffee? Are You Kidding Me?
georgie replied to conniebky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was told some cheaper coffees have a wheat flour dusting to help the roast. You may want to check what brand of coffee it was and stay clear of it. I would also use my own coffee mug / spoon etc as I used to find the cc issues at work were horrendous. I drink bottled water when not at home now. -
ARCHIVED Thyroid And Celiac Disease
georgie replied to twe0708's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Why not take Natural Thyroid like Erfa Thyroid or Nature Throid or Armour? There is a small amount of T3 in each tablet but you can cut the tablets in half and multi dose gradually through the day. T3 is natural to our bodies. Our own thyroid makes T3 and T4 so it is not normal to have a T4 replacement med only. You may have to shop around for a Dr that... -
ARCHIVED I Found Bread! (australia)

There is no Wheat, Soy, Egg, Gluten, Corn, Artificial Colours, Preservatives, Yeast, Salicylates, Amines, Casein, Fructose, Low in Fat and Low in Sugar. The cake mixes and pikelet mixes are great too - there is a CWA style cookbook too where you can make nearly anything by a simple 2 minute mix As soon... -
I have been gluten-free/DF for 3 years and still had ongoing problems but was sort of stable. Then about a month ago I had a severe Glutening ( incorrectly labelled food ) and have had nothing but problems ever since. The bowel became infected and I have had antibiotics for that. Then I started reacting to all fruit and now - the latest - yeast. Yesterday...

ARCHIVED Gluten-Free In Australia Or England!?
georgie replied to sarahd047's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
You would be fine in Australia. Our standard for gluten-free is pretty much better than any other place... 5ppm where in UK it used to be 200ppm and they are slowly converting to 20ppm. I know I react to trace amounts of gluten and 20ppm would be too much for me... and Australia's standard seems much better. This link shows quite a few places in Townsville... -
B12
georgie replied to frustratedandtired's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had low B12 when dxed. After 3 years I still need weekly B12 injections. -
I had a 15 year history of migraines until I went gluten-free and was dxed with adrenal problems. Nowadays - if my cortisone meds are running low I can get a migraine. In fact - that is one of the first signs I get that I need my cortisone replenished. I used to wake up with migraines before this dx... 5am killers ... Cortisol has a day /night rythym and...

ARCHIVED Need Info On T3 For Hypothyroidism
georgie replied to kimis's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes - a total of 40mcg. I started at 10 then 20 then 30 over weeks ... 40 seems to be the best. I have a great thyroid Dr who I can discuss all this with. I take one in the morning and can feel when it is time for the next - usually midday or early afternoon. I haven't lost 'much' weight but just look different. Not as puffy / eyes bright/ hair glossy etc... -
ARCHIVED Today I Started Erfa Thyroid
georgie replied to kimis's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It can take a while to build up the levels with Natural. You have to start low and build up gradually - every few weeks. The conversion charts from Synthroid to Natural and not that accurate. Are you splitting the dose ?
