  2. I have a very old Pampered Chef large square pizza stone that I used to make cookies several years before I found out I was gluten intolerant. I know I will hate to hear the answer but.......here it goes. Do I have to replace it or is there a way to clean it off? I wasn't sure if the wheat flour from the cookie dough will soak into it or not. I love that stone but haven't used it since I went gluten free.
  3. Thank you for giving me more ideas. I tried the flourless cake and frosted it with chocolate whipped cream. Then I cut strawberries into heart shapes for the top. Man was that good. A big hit with my low carb man. I'm going to try the other two this weekend.
  4. I am stuck. My husband has to do the low carb, sugar free diet because of diabetes in is family and he gains weight just by looking at food. And I have to do gluten free in order to keep my weight on and my skin clear from the horrible rash from gluten. Any ideas for a valentines day desert? Especially one that is chocolate. I am a scratch baker and only know of chocolate cheese cake for both of us. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I value this site more than any other on the internet. I know I can trust all of you "kids". Thank you in advance.
  5. I haven't seen any of the other beers mentioned here but everyone is right. To me it tastes like a Fat Tire when I thought I was able to drink anything but preferred a little better quality. It has that micro-brewery taste...a good flavor. I used to make pale ale and a few others. I wonder if they have a gluten-free beer kit to make?
  6. I take one a day with the propriatary blend of 1 billion CFU per capsule the first thing in the morning before I exercise on the bowflex machine (about 20 to 30 minutes before I eat). They tell you to take them with or without food. It depends on how your stomach feels about taking things before you have some food in it. If I've been around to much wheat products or have been contaminated by gluten is when my stomach gets to sensitive to take anything until I can keep food in me.
  7. If you are not allergic to coconut oil it works pretty good. If you can find the food grade type, you can use it for cooking as well as for the body and hair (use sparingly on hair). It does have excellent health benefits. The Walmart near me just started stocking it. If you take vitamin E that will help a little for the dry skin problem.

  9. I would try the combination of rice, potato, tapioca, and maybe a little bean flour. I don't like using alot of bean flour because to me it tastes ....well.....green tasting. The common Bette Hagman flour is a combination of 1-1/2 c rice flour, 1/2 c potato starch flour, 1/4 c tapioca flour. I use this combination when I make my english muffins which I use for hamberger buns also. It is not as dry as the straight rice flour breads that you can make or get at the store. In fact after you make it when it is warm it is sooooooo good. Just like the fresh baked wheat bread I used to be able to eat. If you can eat soy you can sub a little of that into the rice flour. What is left store in the freezer.

Just last week I was checking into probiotics and I read that you needed to take either FOS or inulin with it to make sure the benefitial bacteria's make it to where they need to go because the acids in the gut will kill off alot of them. They say inulin is easier on you than FOS. However if you take too much inulin you will have diarrhea. They also say the only time you will notice any difference (one that you feel) is when you don't feel good and you take them, then you start feeling better. Does that make sense? They work to keep you feeling good so you don't consistantly get yeast infections, for example, especially if you are taking antibiotics. So if you do feel good, you won't feel them working but they are.
  11. Even though I follow alot of the threads on this forum I still call the companies. Kraft was very good to deal with. They told me they do put a allergy alert on the label if something contains gluten, soy, milk, fish, or nuts (I think that about covers it.) They also sent me a bunch of coupons for the things I inquired about. Might have been because I had a list of items. Hershey's is the same way, although they didn't send coupons (darn it). I make alot of phone calls. If they don't have the phone number listed on the label, check the website of the company and they usually will have phone numbers there. I tell them I have a wheat allergy and I buy their product so I need to know if I need to find another product that does not have gluten in it. They become very helpful when you explain why you need it.
  12. Now that is funny...but very true. I use the McCann's steel cut Irish Oatmeal and it said to cook for 30 minutes. The first time I made them for me and my husband. I chewed into them after he had half of his eaten and thought the same as you. When I looked at him he graciously said "I like them a little chewy. This is really good." Next time I made them I had to add more water to cook them longer. The third time I just started with alot of water and simmered them until they were softer and were the right consistancy. Stir very often cuz they can glue themselves to the bottom of a pan in no time.
  13. I don't want to feel that bad again. I have been to two different doctors that told me I have to eat wheat for two weeks so I could be tested. I'm sure they don't believe me. One told me if I couldn't take the pills for IBS I could find a new doctor. The second one gave me gallbladder tests and wanted to put me on antidepressants. Those made me really sick. I'm not a pill taker and have a difficult time with any medication. I have found that Benedryl childrens dye-free Allergy helps if I somehow get a little wheat in my system. Don't believe them when they say it tastes like bubble gum. The rash on my legs started like pimples and progressed to what looked like boils that broke and got infected. My legs looked like raw hamberger. It hurt and itched. The dermatoligist said it looked like frunkles but he had never seen a case that bad. It only took about 24 hours to go from a little red bump to YUCK. He gave me Mupirocin ointment (that stuff really hurt) and Mometasone Furoate cream (this made it feel better). I've had the same rash on my chest, lower arms and underarms as a child and back then they called it "Chicken Skin". Frunkles is caused by using a dirty razor. The thing is, I don't shave my chest and I use new razor blades every time I shave. The rash has finally cleared now that I don't eat wheat.
  14. I have never been tested for gluten intolerance but have done major research about it. My husband suggested going gluten free as a last resort after I had been on thyroid tablets from age 14 thru 35. I still had major diarrhea and went thru the diagnosis of IBS. Not to sound bad but I could see exactly what I ate. The pills made me sick and didn't help. I took allergy shots and had inhailers for three years with minimum help. Skin rashes all of my life on my lower legs, chest and underarms. The dermatoligist said it was the worst rash he had seen and took pictures of it. The salve he gave me helped with the itching. I was tested for gallbladder problems,too. No one ever suggested a wheat allergy. I have been on a gluten free diet for over a year now but I can tell as soon as I eat wheat. My weight is now up to 95 pounds. My family is Italian so we did eat alot of bread and spaghetti growing up. Even my dad had an allergy that caused swelling internally as well as externally that the doctors couldn't identify. He prematurely died of cancer. My question is what should I do? Is it true I would have to eat wheat for a few weeks to get any tests done?
  15. My hubby does the low carb so I also can not have a completely gluten free house. It was a problem at first. I spent years of research trying to figure out how I kept getting gluten into my system when I knew exactly what I was eating (fresh veggies, chicken, rice, potatoes -nothing I didn't prepare myself). Kind of like the caveman diet. I finally got my own dishes, pans, storage bowls, silverware etc. and low and behold...the problems started to ease. I do not use any plastic or teflon pans that have ever even remotely been around gluten. When I heated anything up in either of these items it seamed that the effects were deadly(bathroom all day, rashes, poor appetite). I think plastic soaks up the gluten and when reheated it releases into the food causing ickyness. Ya... I know that sounds stupid but since I did this change three weeks ago I stated feeling alot better. I had to do something to quit loosing weight. (I was at 90 lbs then and have just about gotten up to my drivers license weight of 100 lbs) By the way, now that my hubby decided to try my caveman diet, he has lost well over 100 lbs, doesn't snore anymore, and now has normal blood sugar. Diabetes runs in his family.
