Be sure to read my edited post. I left out some obvious starches. I guess I was making myself hungry and got distracted

ARCHIVED What Type Of "milk" To Drink?!
hathor replied to jewi0008's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just stick with the Living Harvest hemp milk. This I really like. I bought a different kind (sorry, I don't remember the name) and it tasted really nasty and completely different. I guess there must be people who like it, but ... my daughter and I couldn't stand the stuff even when we put hot chocolate mix in it I like using hemp milk because of... -
Well, what are you eating now? Tell us that and we can suggest other things ... There is a book entitled "Food Allergy Survival Guide." It has recipes that are free of all common allergens. It is vegan too ... so you would have to go elsewhere for meat recipes. I can't advise about meat. But really, if you look at vegan cookbooks or recipe web sites...

ARCHIVED Dairy Free And Egg Free And Soy Free (except For A Couple)
hathor replied to AndreaB's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Strange thing is that I haven't noticed a problem with yeast in bread, either. I went without, then tried some after a few months ... no difference. So I'm not quite sure what to do. But having yeast in more bulk, as with nutritional yeast, gives me some pause. It is hard to find much on yeast intolerance. I did run across this study: Open Original... -
ARCHIVED Soy Allergy Vs. Soy Intolerance
hathor replied to michelleL's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
How is this legal? The labelling law requires disclosure of soy ingredients. How did you hear or know about the nondisclosed soy oil on food products? -
ARCHIVED Dairy Free And Egg Free And Soy Free (except For A Couple)
hathor replied to AndreaB's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Baker's, brewer's and nutritional yeast are all Saccharomyces cerevisiae, just in different forms. (The nutritional stuff is deactivated). Since I test as intolerant to Sacc. cer., I've been reluctant to use nutritional yeast or buy any product that has it. On another note, I also have been on the lookout for chickpea miso. It is in a number of recipes... -
Oh, another "it is imaginary unless a medical professional agrees you are feeling what you are feeling" article. Words fail me.

ARCHIVED Probiotic
hathor replied to nowheatnomilk's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think many of us take probiotics, or have done so for a period in order to get gut bacteria to where they should be. What brand are you taking? $83 is very expensive. -
ARCHIVED Weight And Waist Loss Going Gluten Free
hathor replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
How do you know you are good with milk & dairy? My primary response to it is bloating and you have that. I've certainly read the comments of many others who react to dairy with bloating. Just saying it might be worthwhile to try going going dairy free and see what happens. Even if you aren't sensitive to casein, many gluten intolerant folks find themselves... -
Ooh, those chocolates look good. I'll have to see if I can find a place locally where I can go and buy a single bar. I really don't think I can trust myself to order chocolate in bulk It is tough to avoid soy. Soybean oil must be particularly cheap or something. Or the protein gets added to an otherwise fine food. This reminds me. I had an...

ARCHIVED Celiac Disease And Italy
hathor replied to bellabrit7's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My understanding is that Italy is about the best place to be if you can't have gluten. All children are tested for celiac, so the level of diagnosis and awareness is high. If you search past threads, you can find a number discussing Italy. Enjoy Florence. It is a beautiful city. -
ARCHIVED Ok, I Feel Like I Must Be Crazy!
hathor replied to Ridgewalker's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
"Natural flavors" may be OK, but might not be. Unfortunately, we need to check. I had thought that the sort of flavoring tea would take wouldn't entail gluten; well, I was wrong. Here is a list of forbidden ingredients. At the bottom of the page is a list of ingredients where you have to check. https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-241073... -
ARCHIVED Ok, I Feel Like I Must Be Crazy!
hathor replied to Ridgewalker's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You might have been accidentally glutened. There could be hidden gluten in something you ate or drank (did you check everything? I found out that two teas I liked had gluten -- all the labels said was "natural flavors"), a medicine, a personal care product. There could still be gluten on something in your kitchen or a product you bought was cross-contaminated... -
The back of your credit card statement should spell out the steps necessary for disputing a charge. Calling is good and can alert the company (particularly if a charge has yet to go through). But to preserve your rights you need to write to the credit card company. Until the dispute is resolved, you don't have to pay the challenged charge nor any financial...

ARCHIVED Diet Is Too Easy - Am I Doing Something Wrong?

I see spaghetti squash regularly even in the regular grocery store. Maybe things vary depending on where you live. The peak season is coming up. Here is a description: Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Soy Allergy Vs. Soy Intolerance
hathor replied to michelleL's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Yeah, there is such a thing as soy intolerance. It is something diagnosed by Enterolab, to my distress I never realized I had a problem with it; my reaction is subtle. I only figured it out when I tried going soyfree. According to the book "Food Allergy Survival Guide," soy allergies or intolerances (it uses both terms) can be subtle. I think whether... -
ARCHIVED Please Give Me Some Advice
hathor replied to Dru's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you ruled out Enterolab testing for some reason? That is a more sensitive test which will show problems before they would show up with blood testing, at least that is the theory. (Some are reluctant to endorse Enterolab because Dr. Fine hasn't published yet.) They say that the testing is valid at least up to one year after consuming gluten. Two... -
ARCHIVED Confused And Annoyed
hathor replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Seems to me it is a question to ask also of your gastroenterologist. He says one thing to you and another in a letter to your file? If he has reservations as to the diagnosis, he should do you the courtesy of expressing them and explaining on what such doubts are based and what you are supposed to do in the meantime. I'm curious -- did you have gene... -
Remember you can always challenge any charge put on your credit card. I've found it better to follow this route, rather than simply waiting for a credit card credit. (You do have to make your complaint known to the vendor also, but you've already done that.) For some reason, companies seem to be able to charge you immediately, but to reverse the charge...

ARCHIVED Trying To Go No Dairy After Allergy Testing
hathor replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I may be wrong, so correct me, anyone, if I am. But I always thought that allergy testing showing a problem with "dairy" would be to the protein involved, not lactose. A word of warning. Sensitivity to noncow dairy is variable. I've been told this before on this list. I have been having some small amounts of other cheeses & not noticing a problem... -
ARCHIVED Why Is gluten-free Food So Freaking Expensive?
hathor replied to leelee20's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for the hummus recipe. I like to have different kinds. One of my favorite lunches is to put hummus on a brown rice tortilla, then add in whatever vegetables I have around. There was an article in the morning paper about wheat prices going up. Oh, cry me a river ... Sorry, I have to go to the grocery store today and I'm still getting used to the... -
ARCHIVED Bath Products
hathor replied to lilypad23's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, it has. I've read that skin problems are associated with soy allergies or intolerances. I just cut it out, though, because Enterolab said I was intolerant. I thought, well, let's see what happens. I didn't expect the skin thing at all. (My reading came afterwards.) If you google on "perioral dermititis" you will see pictures similar to what... -
ARCHIVED Bath Products
hathor replied to lilypad23's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know about casein. But one of my primary symptoms from ingesting soy is that my face breaks out. So I'm hardly likely to use the stuff on my body If there are alternative products that don't contain anything I am sensitive to in food, I see no reason to chance it. -
I don't remember where I first read that. It doesn't appear clearly in my bookmarks, but I'll do a more thorough check. I've got a lot of them and some haven't been organized or relabeled to be clearer. Googling on "celiac gall bladder problems" just now, though, I found a number of hits. Here is one that looks useful: Open Original Shared Link If...

ARCHIVED Gluten-free, But Do I Have Celiacs?
hathor replied to amh04's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No, it isn't too much information. Hang out on this board and see how much we discuss our foul discharges and disgusting symptoms That is one of the great things about it. I know my family doesn't want to hear one more word about my poo ... It sure sounds like you have a problem with oats, either because of the wheat contamination or the protein...
