  1. Here is my sheet I've been using. In the beginning I cut wheat/gluten/dairy/sugar/nuts/etc. I've added little-by-little. Open Original Shared Link Use This To Link To Spam/ck8G37

I mean, I know what it is -- it's eating in order to pinpoint something that's causing a reaction. But is there "the" elimination diet? i.e., week one, eat just this and this and that. Week two, eat just these things. etc. Or is it basically just eat plainly and gradually introduce things that you think are bothering you?

I'm going to go Google it now, but just wondered what your experiences have been, and how you've done an elimination diet. I am definitely eating something that's bothering me. I don't see how it could be gluten, based on what I ate yesterday. I'm thinking lactose from what several of you suggested in another thread. But, I didn't think I ate any of that yesterday either! so frustrating....

  2. I have become intolerant to peanut butter. I am currently doing somewhat of an ellimination diet. It's not fun, but it's much easier to see what I'm reacting to when I'm eating few foods.

My tongue has been my most symptomatic place, other than my stomach. My tongue always feels swollen and chronically irritated. When I'm super, duper good with eating and strict, that burning sensation goes down a lot! Anyways, as of recently, I've noticed the peanut butter making it worse?!

I have eaten rice cakes but these were "Cracker Jack". But, I may have double dipped into the PB because I make sandwiches for my son, Liam.

But, odd you should ask, my tongue feels a little swollen and I have developed little cankers - asap. I have noticed this before. Is that weird.

  3. Have you always eaten rice cakes, peanut butter and Jelly or are those new foods?

What does your tongue feel like?

Oh help. I am so frustrated. I have completely, I think, cut gluton from my diet - and it hasn't been easy as you all know - but my stomache is bloated huge, I am so tired and cranky and even my tongue hurts. Tuesday I had a caramel rice cake with PB and J and boom - a reaction. I don't get it. Otherwise, I have been making sandwiches with bread for my son. I don't know. Plus - I can't seem to loose any weight and I don't hardly eat and really bike like 10 - 15 miles a day. Any suggestions on what happened? Any suggestions on relief.
  4. So you felt good for 1 week on raw diet? Why not go back to tha tdiet and see if it helps? It sounds like that would be a pretty good elimination diet also. I don;t know if you are familiar with the elimination diet idea, but it is a good way to find food intolerances. One way is to start from a core of safe foods, then slowly add additional test foods in one at a time. No more than 1 new food every other day is a good plan. Keep a food diary and if you find a problem food, drop it out of the diet. Then keep going and adding foods one at a time as before. There is a possibility that you have more than 1 food allergy so you don't want to stop at the first one you find. Don't forget that vitamins, medicines, and toothpaste are all suspects in the diet just like foods. A good simple core diet would be rice with veggies. Maybe rice and peas to start. You are basically doing food intolerance detective work. So take it slow and add things slowly. Too many suspects can confuse even the best detective! :D

Ok...this is EXACTLY what I need to do, too! I can't figure out what's wrong with me BUT I do know that I once did a raw, detox diet and on the 13th day everything was gone and I felt phenomenal. I was eating a LOT of different types of food then. Now I just want to cut it to the bare necessities, eliminate and try to figure out what does not like me. Instead of starting with rice and veggies, could I start with Quinoa and veggies? And should we limit to only a handful of veggies to begin with? (Where is a list of the SAFE core foods?!) Any advice for us would be great...and to the person who put up the post - if you want to do this with me - pm me...maybe we can figure it out together!

  5. My GYNO wants me to go back on the pill for regularity. BUT...I'm getting married in November and we may want to have kids then. So then he said ok then not?! If I don't watch what I eat, I too, will gain like 5 in a day. Mostly bloat. My tummy gets severly distended. That's when my GI will have me do enemas and drink an entire bottle of Mag Citrate to make EVERYTHING get through me. UGH!

I also have many oral problems.

I cant take birth control. Thats what I did last time to start my periods back up. I gained 20 IBS on the pill. retained water so bad it hurt to touch my skin and my muscles would cramp up with charlie horses. I enede up in the ER with a hemoglobin of 8 and then had to go on iron, which made me sick also- blah! My gyno I have now said she wont put me on the pill since there are heart problems in my immediate family and conidering my reaction...
  6. Please keep me updated as to what you find out! I would say that mine is either from the digestive stuff OR because I'm 25 years old, 5'5" and I went from about 125 lb to 117lb? Do you think? I started dieting in April. I'm so confused!!!! I wish it would just come...

OMG!! my mom mentioned colitis! well I'm glad I'm not going insane.

I havent had a colonoscopy or anything. I havent actualy been to the G.I. yet, or ever. I havent had my P since May, and like you I am more concerned about that than the digestive problems. I'v lost my period for being too thin when I was 16, but I wiegh 140 now and am 5'6.....I was 115 when I lost it last time! I'm mostly muscle mass, but I DEFINITLY have healthy fat on me...

thanks so much for responing :)

  7. I am in you EXACT boat. I have not had my "friend" since April. Since April I haven't consumed gluten, except for the few "messups." I am also in your same boat with the C. I went gluten-free and THEN had all the Celiac tests, which, were negative - no surprise. I had an endo and a colonoscopy. The dr did find a form a colitis - proctitis. This means that when I have a "flare up," I won't be able to get anything through me...not even a laxative, until the bottom of me is softened. So when I make mistakes I get severely backed up and have to do enemas. Have you had a colonoscopy?

My biggest frustration, though, is still that it's been since April with no friend! I'm getting married soon and am getting concerned about children....

thanks!!! Yeah, my mom is thinking that my reproductive problems have been causing all my digestive problems this whole time....either way, I'm still avoiding gluten given the amazing changes I've seen! the positive definitly outwieghs the negatives.
  8. I had many problems like you. And then...in one year I came down with 4-5 bouts of tonsillitis/pharyngitis/strep/ect. It was miserable. I ended up having my tonsils and adenoids removed. I have never had a "real" problem with my throat since...amazing. But now I've just developed awful dry mouth feeling and chronic mouth problems. I think my thyroid may be off, too...since I don't get my "female monthly friend."

    Thanks a bunch!!!

It sounds like we are already headed in the right direction since hubby is going to start an elimination diet which includes the foods you listed. Hubby read along with me, laughed, and said "well, I guess we're in it together. Partners in crime." As far as excercise, I'm trying to avoide that right now anyway as I have lost tons of weight and am getting down to a critical weight and want to hang on to every calorie I can get. I'm sure there is room for healing and I hope it doesn't take too long, but at the same time, I'm totally afraid it'll only get worse until I can't swallow at all! Ahhh!

  9. What does everyone's ANXIETY look like?! How does it manifest in you?

Can anxiety be a gluten issue have any of you suffered with it related to celeiac??

I have been gluten-free for 1 day and it feel like the anxiety/nervouseness is worse not better??

what the heck is going on...

    any advice would be great

    Thank you so much

  10. It would be easier for you to tell me what your eating. I have a very simple basic diet...no processed foods. Mainly potato's and meat. I never did eat bread, so I don't bother with that tapioca or rice stuff they try to pass off as bread. If I use any condiments...it's only heinz ketchup, or hellmans light mayo. I don't do bottled salad dressings, as something in them upsets my stomach, I'm assuming it's the distilled vinegar (even though they say it's safe) I make my own salad dressing with red wine vinegar. I usually just take a hamburg or 2 hotdogs for lunch at work ( I work 2nd shift) I still have problems with milk products, they upset my stomach, but sometimes ya gotta have that bowl of ice cream...breyers french vanilla. I have become a creature of habit, only eating the same things. If we go out for dinner, we travel the 40 miles to hit outback....they have a gluten free menu. And as for alcohol....I drink redbridge beer, my local distributor stocks it for me (GOD BLESS THEM) For some reason, some things I eat still upset my stomach (not my mouth though) but I don't believe it's from gluten....I think it's just gonna take awhile for my stomach to heal totally. If you are totally positive that your gluten free....maybe you have some other allergy that is causing the mouth shedding and soreness. Another hidden thing I avoid is anything that says modified food starch.....It may be gluten....so I absolutely avoid it all. Hope this helps some

Here's a common day for me (everything made at home by me): Grilled chicken, tofu, shrimp, all natural greek yogurt, applies, grapes, almonds, olive oil, natural chunky peanut butter, rice cakes, rice milk, chocolate rice milk, soy milk - unflavored, starbucks coffee, sugarfree hazelnut syrup, walnuts, rice and shine, quinoa, lettuce, veggies. The end. Do you see any culprits?!?! I thought it was all gluten-free? My mouth has been burning and raw...no peeling in awhile.

  11. Before being diagnosed with celiac....my mouth was shedding it's lining on a daily basis. After going gluten free, it stopped shedding. I was just wondering if anyone else had this same problem. My doctors and my dentist thought I was crazy, heck, I thought I was going crazy. I am just very curious to see if anyone had the same situation, or if I'm the only mouth shedder on the planet.

Would you mind PM'ing me or posting what you eat in a day? I think I'm still consuming something with gluten...which is why the mouth thing won't go away! OR...maybe something I'm eating I'm also intolerant to? Suggestions? I want it gone for good! I also think that when I make a "mistake" it ruins my mouth for AT LEAST 2 weeks. Could that be?

  12. YES...my mouth was sore, but not like make me cry pain, more like annoying pain, almost like it was raw. Is your mouth still shedding after going gluten free? And about the Doctors not knowing what your going through...after a huge crying jag to him....he put me on zoloft...lol, but I couldn't take it cuz it hurt my stomach. I went to the Doctors so much, that I actually heard the nurse tell another nurse (about me) that I was there all the time. I'm actually concerned because I've had more catskans (sp?) in 3 years, than anyone is suppose to have for their entire life. The day I got my paper work in the mail, with test results stating that I have celiac disease.....instead of being upset about my lifestyle changing.....I cried like a baby because I found out that my illness WAS real, and had a name.

OMG...this is me EXACTLY! I'm so glad I found you! When the Dr's ask me to explain my pain in my mouth the way I typically describe it is...it's not like there are sores; it doesn't hurt like a canker sore (although I get them from time-to-time) it feels like I"m sticking my tongue out and someone is constantly rubbing a carpet over it! Anyways, I have not had any shedding since going gluten-free. HOWEVER, my mouth still feels raw a lot...CC maybe? If I purposely ingest gluten and binge (ugh...the devil!!!) I will get awful shedding on my cheeks and always in my bottom lip. It's gross. But after a few days will go away! The thing is, I am not a confirmed Celiac as my GI did not know what he was doing so I had been gluten-free for awhile, then took the Blood test and did the Endo/Colon. It did not show Celiac. He ended up diagnosing me with Proctitis...a form of Colitis. I know I"m Celiac or at the very least gluten intolerant. Even as a small child I would get those cracks in the corners of my mouth...many other symptoms.

So...your shedding stops when you don't have gluten, but is your mouth still raw?

Yeah!!!!!!! I found someone with my problem. AMEN!

  13. I'm positive it is not thrush....I never had any white spots, it wasn't sores......it was just shedding, it was like a thin layer of membrane was peeling off my cheeks. I would have to kinda prod it with my toungue, to get it to come off, and where it was attached, it would hurt for a spell after I pulled the skin off. I swear, I asked everyone I knew if that ever happend to them before, and not one soul ever heard of it before. THIS is the first time that anyone has ever validated my problem. I don't know if there were red spots inside my mouth, as I never really looked. But all I know, is that after going gluten free.....it stopped completely.....so, I'm assuming, it had nothing to do with any other factors other than gluten. I never used an inhaler, nor an electric toothebrush....or toothepase with whitening. I'm positive it was gluten, because thats the only variable that changed.

And to confirm for you (re.people thinking it may be thrush)...the first time I ever brought my oral problems/mouth shedding up to my dentist (over 4 years ago) - he, too, thought I might possibly have thrush. He said, "well I don't think you do, but you may." So, he put me on a thrush antibiotic. Nope..no good. Did nothing. If anything it annoyed my mouth more! You are NOT crazy. This is a real phenomenon going on inside of your mouth. sometimes, now, when I go to the Dr I will start crying because they are all the same, in saying, "well...I don't SEE any sores or anything." And I have to explain over and over and over and over....that they won't find anything. That it's a chronically frustrating irritation! Does your whole mouth irritate you, too?

Who said they get red spots in their mouth? I get these, too! They can come and go w/in a day. Do they look like mini-blood blister with NO pain?

  14. I remember telling my gastro Dr. (before I was diagnosed with celiac) that my mouth was shedding....and he just said "huh......I've never heard of that before, it must be your toothepaste". So then I asked my dentist, and he said the same thing.....it must be your tootepaste. So then I thought maybe the toothepaste was causing all my stomach problems too. At one point, I even thought the water at my home was causing all the problems. Good Lord, at one point I thought someone was trying to poison me..lol. After breaking up with gluten....my mouth has not shed, and I still use the same toothepaste I always did. I did get a water softener installed though, and I'm not accusing my husband of poisoning me anymore.....(heavy sigh) life is good! B)

So when all of your mouths "shed," does it almost leave like red patches temporarily in your mouth?

  15. I was trying WW also and lost 4 lbs the first two weeks. It is easy to follow since I stick to fruits, vegies, chicken, fish, olive oil, and lots of water.

One thing is bothering me though. Has anyone had any stomach troubles with the fat free yogurts, cottage cheese, or extra vegies?

I have been on and off for the past several weeks and very frustrated. I am wondering if the artificial sweeteners in the fat free yogurts are upseting my stomach. I need to lose at least 15 lbs since going gluten free but am finding my stomach is not cooperating like it had been for months and that is making me very nervous.

    Any suggestions?

I have stomach problems with all the things you mentioned. Here's how to combat:

    1. Fat Free yogurts - Do not get the artificially flavored ones. No good! Get one of these natural brands (Oikos OR voskos or Fage) All of them are WONDERFUL because they have barely any fat and TONS of protein. Not much sugar. So I will have like 1/2 cup of that with rasperries or some other fruit for flavor. There might be 2 points total for the whole concoction.

    2. Dairy in general - just go easy. When you have stomach problems, period, you should watch the dairy intake. If you like it a lot just reduce your amounts. I used to eat everything...cheese, yogurt, ice cream, milk, cottage cheese, eggs, etc, but it's never done anything good for me. I'm down to like 1/2 c of dairy a day. I will drink Rice Milk or Soy milk if I need a "milk product!"

    3. Veggies - In excessive amounts they are also hard to digest. The one that's always the most troublesome for me is Brocolli. Do you eat a lot of that? Brocolli causes gas and bloating as well. I still have brocolli almost everyday but instead of it like 3 times/day, I'll have it maybe once, with no more than 7 spears. There are many other veggies that won't have that effect! You just have to determine which ones work for your body. Corn is the other one that hates me...it will always come out of me undigested.

    Hope that helps!

What do you mean your mouth is "shedding?" And does it irritate or hurt you?

  17. Has anyone attempted Weight Watchers while being gluten sensitive??? It's working, but I am looking for anyone who is or has done this successfully. Advice and any hints you have would be helpful. Gotta get the excess pounds off!

Yes, I do it and I love it and I've lost a lot of weight by doing it! Stick with fish, meat, veggies, fruit, quinoa, nuts, raisins! I also deviate from this but those are my staples! Oh and olive oil. AND COUNT EVERY POINT!

  18. I really hope you don't regret your day of fun!!! I thought the same thing as you last weekend. I started with the gluten on Saturday night and had it all of Sunday. I was doing fine...until late Monday, with everything the worst on Wednesday! It has not been a fun week, that's for sure.

    Good luck....

I've been at this a few months. I know my first month I wasn't totally gluten-free but now I feel confident I have been. I decided to eat wheat all day today and see what would happen. I mean, I ate bread, fried chicken, cupcakes, etc and not one reaction.

I didn't have to run to the bathroom, I didn't feel sick. The reason I did this was because I am speading extra money being gluten-free, I haven't noticed a huge difference. My anxiety is still up there. Just very small changes. I think even my IBS has been cut down due to my how I normally eat now- no friend foods, etc.

My question is, should I have been very ill eating all this wheat today? I had blood tests that had my IGA borderline and with all my stomach problems I went gluten-free. Any advice is appreciated.

  19. Hello!

Unfortunately, for me...I get 10X's worse reaction after avoiding it for a long period of time. I was doing so good...no gluten or anything for over a month. I got into it last weekend and I have been soooooo miserable this week. Stomach pain, c AND d and my mouth kills and teeth too!!!! Not fun. Don't do it!
