  1. I actually was able to answer my own question. I found a link that says "If neither the baby nor the mother has confirmed celiac disease, the mother should continue to eat gluten, even if there is a history of celiac disease in the family, because there is a chance that exposure to gluten in breast milk will actually help the baby to develop a normal immune response to gluten."

  2. Hi Everyone,

    I do not have celiac disease, but my husband does. I read that it is important for me to eat gluten throughout the pregnancy to pass along my immunity to the baby, however I was unsure about what I should do once breastfeeding. I know not to introduce solid forms of gluten until 4-6 months, but should I follow a gluten free diet while breastfeeding? I haven't been able to find any research on this. It says mothers who have celiac disease should follow the diet, but nothing of mothers without celiac disease. Thanks!

  3. Maltodextrin is ok...According to glutenfreeliving.com,

    "Maltodextrin is gluten free. It can be made from a variety of starches, including corn, potato, rice or wheat. However the source does not matter because maltodextrin is such a highly processed ingredient that the protein is removed, rendering it gluten free. If wheat is used to make maltodextrin, "wheat" will be appear on the label. Even in this case, the maltodextrin would be gluten free." You can assume if it doesn't say "maltodextrin from wheat" that it isn't derived from wheat because they have to label it as such.

  4. I would suggest shirataki noodles instead of pasta. They are 1-2 points per bag and add up to 2-3 servings of cooked pasta. They taste funny if you don't rinse them thoroughly, but if you use a good sauce, you can't tell the difference in texture or taste!

  5. My husband and I went to Iron Hill Brewery on Sunday in Maple Shade, NJ. It was fantastic! The menu had over 40 gluten free items and was very comprehensive. The even served Redbridge. I can't wait to go back because the food was outstanding!

  6. Mr. Ritts Bakery in Millvile NJ is where I am getting mine. It costs 2-3 dollars per serving and you get the layers frozen. He will not frost it for you, but a friend is doing that the day of the wedding for me. There is another place in Bridgeton NJ called Lily (I think) but the cake is 14 dollars per head...yikes! The cakes are beautiful though.

  7. My fiance and his neice are the ones who actually have Celiac disease. Last week, the two of them challenged me to eat gluten free for a month. It's only been 74 hours and I've had glutening dreams for the past 2 nights. I had a sandwich the first night and beer the second. I guess it's just the mind's way of keeping you on track.

    We're in Vineland too. Have you tried Conte's Gluten free Pasta? We are using Conte's for the Pasta dish in our wedding in August. No one will be able to tell it's gluten free!

  9. My boyfriend and I have been going here for months. One of the owners has celiac's disease, so they are very careful with preparation. The chef is also fabulous! To top it all off, I have never had such service in all my life. If you tip well the first time you go, they remember your face and treat you like gluten free royalty.
