My husband and I both loved them. We both did not like Ians. I liked the dinosaur shaped ones by someone who's name I don't remember. My husband preferred the Applegate farms to all other brands. If we can find them we will be buying more Applegate Farms chicken nuggets. For some reason our store took the sign down when the last package was bought.

A number of the Burts Bees ones are. You can e-mail them for the current list. Mine is years old.
I use their Marshmallow Vanishing Creme in the summer and during the day in the winter. In the evening during the winter I use their Evening Primrose Overnight Creme. The Marshamallow Creme is light weight whereas the Evening Primrose is very heavy. Perfect for Colorado dry winters.

Udi's bread in Denver gets me every time. It is the world best tasting gluten free bread and I can't eat it. I think it is because they only washed the lines when they converted over to gluten free, didn't replace them. Very low level of cross contamination but enough to keep me in the house near the restroom. I now buy only Outside the Breadbox from Colorado Springs.
Van's waffles. I just tried these last week. I had a reaction that I didn't know where it came from. Now I'm suspicious about the waffles. I won't be buying them again.
Lays potato chips. A shame but they might as well label them as process on wheat facilities. Something labeled like that almost always gets me. I now use Michael Season's low salt potato chips and they have not glutened me. And they are very good.
I use gluten ease for every meal I eat out. before that I was getting cc reactions at least 4 out of 5 times. Now almost never. I can't even remember the last time I had a problem.
This is a good thread. I hope more people list which items get them.

I'm also planning a trip to Italy this fall. I haven't stayed there yet but found this on the web site of the Crown Plaza hotel in Rome.
"Specially organized gluten free menu and gluten free products included on our breakfast buffet
2008 IHG EMEA Award for Hotel Renovations
Gluten free menus available"
Open Original Shared Link
As a result they are a likely candidate should I need a hotel in Rome. If anyone else has other suggestions I would love to hear about them as I have not yet booked anything.
Have fun!

Thanks! I did not know this and now I do. It is nice to have a widely available brand sold at mainstream stores that I can get when I'm out of my home area and don't know where the local health food store is.
-
Yes I have tried it. It is to die for! I don't even follow the directions and use a mixer or follow the order to put in the ingredients. I just put all the liquids/butter together and then add the dry mix. I use a hand wisk to get all the lumps out.
It turned out great both times I made it. Better than any gluten free cake I have ever had. For some reason I have to bake it twice as long as it is recommended. But it doesn't burn or anything, it just turns out perfect. There are two cakes per box. It is a great deal.

There was one in Erie Colorado that opened then closed. I don't know if they failed or just closed up shop. They seemed to be an extension of Deby's. Unfortunately they had really limited hours so I never went there. Although I would love a totally gluten free store/restaurant near me I must confess I don't make the 45 min. drive to Deby's that often. I will go there if I'm in the area though. The other thing that may make getting into the CO market difficult at this time is that King Soopers has really expanded their gluten free food offerings. With Udi's in the bread market and being carried by King Sooper I find that they are my main grocery store right now. The reason I say right now is that the last time I went they had dropped one of my staples, Applegate Farms turkey slices, for lack of others buying them. I've pretty much dropped Whole Foods completely since they aren't price competitive and their selection isn't that good. My shopping is divided between King Sooper and Vitamin Cottage which remains the standout grocery store for me due to their excellent selection and low prices. I probably would eat at Deby's at least once a week if they were 10-15 minutes away.
Good luck! Maybe Deby's would allow the failed Erie owners to contact you to discuss why they went out of business.

Sorry, can't help with your question so I hope you'll forgive my posting but please post a review when you get back. I love to cruise but haven't gone since going gluten free. I love to read about others experiences so I can make a good cruise line choice when I venture out on the high seas. What cruise line are you going on?
Thanks!

Hi Patti,
I use Digest Gold (regular digestive enzyme) and GlutenEase (specifically to help with digesting gluten) whenever I eat out and my glutenings have gone down significantly. They are both by Enzymedica. I have no experience with other brands so don't know how they compare. There is some controversy on the GlutenEase in that people want you to be aware that you shouldn't take it and purposely eat gluten. I never purposely eat gluten but it has helped with my negative reactions when I eat out and I am not so wary of eating out any more.

Thanks for posting a review! I had been considering Holland America for my next cruise but the more positive reviews for gluten free food seem to be NCL and Royal Carribean so maybe I will restrict my search to those cruise lines. I really appreciate your taking the time to let us know of your experience.

Hi All,
I went to the 9th Door in Denver tonight and got glutened. I didn't feel it until I got home which was about a half hour after I stopped eating so it could have been anywhere in the meal. I got there early enough to get the cheaper happy hour appetizers which the waiter said could be made gluten free even if they weren't marked. I only ordered marked gluten free tapas for the main meal. And then for desert, none of the items were marked gluten free and they told me I could order anything but the chocolate cake so I had the chocolate covered figs.
I have to say, I really enjoyed this meal and am so disappointed to be having the reaction I am. But maybe it was because I asked for things that weren't marked. Can anyone tell me their experiences? I know for other restaurants I go to sometimes the server tells me the wrong thing and if it is a place I frequent I correct them and then don't get glutened. Could this be what happened to me tonight? Maybe the chocolate covered figs aren't really gluten free. Or I should have never attempted the happy hour appetizers.
Thanks,
Michelle

Ooh, I just looked up the menu at the 9th Door. I found this post tonight when searching for a place to take my friend for her birthday. We lucked out and got a reservation tonight and I just got back. It was really good! Thanks! Post meal update: I got glutened. I posted for help from those who have been there to figure out why because the food was so good. It is a separate thread.

I've been buying a brand of chocolate bar called Dagoba organic chocolate. It comes in about 15 different exotic flavors (don't worry it also has plain). It says Gluten Free right on the back of every bar. I love supporting a company that says it right on the bar and I don't have to do a bunch of leg work to figure it out. It is at my local Vitamin Cottage so maybe a health store in your area carries it too. The company is located in Ashland Oregon. Their web site is www.dagobachocolate.com.
Good luck on your quest!

Hi, Thanks for your reports!
I love to cruise but haven't been since going gluten free. I was hesitant to try Princess since I had not yet seen a good report. We are Platinum on Princess so it has been one of my favorite lines.
To perhaps look at one thing a little differently if a server at a restaurant delivers a meal to me and doesn't mention that it is gluten free I ask. So I would be one who appreciated confirmation that they realized I needed the special meal and had in fact grabbed that one and not one of the others that may look just like it.
Thanks again!

We use ours at least 4 times per day (2 smoothies each). My favorite is the banana split smoothie:
1 banana
3 frozen strawberries (we get the big bag from Costco)
1/3 cup pasturized egg white (from the carton)
1 tsp chocolate extract (optional as it is hard to find)
Put all in a magic bullet glass, fill with water to about 3/4 inch from the top. Use the taller blade and blend until smooth.
It is the perfect breakfast and mid morning snack. It has protein, fiber and carbs but all healthy.
I make two in the morning. One I drink for breakfast and the second I take to work for a mid-morning snack.
I love the fact that the cups come with covers so you can just wipe the rim, screw on the cover and go. We are still on our first engine but we bought a second one to get more cups. It is the most used appliance in our house.
For the first smoothie of the day I put in all my supplements and it makes them all easy and enjoyable to take.
Have fun!

I'm going to be the first person to reply since I just invested some $s and my experience may help someone else.
I'll start with the Lip Shimmers. I love these! So far I have bought 6 colors. Not because I really needed six colors but because the colors on the lids are not at all like that in the tube (but what lipstick ever is?). Hint: right now Walgreens has them on sale at two for $6. For my first tube I bought it at Whole foods for $5. The second tube at another store for $4.50 so when I saw the Walgreen's sale I got four more tubes.
Here are my translations of the colors:
Raisin - A very nice brighter red. Not super bright but the one you would likely pick to wear with a bright red top.
Fig - A darker red. A very nice color red with maybe just a shade of brown in it. For me this was the color I would always pick for my main color.
Papaya - A shiny metallic bronze. Very fun color.
Rhubarb - A reddish pink but for me too pink. But if you like a pink this would be a good one to try.
Nutmeg - I would have to say this was a coral color.
Cocoa - This one really does look like the color on the lid but it was the only one that looked like the color on the lid. It also has a metallic shimmer over that color. I don't really know how to describe it. Sort of a purplish brown with an underlay of platinum.
I bought the Radiance Healthy Glow Kit. It has 7 trial size products from the Radiance grouping. Everything in this kit is on the list except the Night Creme. I keep looking at the list to see if I missed it but so far I can't find it.
I also bought the Essential Body Kit. This has 8 trial size items. Out of this kit it appears the Peppermint Foot Lotion isn't on the list. I can use 7 items from this kit so it isn't a bad value.
I wrote Burt's Bees to see if the Radiance Night Creme was accidentally omitted from the list since it is the only Radiance product in the kit that wasn't gluten free and I couldn't find a suspicious ingredient. The Peppermint Foot Lotion did contain wheat germ oil.
Last night I tried two face products:
Evening Primrose Overnight Creme. This didn't turn my face red. Yeah! I haven't been able to apply any lotion to my face that did not turn it red in years. I have rosacia and when I get glutened the skin on my face flakes off in large flakes. This lotion goes on very oily (so probably not good for oily skin) and frankly doesn't smell very good. Actually it is disgusting. But my face was in good shape this morning. I bought the Burt's Bees Radiance kit listed above to try and see if I can get good results without the smell. No trial size of the Primrose Overnight Creme though so I had to buy a full size.
Royal Jelly Eye Creme with Aloe Vera. No offensive smell. I put it around my eyes and it went on oily. No negative reaction over night.
If you use any Burt's Bees products and have any you think the world of let me know since I may want to try it.
Cheers!

I've been trying to switch over all my personal care products and based on another post tried some Burt's Bees products. However there were alot of things in the store that weren't on the gluten free list so I wrote and got an updated list. Here it is:

We don't use oatmeal shampoo but I thought I would relate our experiences. We have 3 dogs (15, 10 and 3 yrs old) so these events are not all at the same time.
My hands would get red and irritated using a high end hypoallergenic shampoo. I switched to Johnson's baby shampoo. Now when I pet my dogs, no reaction. My groomer said it was fine since dog's Ph levels are similar to humans. It is also no tears which is good for the dogs. I checked with Johnson's and Johnson's and they verified that it was gluten free so now I use it for myself also. I do tend to react (not a gluten reaction, just a sensitivity) to alot of chemicals that are in shampoos so have to be careful what I pick for myself and the dogs.
Our middle dog developed a skin allergy a few years ago. I thought it was a new dog treat (a dry treat that was to treat plaque on teeth). I discontinued that and it cleared up. (The vet had recommended the treat and did not think it was the cause but since discontinuing it worked I think it was.) We feed a raw, no grain dog food (Nature's Variety) so the likely hood of other allergens in the general food is greatly reduced.
Your vet may have a prescription to help the skin heal. I don't remember if our vet gave us something. However fish oil is good to help with dry itchy skin. We feed a pet store product but you can feed human product if you figure out the dosage.
Based on your post I think that your dog likely has a food allergy. Good luck figuring it out!

Hi,
I recently set out to replace all my personal care products to try and solve a dry flaking skin problem on my face. In my research I found the Dakota Free products on-line but no review of them so now that I have used some for a week I thought I would provide a review. I chose this line to try because of the short ingredients list with minimal chemicals, botanicals, herbs and food products. They also are gluten free.
Pure Prairie Soap - I have really liked this soap. At first I did not. It suds up very nicely but when you rinse it off it feels like there is a coating on your skin. You can even see the water bead up on the coating. However, after having used it a week my skin no longer itches when I go to bed at night and I don't have dry flaking skin on my legs nor do I feel like I need to put alot of lotion on.
Sophie Soap - This is a pump form of soap which I am using at my bathroom counter for my hands and to wash my face at night. You have to wet your face and then apply the soap for it to suds up so it is not like a facial cleanser. My hands are less dry and irritated than they were with my old product.
Baby Your Skin Balm - I bought both the No Lavender version of this and the Lavender version. I think I like the Lavender version better. It does not really have much smell but somehow it seems nicer. I like the product for hands, arms and legs but I think I will need to continue to look for something for my face. It is a fairly solid product in the jar and requires too much rubbing to put it on your face and that tends to irritate my skin. I have had some improvement with it but I also seem to be getting break outs. However I have to qualify this statement with I also tried the Gluten-Free Savonnerie massage oil on one half of my face one night and this lotion on the other half and the side with the massage oil seemed to have the worse break-outs.
Dishwashing liquid - I have used this product at my kitchen sink and it is very acceptable.
I also googled the ingredients list from my old products and it was very informative. It was a pain because the words are so long to type in but very informative so I recommend it to anyone who wants to know what is going on their skin.
My face is still dry and flaky so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know. My dermatologist recommends not using products with fruit, vegetables, flowers, herbs or food (like honey) so I am trying to find something very minimalistic.
Thanks!

Hi All,
I've been having trouble with my face skin so decided to switch out all my personal care products. I had some Johnson's baby shampoo that I use to shampoo my dogs. I tried it on myself and it worked great, even without conditioner. It doesn't sud so much since it doesn't have the chemicals that do that but I noticed that when I used it on my dogs I never had a reaction from petting them like I did with commercial dog shampoo. So I decided to confirm with the company that it was gluten free so I could use it on myself also.
Here is their response:
Thank you for contacting the Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies, Inc.
Information Center. It is always important to hear from our
consumers, and we appreciate the time you have taken to contact us.

Michelle,
I'll be interested to hear what you think of the Dakota Free products. I use their Moisturizing Lotion and have used their bar soap--both of them I like very much.
Another company you may want to check out is Andrea Rose. I love the facial moisturizing cream from them--it's perfect to use at night--all their products are gluten-free. I've spoken to the owner, and even the vitamin E they use is safe.

Patti,
Thanks for the referral. I will check them out.
I'm waiting a week before writing my review to let my skin detox from what I was using before and see how its reacting to the new products. Its dry, cold and sunny here. In addition I swim so it gets a big dose of chlorine. The end result is my skin often feels like sandpaper and is often bright red and splotchy.
Best,
Michelle

Sorry for posting 3 times but I thought I could save you some time. I also went to our local health food store which had a list of their gluten free personal care products. I thought their ingredients lists were too long and confusing. So with a little more research I ordered from an Internet company called Dakota Free. They also make the Gluten-Free Savonnerie products so if you find items on both web sites and call them to order you can order from both web sites with only one shipping fee. My order came over the weekend and I thought I'd use them for a week before posting a review. My skin has been very reactive and my dermatologist warned against getting something with too many botanicals, food product, herbs, flowers etc. in it.
Good luck!

I also sent Dove an e-mail. This is what they said:
Thanks for writing!
We do not specifically test our products for the presence of gluten, a
sticky protein found in some grains such as wheat. Gluten may be
present
in products that contain derivatives of wheat, oat, rye, and barley.
In labeling our products, our company follows the guidelines
established
by the International Nomenclature for Cosmetics; Ingredients (INCI)
process. Therefore, if we use an ingredient derived from a grain such
as
wheat, oat, rye, and/or barley, those names will appear on the label.
One common example is "Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein". If you see this on
the
label, the material was derived from wheat, so the product may contain
gluten.
Thank you for your interest!

I am going through this same thing. Here is the response I got from Neutrogena. They responded right away which was great. But I couldn't find any of these products that I was looking for in a Safeway, Walmart or Albertson's. I wasted a ton of time looking for a basic face lotion for night (no SPF) and basic shampoo and conditioner.
Thank you for contacting Neutrogena

I get sick from Udi's gluten free bread every time. Unfortunately I have eaten dozens of loaves because it is so good. I had to go cold turkey about a month ago as I was getting a low grade glutening every day. Since I went cold turkey only once or twice a reaction. One associated with a box of Van's waffles. The other I think was cc in my kitchen.
