  1. I think you'll be surprised by how much candy they CAN have. We usually just split it into 3 piles when we get home - stuff Kiddo can eat, stuff mom and dad can eat, and stuff no one wants. I always end up throwing most of Kiddo's away eventually any way. I always let him pick out what we hand out and make sure it is gluten-free. I always buy too much...
  2. We don't do blizzards, but we do do sundaes, cups, and even take in our own cones. Ours is great about filling our cones with the ice cream. Funny story though...a couple weeks a go we ordered a banana split and I gave the usual info about not laying the banana down directly on the counter (the prep counter usually has a few blizzard crumbs and I never...
  3. I looked up Greens First (because I was really curious) and didn't see barley listed in their ingredients. But I'm tired, so I might have missed it... Why I was looking - there is a difference between barley grass and the barley we all think of as being gluten. Barley grass is the plant...the green part. The barley seed/grain is where the protein and...
  4. I know Disney has us spoiled...We'll see how this adventure turns out...
  5. We tried the gluten-free licorice from Gimbal's. They are called "Scottie Dogs" and come in both red and black, but we only tried the red. Love it! Love it! Love it! They are 100% LICORICE! Oh are they fantastic! We have a gluten-free household, so despite not needing to eat gluten-free, we all do. Licorice was something I missed having around the...
  6. I buy quite of few of our staples from amazon. Their subscribe and save program makes their good prices even better. I buy things like spaghetti pasta, cereals, cake mixes, nut and other snack bars, soup, fruit leather, Boulder Canyon potato chips, Bob's Red Mill flours, etc. I buy direct from Ener-G for things I like of theirs.
  7. I actually switched to blocks of cheese and shredding our own after using some on a pizza and my family raving about how it was the best pizza ever. I haven't bought pre-shredded stuff for anything since! I've experimented with a few local brands to find the ones we like best for things like pizza and tacos. Who knew it could make that huge of a difference...
  8. We throw ALL birthday parties gluten free - that's cake, cookies, meal, EVERYTHING. I am 100% in favor of the birthday child being able to eat whatever is served. Everyone else is there to celebrate the child's day. We even threw my grandmother's 80th birthday party with over 50 people gluten free just because my mom was hosting and my son (the only celiac...
  9. As of June 2, 2011: Although not a huge list, there are at least a few options for eating while at Busch Stadium in St. Louis... The numbers after the food below is the section things are located in. Gluten Free Items Beef Brisket (no sauce or bun) 509 Bratwurst (no bun) Grilled Chicken (no bun) 139, 161, 446, 264, 266 Hamburger/Cheeseburger (no...
  10. I emailed them back asking about pieces of fruit or bags of chips and the response I got was that they were unaware of any places selling either. I am so very unimpressed with them. I know we're spoiled by Disney, but come on - a piece of fruit??!?!? Is that too much to ask for? We will be coolering it a lot for that trip. I did find New Day Gluten Free...
  11. I know! My first reaction was not to go. But then the other side kicked in...my son was invited by a friend to go and he is REALLY excited about it. I don't want him to miss out of being a kid just because he has celiac. So we'll find a way to make it work. It's actually a 3 day 2 night trip. I haven't had much luck finding places to eat, so I'm a little...
  12. I received the email below in response to an iquiry about gluten-free options at the Six Flags St. Louis park. Thank you for your interest in Six Flags St. Louis. We do not have any gluten free products in the park, but I have included a list of the areas in the park that have gluten in the food, so that you will better know where you are able to...
  13. Thank you! I'm finding it very hard to find places for us eat.
  14. I've seen several posts over the years for people wanting a substitute for goldfish crackers. We just tried Schar's Cheese Bites. I think they are a great substitute! They aren't quite as salty, and they're a little bigger. They come in different shapes (nice for the kiddos). They weren't cheap, but I will definitely buy them again. My son loved them...
  15. OK, these sprinkles have become the joke of our house. I keep walking past them in the kitchen and huffing. I didn't realize I was doing it until my hubby said, "You should just move them somewhere else." I agreed, but didn't do anything about them. Now they've disappeared. I have no idea where they went and I'm not going to try to find them! Ravenwoodglass...
  16. I know! I'm so irritated - one with myself for not checking the label before shelling out $17 for stupid sprikles. It was a late night purchase. Kiddo's birthday is coming up and I'm making cake pops. I really wanted to decorate them with sprinkles. I kept looking locally for just one package. Then late one night I decided to just buy them. I figured...
  17. I bought a case of Let's Do Sprinklez from amazon because I couldn't find any sprinkles I was comfortable with. They just came and I noticed they have barley grass powder. I know barley grass is technically gluten-free because the protein is in the grain, but the risk of cross contamination seems really high. Does anyone use these??
  18. I ran into the same thing. Their bulk package is packaged in a gluten free facility, but the online reviews weren't very favorable for it vs. the smaller package. I'm about 1/2 way through the package we bought and haven't had any adverse reaction.
  19. My son loves a veggie dip that he dips tortilla chips in. It's: Tomatoes Cucumbers Bell pepper (we like orange or yellow) Cheese (you could use a cheese alternative) Green Goddess salad dressing I know you said she does like tomatoes, so you could probably sub some other veggie. The original recipe I got had onions instead of cucumbers, but we...
  20. I should add that the Fruitabu are not "fruit snacks"...they just satisfy a similar craving - chewy, gooey, fruity.
  21. They are yummy! Kind Bars are a little less crunchy if you want that. Their yogurt covered fruit and nut bars are very addicting!!
  22. I don't know about casein free, but my son had them a couple years ago and didn't have any gluten reaction. They were very yummy and a little healthier than other fruit snacks. If they aren't dairy free, check out Fruitabu products. They are pure fruit.
  23. Orange roughy - spray frozen fish with Pam, sprinkle with Lawry's seasoning salt and grill. This is my quick go-to grill food. Baked cod - brush frozen cod with melted butter, quickly sprinkle liberally with bread crumbs, and bake. Tilapia - pan sear in butter and sprinkle with sea salt.
  24. I LOVE Pamela's chocolate chunk...since they're technically my son's (I don't have Celiac), I think that's a good testimonial. I also love Glutino's chocolate wafer cookies. My son doesn't like baked goods as much as I do, so unfortunately when I buy them "for him" I am usually the one to eat most of them!
  25. Just to give you more to contemplate...my son's symptoms from glutening don't show up for 3 days...it's a pain because you don't know what triggered it, but we had 2 episodes where we knew exactly when he ingested the gluten and it helped us figure out glutenings for us are a week long progress. He goes through extremem fatigue, emotional mayhem, then cramps...
