  1. If you are gluten free and on an Interstitial Cystitis diet, you are not alone. I'm also allergic to soy, dairy, and nuts. Sometimes I want to scream because I miss out on so many good foods. But now that I'm healing and feeling better and better, I realize that a strict adherence to the IC diet and avoidance of my food allergies is critical to my health. Here are some ideas if your diet is similarly restricted... 1. Avoid going out to eat a lot. I find that eating with friends can sometimes cause me to 'slip' and eat something I shouldn't. It's better to be in control of your environment and what food your around so you aren't tempted to eat something you shouldn't. 2. Carry Prelief with you everywhere! If you're really hungry and there aren't a lot of 'safe' IC friendly and gluten free options at least you can take some Prelief to prevent an IC flare. 3. Plan ahead by bringing safe food with you (carrot sticks, apples, pears). Make sure you know where and when you're going to eat. If you don't plan, and you become really hungry, you might be tempted to cheat. Believe me, I've been here a million times, because when i get hungry I can't wait too long to eat!
  2. It's so nice to know that you're not the only one in the world with celiac and Interstitial cystitis! I've been struggling for a long time with both illnesses and I'm finally really moving forward. After awhile I finally got my stomach and gut healed and back on tract, but my IC was horrible! The pain was unbearable. I am very strict at keeping both diets, but it's definitely very tiring. Anyone else struggling adhering to a gluten free and IC diet? I'll keep being strict because it is so worth it! My bladder is finally calming down and the pain is more bearable!
  3. I can finally come on here and say my stomach/gut is doing really well! My stomach was sick for so long that I thought I'd never feel well again. I had to do a strict elimination diet to find out what my other food triggers were. I discovered that I can't tolerate soy, dairy, and nuts in addition to the gluten. Once I eliminated those foods in addition to the gluten I started to see improvement. It still took a year, though, before I could see real progress!
  4. I've been dying to come on this discussion board with some solutions and things that are actually working! It has been a long road of difficult recovery for my digestive tract. But I'm finally in a good place. I did an elimination diet which helped me identify food triggers. My dr. has been great. He's walked me thru it all. He put me on Ultra Clear Sustain, and Ultra Inflammx (by metagenics) so I could get some nutrition into my body while we were working out all the food intolerances. My body was grossly malnourished. and it took us half a year to discover I also have allergies to soy, nuts, and milk. They don't make me near as sick as gluten, but taking them out of my diet was very helpful. My dr. also had me taken lots of fish oil, probiotics, and digestive enzymes while my gut took a year to recover from the damage gluten has caused. So be patient! It takes a long long time to really recover. I am really excited to help other who are struggling because I was suffering for sooooooo long! A good Dr. who combines western medicine, with nutrition, and natural supplements is key! I wish you all the best! I know how difficult a leaky gut can be. The sooner you fix it the better, my leaky gut caused all kinds of problems in other areas of my body, so it has been a long road to recovery. I hope I can help!
  5. I finally made it! Today is my year and a half anniversary of no gluten (with the exception of quite a few mess ups in the beginning) and my stomach is finally doing really really well! It feels great, no pain, no nausea, no vomiting when I eat. yeah! So here's what I learned 1. Be patient! It might take awhile before your gut heals really well from the damage of gluten. 2. Be very strict and don't cheat. The second you get to 0 gluten, the faster your gut will heal. 3. Realize that you could have other food allergies in addition to gluten. (I'm also allergic to soy, nuts, and dairy) none of these foods aggravate my gut as much as gluten, but removing then helped to speed up the recovery. Try an elimination diet to discover your food triggers. 4. My Doctor has had me taking for the last year-- probiotics, fish oil, digestive enzymes. They all help to restore the damage of gluten to your gut. They really help! 5. Natural ginger and peppermint really help with digestion, while your gut is recovering from gluten! 6. and make sure you don't cheat. While I was cheating on the celiac gluten free diet, it was wreaking havoc on other parts of my body. I just didn't realize it until things got really bad.
  6. I'm so excite you feel the same way. I've done some research on the film as well and it's apparent he is being less radical. I'm excited to see the film. If you go to his website you can find out ways to help change the health care system for the better. You can also tell your health care horror story and they will use it to convince government officials of the health care crisis we're in!

    I am writing to call everyone to action that uses this site. Michael more is releasing a film at the end of this month called Sicko and we should all go and see it. I have had so many problems getting health care coverage because of preexisting conditions. I am too sick to work and the health bills are piling up. I am sure many of you can relate. There are so many things we can do to make a difference. We can write to our congressmen, the press, and tell our friends. Thank you for your time!
  8. Help! I've been gluten free for a year (except for when I accidently eat some). My bladder symptoms have only gotten worse, not better. I'm eating a very restricted diet. My intestines are doing well, I'm gaining weight, and my immune system is really strong, but I'm still having huge problems with my bladder. I have a severe case of IC. I'm always in bed in pain and I don't know what to do. This site has already been so helpful. If any of you have any more suggestions for my bladder please let me know. Thank you!
  9. I have all the same issues. I found that there were other foods I needed to eliminate from my diet. I eliminated soy, nuts, and dairy from my diet and now I'm gaining weight, my bowels are normal, I don't have gas or bloating any more. Acidophylus and ground flax seeds have been really helpful. I'm still trying to get the IC under control but my stomach is improving and I no longer have cold hands and feet anymore. Maybe you have some other food allergies? or is it taking time for your stomach to heal? I was off gluten a year before I saw big improvements. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. I know it can be so frustrating not knowing what to do.
  10. Hey Robin, I'm not exactly how to use this site. I'm new as well. Even if your tests are negative for celiac you can still be gluten intolerant. All my tests came back negative but I eliminated gluten from my diet and I feel a lot better. I started eating more soy and nuts when I eliminated milk and wheat from my diet but those made me sick too. I find the safest foods for IC and Celiac are fruits that aren't too citrus, vegetables (except for tomatoes, onions, and peppers), and lean meats. I eat a lot of salads and those seem to work. Even dairy can flair up your bladder symptoms. Sunflower and pumkin seeds are a good snack. I hope this helps. Tests aren't always accurate. Good luck. It can be a difficult thing trying to solve the mystery of your health problems.
  11. I just did a search on the internet and found this wonderful link. I'm so excited to see there are other people that can relate to what I'm going through! I can't eat gluten, dairy, soy, and milk. I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy that came up negative as well. But tests aren't always accurate. I know I have Celiac and IC. I have found huge amounts of help from this link. Interstitial Cystitis Association All the lastest research on IC is on this website. You can also request a list of physicians in your area that can treat IC. So that might help you find a good doctor! I've been off of gluten for a year so my stomach feels a ton better, but my bladder is doing horrible. The Dr. says my IC is caused by the Celiac disease and that my bladder just takes longer to heal then my stomach? I'm pretty confused about the whole thing. I'm desperately searching for something to help my bladder. I've had a cystoscopy (I wouldn't recommend it. It's a horrible surgery that streches your bladder out). I've tried Detrol, Pyridium, and now I'm on hydroxyzine. Nothing is helping. I love reading everyone's posts because I can relate so much to y'all. Any success stories with therapies tried for the bladder? I need some advice. I'm definitely going to try the prelief y'all suggested. I'm about to go on the antibiotic leveaquin for an infection. I hope that won't make things worse.
