  1. Hi Megz,

Sorry to hear you feel that way..but I am also glad because I am going thru the exact same thing. Same symptoms too.

I was diagnosed at the end of Nov. 2006 and I am still not feeling all that better. One thing I would like to let you know is that I did get a reaction from Swiss Chalet's chicken. I'm sorry to dissapoint you. I also read your other post and thank you for contacting Tim Horton's you made my day. lol

Hope you feel better soon and keep me posted if you find any good stores/doctors/books in the area!

    Melanie

  2. Hi Everyone,

This past week I have had pain in my neck, mostly inside it feels like I have a lump when I swallow and sometimes the bottom of my neck is very painful. I cant determine if this is problems with my thyroid because lot of the symptoms are the same as Celiac. I was just diagnosed in November 06 and still feeling pretty crappy.

Any advise or info from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

  3. Hi I am also from Canada, Smooth Rock Falls, Ontario, but currently living in Kincardine.

I am also still a teenager if you add 16 + 16.

Wouldnt it be great if there was a "Canada Only Site" so we could put all Canadian Information in one central location???

Welcome to the board..its a great place to learn :D

  4. So I was going through all of my non-food products, reading labels, and I decided to check my dishwasher detergent. Listed under ingredients it says thickening agent. Does any one know if it is gluten free or maybe how I can find out. The only website listed is costco.com and I haven't had much luck finding any kind of answer on their website. I guess I can wait 'till tomorrow to try to call them, but now am really nervous about continuing to use it and letting my kids eat off the dishes washed in it. Thanks for any help in advance. :)

    Have you found out??

  5. I'm sure we would benefit from family counseling, but I don't think I care that much. If it was my husband or my child I would certainly try to make things right, but this is an ongoing battle that isn't what I want to focus on right now.

I don't like these visits and I fear that they may become more frequent (but Ursula you are right about me controlling the tickets). When she isn't here it doesn't bother me and I don't think need help dealing with this because I have learned to stand up to her and I realize these are her issues. I went to plenty of personal counseling about this and they said not to rescue her when she plays the victim and I don't give in anymore. It is just a constant battle.

Tarnalberry, I have tried talking to her in clear, reasonable ways. She cries and yells and hangs up on me and then we don't talk for a while. This has probably been going on for 15 years and it is the same thing over and over again. She thinks it is all me and that I am mean to cut her out of my life, even in small ways tjhat normal people don't wouldn't see as things they should even know. One counselor said that she doesn't see a difference between me and her and so she thinks she is entitled to know everything about me and be involved in all those decisions and vice versa.

It is just frustrating because I don't like having bad visits and they do upset me for a while before and afterwards. I don't want to be stressed out when my baby first comes home and we are trying to get to know each other and figure things out. I actually think it would be better if she lived closer and could come over for a few hours and then go home.

Thanks everyone for listening to me.

Hi,my mother is the same as yours except she is addicted to prescription drugs. That's a whole other story.

I am currently reading a book called "Emotional Blackmail". It teaches boundaries for people like that and is helping me. When I was pregnant its like it turned on some switch in my mom. She was so bad it caused lots of stress for my family.

    Hope this helps.

    Melanie

  6. Go to the dinners and bring your own.....people are amazing. More and more are understanding of the Celiac condition, they know someone or are related- you know. I brought a purse with a baggie of turkey and some rolls and pretzels and cookies for dessert, there was nothing on the buffet to eat. I was sitting at a table with a fellow Celiac and I shared my dinner with her. There was a guy who was diabetic and someone else had a lactose intolerance. People are aware , they are not going to have a gluten free buffet but you can enjoy other people's company, I just laugh a lot. The peppermint bark sounds good, I made some last year for Christmas and some gluten-free white chocolate and reg. chocolate covered pretzels. Preparation is the key to a happy holiday. (Must go prepare) :P Brenda

  7. Wow, I get that... I just thought that was normal. I thought everyone was like that. I find it very hard to sleep because of that, even when I'm dead tired. Hmmm... BTW, I was editing my post above while you posted... Let me know what you think, could my doctor be wrong?

Same thing I have 27 out of the 38 but these symptoms are common in a lot of things so I'm not sure what to think.. Exposed but not infected kinda makes me wonder.

What were your numbers for the blood test, mine were over 100, I was just diagnosed 4 weeks ago now and started a gluten-free diet but am still learning alot from this site.

Are you feeling any better? What changes have you made..

    M

  8. I have read contradicting information regarding, Vinegar, Vanilla Extract, Natural Flavours and Food Coloring.

Are any of these safe? After being diagnosed with Celiac I saw a dietician and the only information she could give me was Celiac.com.

Are there any other sites with legit information??

Thanks again and thank god for this site.

    Melanie

P.S. I am from Canada so are products different from country to country?

  9. You mean that other people get this??

    Hooray! I'm not a freak! (Or at least not a lonely freak. . . :P )

Haha, you're not a freak and I don't consider myself one too...but brain chatter sure makes me wonder. I have lots since I started a gluten-free diet about 3 weeks ago...I will definetly try meditation. I had also seen a Naturopath and she gave me some homeopathic remedy that worked for about 3 months...

Has anyone ever told you what cause it?

    Melanie

  10. I have just been diagnosed about 3 weeks ago, and have had about 2 periods a year ever since I began them at 16. I am now 32. I have had 3 successful pregnancies and lost a baby girl at 21 weeks inutero due to Turner Syndrome. ( also linked to Celiac) I am the same wondering if this could have all been reversed.

I never knew when I had conceived because I was never able to determine the dates.

I'm glad I know now..Hopefully I will feel better soon and I hope all of you out there do to!
