ARCHIVED Privacy And Your Feelings About It?
ravenwoodglass replied to seezee's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
That teacher is a sadist and need to be fired and prevented from ever teaching again. Schools don't need teachers like that. Although I am not a fan of lawsuits If your child starts being bullied in school in relation to her celiac because of this teachers actions a lawsuit might just be in order. She should at least be required to pay for any counseling... -
ARCHIVED Cheating On The Gluten Free Diet
ravenwoodglass replied to SusieC's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I like the Kinnickinnick crusts for a ready made one. Gluten Free Pantry makes a great french bread mix that makes a really good pizza crust if you want to make from scratch. -
ARCHIVED Cheating On The Gluten Free Diet
ravenwoodglass replied to SusieC's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You have gotten some great responses. As you have seen cheating is not an option, unless of course you would eventually like a signature like mine. Be glad you were diagnosed while the condition was at a point where you can heal fully. Cheat and eventually it won't. -
ARCHIVED Labeled gluten-free But Had Caramel Coloring
ravenwoodglass replied to ewp11100's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Scott got his info straight from the FDA website (I just checked to be sure). At no place in the FDA website does it say that corn is the most common source but it of course could be. -
ARCHIVED Labeled gluten-free But Had Caramel Coloring
ravenwoodglass replied to ewp11100's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I avoid it unless I call and find out what it is made from. From the Unsafe list on this website: /celiac-disease/forbidden-gluten-food-list-unsafe-ingredients-r182/ The problem with caramel color is it may or may not contain gluten depending on how it is manufactured. In the USA caramel color must conform with the FDA standard of identity from 2... -
ARCHIVED Dh Coming Back After Going Gluten Free
ravenwoodglass replied to srfjeld's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
It sounds like you are doing the right things. Have you eliminated gluten from all supplements, OTC and script meds, all personal care products? It can also take some time for us to heal and things can be up and down for a bit. Refractory celiac is very rare and hopefully it isn't the issue. -
ARCHIVED Test In 2 Weeks, But I've Been gluten-free...
ravenwoodglass replied to Sparrowing's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If that is what you need to do I would ask the doctor to schedule the test for August and get back on a full gluten diet until then. If you have been gluten-free for years did you already get diagnosed as a child? Or did you have problems as a child that lead the doctor to advise the diet? If so perhaps your ped already diagnosed you, I would give them a... -
ARCHIVED Abandoned Duck Eggs!
ravenwoodglass replied to G-freegal12's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
If the egg is in direct contact with the heat pouch it is most likely 'cooked'. Also do you know how long it was on the lawn before you snatched it? It may have been 'gone' before you noticed it and picked it up. You should never disturb an egg if you can possibly avoid it as the mother may be coming back to it. -
ARCHIVED Dh Coming Back After Going Gluten Free
ravenwoodglass replied to srfjeld's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
What are you typically eating? Gluten can be sneaky. Also do you have a gluten free home? CC from gluten eaters is not uncommon and we really need to take precautions against it. Go gentle with your system and go with whole unprocessed foods as much as you can as that makes it a bit easier. -
ARCHIVED B12 Levels
ravenwoodglass replied to alevoy18's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You should be taking a sublingual B12. It will bypass the damaged gut and go straight into your bloodsteam through the mucous membranes in your mouth. You are right your numbers need to be higher. Some places want the levels at least at 500 but in the US the low level in the 200s. You should feel a difference in a relativesly short time with the sublinguals... -
ARCHIVED This Is Insanity!
ravenwoodglass replied to Betty Boop's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would be happy if they just clearly labeled food. Rye, barley and oats need to be declared on a label even if they are in small amounts and don't even get me started on gluten in script and otc meds and supplements. Meanwhile, Garneir Nutritioneste, Suave and Dove will clearly label gluten in their products. Giovanni and Burt's Bees are good if you are... -
ARCHIVED Test In 2 Weeks, But I've Been gluten-free...
ravenwoodglass replied to Sparrowing's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Clearly your gluten challenge is positive however you can fully expect to have negative blood work and endoscopy. You were fully healed and you must redamage yourself enough to destroy your villi for an endoscopic exam. Three days is definately not enough of a challenge for either positive blood work or biopsy if you have been gluten free for 7 years. Your... -
I am really glad to hear you are getting help with this. Celiac can have some significant neuro impact. Be sure to be super strict with your diet and IMHO you should stay away from distilled gluten and gluten in toiletries at least until you have well healed. I hope this resolves quickly for you and it sounds like you have a good doctor.

ARCHIVED Would You Consider This Correct?
ravenwoodglass replied to macocha's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Can you give us a link to this research? I would be very interested in learning more about this. An allergic, or histamine reaction does normally take place in the time frame you referenced but according to my allergist the intolerance reaction from gluten antibodies can take up to a week for reactions to develop as the antibodies need to build up in the... -
If this gets overwhelming do seek help for it. My anxiety escalated to the point where I became agoraphobic and barely left my house. I have been under treatment for it now for a year and am much better but it is still a struggle.

ARCHIVED Negative Blood But Positive Endo?
ravenwoodglass replied to AEK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The biopsy. False negative blood work is not uncommon. For that matter so is false negative biopsy but when either or both are positive it is pretty conclusive. -
ARCHIVED Question About 'cheese Puffs'
ravenwoodglass replied to RelentlessX's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have learned the hard way to call a maker whenever I see the words 'natural flavors'. Most times the item is safe but at times barley malt can be hidden in the flavoring. Other than that I would want to know if the company makes gluten containing items on the same lines since I am very sensitive to CC. -
ARCHIVED Is Test For Dh Going To Be Negative After Eating gluten-free?
ravenwoodglass replied to farmwife67's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is my understanding also. -
DH doesn't come from other intolerances. It is a for sure diagnosis of celiac. It can take the antibodies some time to clear the skin until then you may be very sensitive to the least amount of gluten. If you go back to the doctor he may want to give you dapsone. If he does make sure you read the side effects and warnings. DH will clear on it's own if you...

ARCHIVED I Need Help From You Guys
ravenwoodglass replied to DVjorge's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This would be what I would do. A positive is a positive. False negatives are common but not false positives. -
ARCHIVED Getting Tested, Am I Doing This Right?
ravenwoodglass replied to MrCoffee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
He doesn't know what he is doing. Hopefully you are back on gluten and have been for a while. If not if you want any chance of an accurate diagnosis you need to be back on the full gluten diet for 3 months. Even then there is a chance of a false negative. How did you feel gluten free? -
ARCHIVED Leaky Gut Syndrome And Got Some ?'s
ravenwoodglass replied to sina13's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It can take a while to heal. Try to be patient with your body as we usually have some ups and downs at first. You may also want to post this question in the section for Leaky Gut, you may get some more helpful advice. -
ARCHIVED Make Up And Underarm Deodorant
ravenwoodglass replied to sina13's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Celiac is not just a gut disease it is an autoimmune disease. Gluten can cross the mucosal tissues and cause an antibody reaction as your doctor stated. It is a matter of personal choice whether to eliminate it from toiletries. I personally don't use gluten containing cosmetics, shampoos or conditioners. I feel why risk it when safe gluten free alternatives...
