  1. We went to a local catered banquet that might be similar to having to deal with a prom dinner. I contacted the caterer and asked if I could supply them with a plate to be served with everyone else's. They were more than happy to do so. I just slipped it in the kitchen and talked to the head caterer at the event and told them where my son was sitting. ...
  2. Science Diet Adult Sensitive Stomach Dry is gluten-free Prescription Science Diet Gastrointestinal Health Canned is gluten-free, but you have to get it from a vet and it isn't cheap
  3. This is not the case in the US. There is no labeling law for gluten free. It is up to the company to decide what they consider Gluten Free and how they want to label it. The law has been hung up on the definition of what gluten free is (a PPM threshold). So although a gluten free label is reassuring, it does not guarantee any testing has been done. ...
  4. Tacos La Choy Chow Mein - seriously unhealthy, but very convenient Popovers - although not fast to bake, fast to make and easy Oatmeal
  5. OK, I clearly need to edit my response! I had no idea there were that disgusting of microwaves out there...of course I wouldn't be using them because of the general health factor; forget about gluten being a problem! Definitely don't lick those bad boys!!
  6. You can put all kinds of things in your checked baggage. The only things you can NOT put in your CARRY ON baggage are liquids or gels (except small containers that are then put in a quart ziploc bag). We've taken frozen food (bread, cookies, Amy's mac & cheese) with freezer packs in soft sided cooler things (8.5 x 11 pyrex insulated cooler is what we...
  7. If your food is on a plate with something covering it, I can't see any way that using a microwave that has had gluten in it could possibly be a problem. Don't lick the microwave and you'll be fine! Same goes for the oven. Don't put your gluten free pizza directly on the oven rack - put it (or whatever you're baking) on a clean proper baking pan...
  8. Don't fret, there are PLENTY of absolutely delicious gluten-free options out there! Kinnikinnick, Pamela's, Betty Crocker all make good mixes for cakes and brownies. This bread is fantastic: Open Original Shared Link PB Cookies: 1 C. peanut butter 1 C. sugar 1 egg 1 tsp. vanilla Stir up in a bowl, roll into 1 inch balls. Place cookie balls...
  9. Not sure on the gluten-free. You're not eating them, and they aren't getting anything on your hands to be transferred to your mouth. I think they work wonders. They do stick really strongly. I usually wet mine before pulling off so as not to pull the skin too much - in the shower is perfect.
  10. I like Jestgar's idea! I would probably lean toward a response of "No, rude is being so insistent that I poison myself in front of you." I'm so sorry. I wish you could swing by my house and I'd give you a big plate of gluten-free cookies!!!
  11. Get the recipe and let's try it out! I wouldn't give the cookies to your daughter, but I'd love to try the recipe!
  12. Frito Lay BBQ recently changed their recipe to include wheat, I believe. Ditto on missing the barley malt on the cereals.
  13. We just had a party this weekend with all gluten-free items and no special ingredients. Here's what we had. Let me know if you want any of the recipes. PB cookies with kisses (same as your recipe except with 1 tsp vanilla also) Meringue cookies (some plain, some with candy canes crushed on top) Brownie bites (made in mini-muffin tin) - and oops, these...
  14. Oh, and we like Ancient Harvest Quinoa pasta and Tinkyada. Your two favorites (pizza and pasta) are actually two really easy things to do gluten free!
  15. When you're up for it, here is amazing pizza. It's really very easy to do - my 11 year old can make it. You just have to have the ingredients on hand. I make it every weekend for our pizza and movie night. PIZZA CRUST INGREDIENTS: 1 Tbs dry yeast 1/2 tsp of sugar 2/3 cup of warm water 2/3 cups of brown rice flour 1/2 cup of tapioca flour...
  16. Wrigley's gums are gluten-free. I believe most gums are, but we use Wrigley's and I've called them myself.
  17. snacks - Pudding cups Betty Crocker fruit snacks Stretch Island Fruit leather Cliff Kids fruit twists Kind bars Lara bars Boulder potato chips A lot of microwave popcorn Pirate's Booty Crunch N Munch carmel corn Homemade PB cookies - the kind made without any flour are cheap and easy T Marzetti carmel dip and apples T Marzetti ranch dip and...
  18. I contacted Amy's awhile back specifically about their enchilada packaging. I was told that they switched to the "no gluten ingredients" when the legal definition of "gluten free" was hot and heavy but the level wasn't set and the law wasn't written. They said they didn't want to get stuck with a bunch of packages they couldn't use if the law had something...
  19. I've seen posts about others who specifically did NOT want an official diagnosis on their record for future insurance purposes. As we move to the scary world of nationalized healthcare, I think there's a good case for not getting the official diagnosis. As for school, we've never had any problem with the schools we've been at. No one has ever asked...
  20. I've been pleasantly surprised lately at the number of gluten free snack items I'm seeing at airports. I still wouldn't feel comfortable relying on them, but you might get lucky and find things like Yoplait yogurt, fresh fruit, Kind bars, nuts, etc. You'll still pay airport prices and they aren't a meal, but at least it's something. Also, I recently flew...
  21. My understanding is that there are two ELISA tests out there - one tests to 20 PPM and the other 5 PPM. By stating that a product tests below 20 PPM it isn't saying that it has 19 PPM. It could very well have 0, but the test only states results as less than a certain threshold. My understanding is also that the 5 PPM test is more expensive than the 20...
  22. How rude! For others that can't find gluten-free at their Wal-Mart...ours is very odd. There's a gluten-free section in the aisle that has jelly, PB, salad dressings and bulk food items. It's not huge, but it does have some good items (Tinkyada pasta, Annie's mac & cheese, a couple of Pamela's cookies varieties, etc.). In addition, there are frozen...
  23. Betty Crocker fruit roll ups and fruit sancks. Pudding cups - they're gluten free, not sure on the rest Rice crispie treats with you subbing gluten-free version
  24. We use self hardening (non-firing) clay that I get from the hobby store regularly. I'd just look at the package and see if it lists anything other than "clay." Here's a website that talks about clay ingredients: Open Original Shared Link
  25. I try to go with the flow and not rock the boat, but this would make me REALLY uncomfortable. At that age I would think flour is going to be everywhere. If it were me I would not have my child in the classroom again until after the room had been thoroughly cleaned and all tables wiped down. I think airborn flour would be an issue. Kids are going to make...
