  1. Oh yea, I had this issue. My stomach was so loud I used to always carry a sweater or coat to 'muffle' it when sitting. The only time my stomach growls now is when I get glutened.
  2. Betty Crocker has both chocolate and yellow cake mixes and brownies and chocolate chip cookie mix. They also mark their gluten-free frostings. Gluten Free Pantry also has cake mixes along with a French Bread mix that makes a great homemade pizza. The dough is really sticky so I put it in the fridge for a bit before I make the crusts. It take a bit to get...
  3. I would go and just let them know what happened. I am sure they will be understanding.
  4. For me the D started out being a once or twice a week thing, then it went to daily, then it went to day and night. I did have a period for a while where I went back and forth between C and D. I think quite a few of us do. You may want to think about getting tested. You must still be eating gluten so don't go gluten free before the tests. Tests can be a false...
  5. Have you seen an allergist? You may want to give a few a call and see if they deal with intolerances. They can guide you through an elimination diet and may be able to help with the testing. Not all allergists deal with intolerances so ask the nurse when you call to make an appointment.
  6. On average about 3 or 4. I have been gluten free now for 8 years. It is usually due to my playing roulette with items 'made in the same facility as...'.
  7. The veg broth in the tuna is likely soy. I have yet to find a plain tuna that has gluten. I don't do soy so I go with Starkist in the gold can, just tuna and water and nothing else. As far as the chicken in a broth, that I would call the company and check to make sure it is gluten free to be on the safe side. As far as MSG goes I think the tuna in just...
  8. I don't like gluten challenges but I think I would do the challenge in your position. But I would do something else. Take pictures of the areas where she has skin issues now, then take pictures of them after a bit back on gluten. Note all symptoms in yourself and your children and review this with your husband on a daily basis. Unfortunately even with the...
  9. A dermotologist can give you a biopsy of the skin next to a lesion to look for antibodies. From the sounds of the location it is likely this is DH but a derm can tell you for sure.
  10. Not all celiacs in those countries consume wheat starch. As you have seen many of us here wouldn't chance it. I wouldn't either. You might want to ask in the International section, perhaps some folks there can give an opinion on whether they consume it or not.
  11. I would urge you to follow your derms advice. I use all gluten free products.
  12. I agree completely with this. Cleanses are not IMHO safe for us.
  13. You really need to get back on a full gluten diet for at least 3 months before testing. The tests are for antibodies and if you haven't been eating gluten you are not producing enough antibodies for the test to have any chance of being positive. Even on a full gluten diet the tests may be a false negative. If your body rebels strongly to gluten that is pretty...
  14. Some of the symptoms you are describing sound more like ataxia than a migraine. Did a doctor tell you these were migraines? If you haven't seen a doctor about this you should. Meanwhile think back to Jan. what changed? Are you on a supplement or med that started at that time? Did you change shampoos or lotions? Do people cook with wheat flour at your home...
  15. Allergy testing is for 'true' allergies which some of us can of course have along with intolerances. Allergies are a histamine reaction, intolerances are an antibody reaction, from what I understand. Intolerances thus would not be picked up on allergy testing.
  16. Things have changed a lot in the last couple years as far as gluten free food goes. We now have bread that is edible, Kinnickinnick and Grainless Baker are a couple good ready mades. Pizza, doughnuts, cookies and cakes and such make it an easier transition than it was even 8 years ago when I was first diagnosed. If you have a Wegmans close by they label all...
  17. It used to be thought that children could outgrow celiac. We now know that is not the case. A celiac is a celiac for life. False negatives on testing are not uncommon. You could consider persueing being rediagnosed but personally I would just get back on the diet.
  18. Yes that is an indication that she is celiac. You doctor must have missed it or he or she is not knowledgable about the disease. Most US doctors know very little about it. GI doctors want a biopsy to confirm because that is the way it has been done for so long, IMHO. Unfortunately biopsy does also have a high rate of false negatives for a variety of reasons...
  19. I doubt it is too late for you. What you need to do is to just keep very strict to the diet, if you are not already. That will stop the outbreaks without drugs.
  20. Thanks for posting this. It was quite helpful. If my nails are any indication I may have another diagnosis in my near future. At least I know that it seems my doctor is testing for what she should be.
  21. There are some of us who will react to even distilled gluten grains. I also am one of them. If someone is newly diagnosed IMHO it is best to be completely healed before trying them. Chances are you will be fine but some like Wolicki and myself might as well eat a wheat based pizza. They have the same effect.
  22. It sounds like you have a good derm. Welcome to the 'family'. You can now call yourself officially a celiac. Do be strict and do watch out for gluten in your topicals. You should start healing soon.
  23. Be sure to give the diet a try after all testing is done. No matter what the results.
  24. That depends, are you having symptoms? If you are you need to know that there are high rates of false negatives with the blood tests and even with the endo. If you are symptomatic, including fatigued, anemia, skin problems, issues with moods, fibro etc as well as, or instead of, GI issues you could still have an issue with gluten and a gluten-free trial after...
  25. Yes, although many still consider it a GI disorder it is actually an autoimmune disorder that can pretty much effect any organ in the body.
