  1. I've noticed the same thing. Sometimes it seems dried out or not quite as fresh. I thought maybe it was due to the handling at our natural food store and was going to try ordering it direct (it wasn't any more expensive than what the local store is charging).
  2. I just saw that Amazon has their Ener-G pretzels half off. Twenty 2.65 ounce bags for $19.75 and eligible for free shipping. I thought of your crunch craving!
  3. Check out Amazon. You can buy Glutino pretzels in bulk. You can get many of their items in bulk with free shipping and if you do their subscriptions you even get 15% off. We use the subscriptions for many items. You can cancel anytime (even after just one shipment), so there's no "risk" or getting sucked into too much. Nut Thins, Schar, and Glutino...
  4. Making sure you're getting enough fiber.
  5. I was going to say the same thing...or help your current boss and best friend break into the gluten free market. It's a perfect fit!!
  6. OK, that makes sense! One being just meat water and the other being meat water with flavoring! Thanks for pointing that out. Guess now I can keep my record of never disagreeing with Roger!
  7. It is completely you and your husband's decision. I wouldn't let the fear of having another child with Celiac affect your decision. I will say that I think your mom is right that having one is easier. But that's not just with Celiac in the mix. We have one child and I admit frequently that we have it pretty easy. It's much easier to stay dialed in to...
  8. We love Udi's. And I just checked their online price (with shipping) versus our local health food store and the price was the same. You do have to buy a bunch (8 I think) of loaves at the same time to make the shipping work out. If you don't have it locally anywhere, I'd just order it in bulk. It's frozen and keeps very well. For mixes, we like Gluten...
  9. I'm going to do something I very rarely do...disagree with Roger! I would caution you to watch stocks. I was buying the same beef broth (OK, not techinically stock, but close enough) and they started adding wheat to it a few months ago. It was Wal-Mart's store brand. I know it's only one example, but one is enough to make me cautious. As for your...
  10. Us too. Especially in the early months after diagnosis. It really helps with kiddo's lunches. I can plan things like pancakes Sunday morning and make a couple extra that become PB&J on pancakes for Monday's school lunch. Or a whole roasted chicken with a side of rice that become a lunchbox thermos meal of chicke with rice and gravy. Or pot roast...
  11. Here are the conversions: 1 Tbs dry yeast 2/3 cups of brown rice flour 1/2 cup of tapioca flour This is the BEST pizza crust. My son's best friend (10 years old) prefers this crust to any other (and he's not a Celiac!). We cut the Italian seasoning way back in ours (about 1/2 - 1 teaspoon instead of the tablespoon). You can make up your own "mixes...
  12. Maybe I'm in a mood here, but I guess I might come back with: Do you know how ignorant you sound right now? I doubt there's anything I can say that would help you understand, so you just worry about your health and I'll worry about mine. Of course that might just be my mood right now...I'm sure others have better, more civil answers. But seriously...
  13. We just explain that due to food allergies there will not be any available food items. As long as you're not bringing in Pepsi when they sell Pepsi or a whole cooler full of food I think most places would be understanding. You may have to ask to speak to a supervisor, but you have a legitimate health issue.
  14. Below is an email I received today, Feb. 16, 2010 from Quaker regarding their LARGE rice cakes. We understand your need for gluten free products, so I
  15. Since she's just two...is your house gluten-free including things like dog or cat food? Since she's toddling around on the floor is it possible she is getting into crumbs from the dog's food or even from gluten things you and your wife eat? I'd keep that food journal going daily and look for some sort of trend. Do you use a strainer with pasta regularly...
  16. Here are some lunch ideas... Hard boiled eggs/deviled eggs tuna fish salad with chips (use the tuna salad like a dip for the chips) fried rice (from left over rice) stew (from left over pot roast and veggies) mac & cheese (Amy's frozen) For that matter, any of Amy's frozen dinners PB&J on pancakes (great for leftover pancakes) canned turkey...
  17. Sounds like you're on the road to recovery! Many people experience heavy eating and hunger right after going gluten-free. I've seen it explained as the "catch up" phase where your body is finally getting what it needs and recovering. For my son it lasted a couple months and was accompanied by a huge growth spurt. Then he leveled off and took on a more...
  18. We use it and haven't noticed anything bad.
  19. There's another post going started Feb. 14 saying wheat was listed on the ingredients of theirs...
  20. Funny pizza story sort of on topic... For the last 2 years my son's best friend has raved to his mom about my gluten-free pizza. He's even told her to get the recipe. She always chuckled commenting that she knew the ingredients weren't in her pantry. Well a couple weeks ago she began converting her family to gluten-free. She's had classic Celiac symptoms...
  21. OK, I'm not the Celiac in the family, but I can give you my 2 cents... Of course, having a healthy son, but you already knew that! I truly enjoy my time in the kitchen with and without my son. With - watching him grow and learn to feed himself is incredible. Just tonight he got his first minor burn. Instead of it being traumatic I saw it as an...
  22. Can't wait to hear the rest of your story! I'm going to copy your post and file it away for my son...he's 10 now, but someday he's going to thank you!!!
  23. Udi's bread is fantastic. It tastes very close to gluten bread. Pamela's chocolate chunk cookies are my favorite Nutthins crackers are very good - try a couple different kinds because they vary greatly. My son loves the cheddar (which are just "OK" to me). I love the smoked almond (which my son doesn't care for at all). Pamela's pancake mix is excellent...
  24. I didn't read all the replies, so sorry if there are duplicates here. Hard boiled eggs/deviled eggs tuna fish salad with chips (use the tuna salad like a dip for the chips) fried rice (from left over rice) stew (from left over pot roast and veggies) mac & cheese (Amy's frozen) For that matter, any of Amy's frozen dinners PB&J on pancakes...
