ARCHIVED Hot Dog And Hamburger Buns That Taste Good?
ravenwoodglass replied to farmwife67's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Kinni products are made in a dedicated facility. I am super sensitive and have never had an issue with any of their products. You may be intolerant to something else in them or you may have been gotten by something else up to three days or so before you ate them. We can have delayed reactions which makes it confusing at first trying to figure out what got... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And H. Pylori
ravenwoodglass replied to mlarson's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You may have done this already but just in case- make sure you have your pharmacist check to be sure it is gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Looking For Good Frozen Pizza
ravenwoodglass replied to farmwife67's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My gosh those all sound so good. I will definately try the fruit one. The cinnamon and sugar sounds good too. I can see me going through many more crusts a week very soon. Pizza as dinner and as dessert, what could be better for a junk food day. -
ARCHIVED Snyders- Call To Action
ravenwoodglass replied to cbear6301's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You are kidding aren't you!!!! With that companies idea of how to make safe gluten free food I can't imagine anyone wanting to risk it when so many safe snack foods are around. -

When I had to do a gluten challenge I was told to eat it at least three times a day. If you are celiac or gluten intolerant even small amounts will cause an antibody reaction. It can take up to a week for the antibodies to build up enough to cause a reaction. I do fully understand your need for a firm diagnosis. One thing I would do is keep a record of what... -
ARCHIVED Snyders- Call To Action
ravenwoodglass replied to cbear6301's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had to give up the Glutino pretzels for the same reason. Then I found the Wylde ones. They are great. You may have already discovered them but thought I would mention in case you are missing pretzels as much as I was. -
ARCHIVED Shingles
ravenwoodglass replied to EJR's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Boy doctors do like to throw the Big C in there don't they? I think it would be nice if they would hold off with this possibility until the really know what is going on. As hard as it is try not to worry about it too much. Did you have a celiac panel done before you went gluten free? I know you mention Enterolab and they are pretty good at telling us that... -
ARCHIVED I Wasn't Sure What To Say...
ravenwoodglass replied to shepgs's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am totally overwhelmed that someone would do this. Do you have a cat? If you do the next time this is done to you go to the litter box and take out a nice piece of 'used litter' and plop it down on their plate. When they freak out tell them they can just take it off and then eat. The little bit of litter won't hurt them. Do NOT eat the pasta after it... -

I think the Kinnickinnick crusts are great. I always have a package on hand. They come 4 to a box for about $9. Hormel pepperoni is gluten-free and I always keep it and cheese on hand for a quick meal. -

I'm glad to hear that you are doing better. Be aware that you may find you have pretty bad D in the next day or two. That can sometimes be delayed for us. I usually have the severe pain the first day and D on the third or fourth. I always make sure I have pepto liquid on hand, just in case, cause when the pain hits I really can't make it to a store to buy... -
ARCHIVED Met With Gi Today, Tests Ordered For Tomorrow
ravenwoodglass replied to AlysounRI's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Asking him about that does seem a good plan. Try not to worry about tommorrow if you can. The test isn't bad and although you will have conscious sedation that doesn't mean that you will feel or remember anything. If your really nervous mention that to them when you get to the procedure, if there is a long wait they might give you something to relax you. -
ARCHIVED I Will Hopefully Find Out Soon...
ravenwoodglass replied to Stylo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It sounds like both you and your Mom should get tested. The fact that you felt great on the Atkins is IMHO significant. Ask your doctor for a full celiac panel and if you want an endo with biopsies looking for celiac. After you have done all the testing you choose to do give the diet a good strict try for a couple of months. That really is the best test there... -
ARCHIVED Met With Gi Today, Tests Ordered For Tomorrow
ravenwoodglass replied to AlysounRI's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Are you already gluten free or have you been? I am wondering if you are if the doctor realizes the tests would be a waste of time and money and that is the reason he didn't order them. He may also feel that since the rate of false negatives is high the endo might be the way to go. -
Technically one would define me as gluten intolerant because I don't show up in blood work even though my wise doctors did diagnose me as celiac. I was literally laying on my bathroom floor bleeding from my intestines when I was supposed to be at the endo because of my severe reaction to the challenge. I would disagree strongly that GI is less serious....

ARCHIVED Frustrated With Results Of Endo. Biopsy

I also advise you to give the diet a good strict try. No one knows what your body needs better than your body. -
ARCHIVED Starting Over...
ravenwoodglass replied to jenni0482's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Gosh I wish the term 'gluten intolerance' didn't exist. It really gives the impression that those with GI are not as seriously ill or don't need to be as strict as someone with celiac. IMHO they are the same thing! You need to be just as strict and just as much damage can be done. If you really want to be 'officially' diagnosed I hate to tell you but you... -
ARCHIVED Vitamin K Deficiency?
ravenwoodglass replied to O.N.'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you were gluten free or gluten light when the blood tests were done it would cause a false negative. If you want any chance of a positive blood test you need to go back on gluten for at least 3 months before the blood is drawn and then there is still a risk of a false negative. If you feel better gluten free then you don't need a doctors permission to... -
ARCHIVED Belly Sensitive To The Touch
ravenwoodglass replied to beijing's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You could very well have been glutened. I also get severe pain when glutened and Pepto Bismal liquid seems to help. If your pain is extemely severe you may want to call your doctor or go to the ER. The ER can make sure that nothing else is going on and if needed give you a GI cocktail to help the pain. Although with the gurgling it is likely you were glutened... -
Where you go from here is to the diet followed very strictly. I don't think I would persue genetic testing unless you can afford it and are being tested for all the genes. My daughter had genetic testing done after having both positive bloods and biopsy and has used the genetic results as 'proof' to me that she is not and never was celiac. Her doctors, at...

The night sweats could be related, do mention those to the doctor. You may be running a low grade fever that is spiking at night. Have you taken your temp? It sounds like you are getting constipated and then clearing out. Have you tried eliminating dairy or soy to see if it helps?

ARCHIVED Positive Biopsy, Negative Blood Tests
ravenwoodglass replied to echopants's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
False negatives with blood work are not unusual. A positive biopsy is a positive biopsy. That is considered the gold standard. Hopefully you are already on the diet, if not get on it today. -
ARCHIVED Wheat Amino Acids

I wouldn't use it. -
ARCHIVED Snyders- Call To Action

Thanks for posting this. I will be avoiding their new 'gluten-free' products. Hopefully they will at least do what Lay's does. Ya know put in little letters at the end of their long list of gluten-free products the disclaimer that the products are produced in a shared facility. I wouldn't touch those pretzels anymore than I will eat Doritos. I never did like...
