    I had some coffee (2 cups) this am and for lunch, I took my Mother who is not well, can hardly get around and my neice who was down from Portland, Or. She is flying back tonight at 8PM. We went to a Mexican Restaurant called "El Torrito " and there is only one menu item that is wheat and gluten free. I asked a waitress if there were any gluten free items, and she said one of her co-workers mom is also a celiac and eats the same thing and never a problem. Well she was right I did not have a problem with anything. Enchiladas Rancheros , that is all I have eaten today. may a cup of coffee in a bit. and a baked potatoe, for dinner <_<

    Its been awhile since I have on. Well I have gained about 30 lbs since being Dx in Aug, 2006. I used to be in size 0 to 3 and now I hate what i look like. I weigh approx. 140 and would like to lose about 10 or 15 lbs. People say I look good and healthy, which I like but i don't like the flab. Wow I never ever had flab before, and I'm not liking it. So can I join all of you ? :rolleyes:

    I have been gluten free since Aug 2006, but I wonder sometimes when my stomach sticks out (bloated) slight Big D you know just a little loose. Maybe there is something I am missing. Some days are great then I some are bad. Can we really ever be healed ? I personally don't think so, but maybe. My body always feels bad somewhere. I have 4 surgeries on my right shoulder (may 2007) this year was the last and I still can't raise my arm. So this also makes me feel we never can heal. Just wanted to ad my 2 cents worth. :rolleyes:

    Well I will get right to the point. Here is the question TROPICANA ORANGE JUICE VIT -D AND CALICIUM ADDED!!

    Well I just had some with my dinner which I know was ok nalleys gluten free chili and orida crispy frenc fries.

    I pretty sure that the OJ is what made me sick as :( you know what. What is it with citric acid I think I read somewhere that it is not good for celiacs I really don't know or remember.

    Anyone out there with an answer ? I haven't had this OJ in awhile and i really think it caused it. :angry:

    So bloated I feel 7 months pregnant and I know thats not the case LOL :rolleyes:

    Help please

    I always have a very strong intestinal reaction to glutening but I have started to notice that I am in a total haze after eating gluten. I have also noticed that I am having problems with my hands. I was glutened yesterday and in addition to having an awful stomach ache, I feel very foggy and I keep dropping things. It was very difficult trying to write a check this morning. Is this my imagination? Does this happen to people?

    hI ANGEL 42 You are not alone. I get that way also. I have been gluten free since Aug. I have had a few glutenings and feel that way. I feel as if in a fog, at times anyway even dropping things. It gets better with time I hope. :rolleyes:

    Thank you for the time you spent with me discussing the reaction experience after consuming Amys Kitchen

    The bottom line was that they had there product tested and they say there was NO DETECTABLE LEVEL OF GLUTEN in the product selected for testing.

    While we did not find gluten in the product, will continue to monitor this product and have set up an ALERT PROCESS THROUGH THE CONSUMER SERVICES DATABASE SO THAT THEY CAN RESPOND QUICKLY IF THEY GET A RELATED CALL FROM ANOTHER CONSUMER.

    They say Amy's kitchen is dedicated to the manufacture of products that are delicious, nutriousand safe to consume. They go on to say that they hope I will continue to purchase Amy's Kitchen products in the future. They sent me two free coupons for Amy's Products.

    They finish by saying that,

    As you know Amy's Kitchen is a family business. We truly appreciate hearing from our customers especially when there might be problems. Consumer comments prompt us to check our systems to make sure proceders are being followed and to take corrective action if anything is amiss. Again thanks for your concern and tim.

    The lower limit of detection for the R-Biopharm RIDASCREEN Fast Gladin is 10 parts per million (ppm) gluten. Amounts below this level cannot be reliably detected in this assay. The R-Biopharm RIDASCREEN FAST Gliadin is equally cross reactive with gliadin/ gluten for wheat, ryem and barley. One ppm is equal to one milligram of gluten per lilogram of sample product

    They go on to say IMPORTANT NOTICE:. If the possible source of allgeren contamination in your samples is from fermaentation, or consists of fermented or hydrolyzed materials, current methods cannot measures allergen levels appropriatelyinthese cases. This can result in a severe underestimate of the allergen content of your samples.

    In these special cases, a BLD reasing may be indicated but there still could be enough allergenic residues left over to be capable of causing and allergic reaction.

    NO responsability at all i would assume, on Amy's Kitchens part. :angry:

  7. I also love bananas with a little lactose free milk and a little sugar. yummy or just a plain banana.

    I like apples only peeled ones. strawberrys with whip cream and maybe cheesecake from Philadelpia. with whip cream nightly for some reason ohhhh yaaaa :lol:


  8. Ok I haven't had a cookie since Aug 2, 2006. Last night I baked pamela's choc chunk and there were so good I had my neighbor even try one and they said they were even better than regular cookies.

    Well I made myself some and told my son he could try them(he's 25) then I told him that I made him his own batch of the regular so i could have all of mine to myself. :lol:

    Well he laughed and said ok but I still am going to eat a couple of your because they are way to good and I should share :lol:

    So anyway i thought i would pass that on to all and the newbies don't wait as long as I for great cookies ;)

    I guess crossed eye and lazy eye are different ?

    This is a quick note to say I went to the eye doctor yesterday, and explained that i was born crossed -eyed. That I wore bifocals until I was 10 yrs, then i had surgery on my right etc.

    She listened very carefully, as it was my first time to see her. Well i was very impressed , seeing that i had gone to an opthamolgist just a few days early.

    That dr. told me that i was ok and that I was just getting older and that is why i was focusing and couldn't read small print.

    Well a long story short, this new dr, DR Stout she is great. She did a complete exam including loking for diseases. :lol:

    Well no cataracs, no blk spots or glaucoma etc., but I do have a stigma in my right and I do not see with both eyes at the same time, she said very rare. Also my right cornia (spelled wrong) is in the shape of an oval and my left eye is round. :angry:

    I am both nearsighted and farsighted and my left eye is worse than my right. I will get my new bifocals in about 2 or up to 4 weeks. Yahoo i will be able to read things without a magnafirer ( also spelled wrong ) sorry my eyes are killing me and i am not thinking very well.

    She has all the new technolgies and gadgets in the office i saw pics of the insides of my eyes all good.

    She said that only one eye is reading at any given time and that i use my left eye more or tilt my head back and forth to see which ever works best. but mostly i read with the left one only.

    She said have what is called STRABISMUS I googled it and I learned alot about it. I need to google it again and make sure i read it right, that the eyes are seeing to different images and one eye takes over the other and is the brain that can''t make the eye work correctly, because of the muscles in the eye.

    Any way i thought i would share bacause it really bothers me that there is another thing with me and to see if anybody else has this problem or close ro it.

    I just wanted to tell that i bought the book " gluten free for dummies" and i really like it.

    For you newbies and oldies like me and others it is very informative. Has many different things. I don't usually suggest books but i will this one.

    Lots of recipes and everthing if you dont want to buy go to library, it was only 19.95 which is very cheap to get a lot of good information.

    Lots of good info here too.

    TODAY I ATE AMY'S SHEPPARD PIE, AGAIN I FELT VERY SICK, BLOATED AND DOWN RIGHT NASTY. :o

    I DON'T SEE MYSELF EATING AMYS ANYTIME SOON. ON MONDAY I AM GOING TO CALL THE LINDA DOYAL AND CAROL TAMAGNI AND TELL THEM ABOUT IT AND ALSO THAT I WILL NEVER EAT THERE PRODUCTS AGAIN.

    I AM REALLY UPSET AT MY SELF THAT I EVEN TRIED AMY'S AGAIN. :(

    I THOUGHT I WOULD GIVE THEM A TRY BAD IDEA ON MY PART. MY BAD !!!!! :o

    ANYWAY I THOUGHT YOU ALL SHOULD KNOW, AND THAT I WILL POST THERE LETTER WHEN I RECEIVE IT.

    when I accidently gluten myself I have night sweats or hot flashes in the day, I look 6 months pregnant, and and gassy, constipated. Many different things I just feel lousy for a day or so depends.

    So my point is like everone says if it makes you sick don't eat it.

    i really hope you get the answers you need or want ;)

  13. Hi all well last night I ate MEXICAN TAMALE PIE gluten and dairy free.

    Well the verdict is I did not get sick this time. hoorah !!!

    It wasn't enough food, but I did feel ok after. :lol:

    Thank you for all the responses and as I said please go to amy's kitchen web site and complain !!

    It will help make my (our) point, or maybe they went to this forum and read it for themselves. :lol:

    FDA's Gluten-Free Proposal Will Benefit Millions of Americans

    Under an FDA proposal published yesterday, food companies will have to meet new standards before labeling their products as gluten-free. It also provided a new definition for 'gluten-free' which will give individuals with celiac disease greater confidence that specially labeled foods are in fact, safe for them to eat, according to the American Celiac Disease Alliance (ACDA).

    The Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA) passed by Congress in 2004, requires food manufacturers to clearly state if a product contains any of the eight major food allergens: milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, wheat, and soy. It also required the FDA to develop and implement rules for using the term

    I went to Amy's kitchen and they were very peceptive of the problem.

    I spoke to CAROL TAMAGNI, IN CONSUMER RELATIONS AND LINDA DOYAL the HACCP MAMAGER.

    We went to the conference room and spent 45 minutes talking about things.

    They were very concerned and we spoke about there lines and CC and many other things.

    What they wanted me to do was to come home and get the box and give them the codes off of it so they can do testing on that lot of enchilads.

    They said that there could be CC and that she will look into that but they do wash the lines and have classes there at the company etc.

    I told them about starting a thread last night and they were more than welcome to go to the sit and read what we're all are concerned about.

    They are also in the process of working with the University of Nebraska to have a research place I believe was called FARRP.

    They also spoke of the FDA coming out about what is actually gluten free at the level of the ppm.

    Carol said that she is the one who reads the emails daily and the comments on line. She said anything people send she will read. You can go to AMY'SKITCHEN.COM and go to the contact us.

    I would even mention this board or even mention that I went down there am and spoke with them.

    I told them that people and the united states and canada were upset about there products.

    and how they were not going to eat them anymore because they keep getting sick.

    So they gave me some coupons for free amy's food so I went and bought a Sheppards pie GLUTEN AND DAIRY FREE and I will have that tonight.

    Carol said that a lot of people who have celiacs also have intolerence to milk and that our doctors don't know and they don't tell us we should also go off dairy when first diagnosed, and work it back in to our diet at a later time.

    So as of today I am also going dairy free to see if that helps me. Since the only other allergen in the enchiladas was milk ? Who knows maybe I am allergic to dairy.

    All and all they said they would be sending me a letter in the mail about what they will be and what they are doing about this.

    As soon as I get the letter I will scan it in and post it here for all to see.

    I just called Linda and asked her if they used dedicated lines and she said that the Black Beans enchilada's and the Cheese enchilada's are made in another location in the building where nothing else but those to items are processed. She said how do you define a dedicated line, I said nothing but gluten free items on that line. So I can't wait to see the letter and share it with all of you.

    So start writting and complaining to the company and together we can get something done.

    My son just came in the room and said that they also have and office closer to us so I will go there next. <_<
