  1. I wonder what to do about other allergens? I am allergic to soy too... b/c of that I am always afraid of the gluten-free stuff at Dland. I go there frequently and haven't bought anything besides an apple and pineapple spear!

  2. Well, since I've only been gluten free for five months now I haven't tried a lot of gluten free products, but here goes...

    Hemp Milk -Pacific Foods

Almond Dream - after three days of drinking this, I noticed it right away. The Pacific Hemp Milk took a little longer. I was having such a mild reaction to it, but when I stopped drinking it I felt better.

Synthriod - I got a new prescription filled & started to feel very sick. After two weeks of taking it I was losing more weight, couldn't eat & had many other symptoms. I realized it was the medicine. A month after stopping it, I gained all of my ten pounds that I lost back! I wonder if the synthriod was bothering me the whole time I was gluten free. :o My doctors changed me to Levoxly & I'm not 100 % yet, but I'm doing So much better.

    Rice Chex Strawberry & Cinnamon

    So Delicious Kieffer Coconut Milk

I have to say I do love Glutino! When I eat anything processed I stick with products that aren't made on shared lines. I just don't trust them & it's not worth getting sick over!

    So Delicious Kefir Coconut Milk?

Oh no... I've been eating it and it's in my fridge..... what flavor did you get? I have the plain.. I don't think it was affecting me? Oh boy.

  3. I just switched from unithroid to synhroid 25 mcg. I haven't been feeling that well lately, and it didn't even cross my mind it could be from that. I know armour is gluten free...but that is pretty hard to get a script for, and I hear it's on backorder. I would love to know what you come up with :)

Yeah, I have had a hard time getting armour too. My doctor and I use a compounding pharmacy now - they make the pills especially for me, so nice! I get the slow release tablets, so I only take one in the morning. This has been SOOO nice because I don't have to worry about when I am having late lunch (because you can't take it around food).

  4. Woop woop de doo! Sprinkles is gonna have cupcakes for us on Monday!!! :D:P:ph34r:

I had one! DELICIOUS. The only gluten-free flavor is Red Velvet. It melts in your mouth! And they know all about 'wrapping it separate' from other cupcakes too, and will give you a list of the flour ingredients if you ask. There is NO SOY in the gluten-free cupcake, but there is in the vegan. They come with a "G" and a "V" decorative candy on top! They go get it from the back for you and are super helpful :)

    I highly recommend!!

  5. I personally wouldn't go back to Pizza Fusion. I went to the San Diego location. The pizza was mediocre. It was made with Bob's Red Mill and you could tell it WAS gluten free - very bean tasting. The whole pizza was not tasty at all - it totally lacked flavor. It was also a $30 pizza - which is RIDICULOUS. I am not going back. I can seriously make a pizza 20X better at home.

  6. I actually either read this somewhere, or saw it on the news. I was so excited. I used to work in Needham, MA and go their all of the time before my Dx. Can't wait to go back now!!!

I just ate here with my mother yesterday. She ordered their 2 for combo with chicken and rice soup + small chicken caesar salad. I ordered a caesar salad DRY (no dressing, I am allergic to soy too) with the sharp cheddar cheese, carrots, cucumbers and chicken. We told the girl taking our order that we are gluten free and are ordering from the gluten free menu. We requested no croutons and NO bread on the side.

The order came to our table while my mom was using the restroom. The man put our dishes in front of me and there were HUGE hunks of bread on the side. I was so shocked I didn't know what to do. My mom returned and she was shocked as well and took our orders back up (we obviously could NOT eat that) and the man was very reassuring and apologized and said he would make us a new order. He did and brought it to our table, new salads with no croutons and no bread. Perfect. Then my mom tried to eat a bite of her soup but stirred it up and noticed A NOOODLE in the soup. Chicken and rice on the gluten-free soup menu - this is not what should happen! She ended up NOT eating the soup and sharing my salad with me (which was large). We didn't even bother going up for a refund or to tell the manager about the soup.

I might eat there again, and be VERY clear next time, but the education about gluten-free is strangely missing since they advertise it everywhere on the website and at each location.

Just thought you all should know!

  7. Glutino is by far the best in my opinion. they have the wafer cookies and some oreo copies the. i dont know the soy status on any of their products though. sorry!

pamela's are also very good. the chocolate chip and dark chocolate and butter cookies are my favorites. they are all a little on the dry side as far as cookies go but for me the flavor was good enough i didnt mind a little dry feeling

i like kinnikinnik graham crackers. good texture and very yummy. they make a good cheesecake crust too! and their k-toos are good but those are a strange cookie. they dont really taste like anything. just sweet enough to curb a sweet craving. kinnikinnik oreo copies are probably my favorite gluten free packaged cookies. if those are soy free they are by far my first recommendation!

I hear alot of good things about kinnikinic but unfortunately they have soy in their products.. :(

  8. OK, my son is the Celiac and I'm the baked goods lover (and not a Celiac). Here are my favorites (yes, I LOVE gluten-free cookies!):

    Premade:

Pamela's Chocolate Chunk (actually I like most Pamela's, and the ones I don't like are because I don't like that type of cookie, having nothing to do with it being gluten free) We buy these by the case from Amazon and they never last long enought!

    Glutino Wafer Cookies

Whole Foods Frozen Molasses (and my son loves the raisin nutmeal ones)

    Apple's Bakery Molasses Gems

    Mix:

    Gluten Free Sensations

Whole Foods 365 Days gluten-free Chocolate Chip Cookies

I know you asked about cookies, but also French Bakery has great frozen brownies.

    Enjoy your cookies!

Thank you for all the suggestions!! I've never heard of Apple Bakery... and do you mean French MEADOW Bakery?

  9. I use Spectrum Organic too... and I always keep it in my pantry.

I absolutely love love love Coconut Oil :)

    be well!!

Coconut oil is amazing! I use it for everything. Read what Dr. Mercola has to say about it, that should explain it all. It is super healthy :D I bake with it, stir fry with it and do anything with it that you would normal oil. It's a GREAT butter substitute, especially for those of us watching our dairy intake.

I use Spectrum coconut oil, too. The quality of their products is great, organic too!

  10. I just made this recipe today:

    Open Original Shared Link

because I heard that it was really good and low and behold the bread fell as soon as I took it out of the oven! :( Have any of you experienced this? What did you do wrong and how did you fix it? I've heard that it's everything from too much liquid in a recipe, to too much rising time..

  11. Here is an email I got back, I just thought I would pass it along to everyone :):

    "Nutrifoodie,

The only teas that have soy are a few of our Truffle teas. In regards to gluten, although none of our blends contain wheat, rye, barley or oats, and the tea itself is gluten free, our teas may be processed in a facility that also processes gluten products, opening up the risk for cross contamination.

I will see what I can do about natural spices, but according to our QA person, the natural spices are actually the essence of spices. He doesn

  12. Soy gives me backache and stomach discomfort. It is getting better since I started the Specific Carb Diet(SCD) but then soy is one of the things that is not permitted on the diet for the very reason that a lot are intolerant of it.

Processed soy stuff is pretty evil. The Japanese eat a lot of it but they have it fresh and fermented in the way of miso, tempeh and tofu. We just have it 'mucked about with'!

I also find it VERY mucous-forming.

I see this all the time on here - people asking about intolerances to other foods - it is so common I wish we could put a banner at the top of the page to just direct people straight to the SCD. It would cut all those constant unrelenting questions from those who just don't know where to turn!

Whilst there are a few that may get better after dropping gluten, by far the majority don't, or improve a little then get stuck or even go backwards. Gut dysbiosis and rogue bacteria in the digestive tract, whilst initially knocked back after their gluten food source is removed soon transfer and adapt to new ones like soy, or corn and come back with a vengeance.

We've all been there. The SCD, by removing the long-chain carbs that feed them helps get them under control and encourages the body to heal. Much of the gluten-free foods out there just keep the damage going - it is only by removing it all that we stand any chance of recovering properly.

There is a lot of testimented evidence that the SCD works and those of us on here who are following are gradually getting better. Check out the SCD thread on this section and for more info 'breaking the vicious cycle' and 'Pecanbread' are the best sites about the diet itself and why it works.

Being allergic to soy is hard.

I get very uncomfortable, make me feel wicked sick, gastro/intenstine symptoms.

    and I feel like crap.

lol. being soy free is so nice though

  13. Hi there!

I am moving to France in a few months and I have printed my resturant card and am learning French etc. But, i have trouble even identifying hidden gluten in English-- where could I find a list of thinGS like -- malt flavoriing etc. in French so that I wont be glutened? Will it be difficult or easy to find gluten free products? Do they have to label any possible cross contaimination, like "made in the same facility as...". Any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated. I will only be hitting the 5 month mark for gluten-free, so its really important that I continue my progress.

    THANKS!

Wow, moving to France! Have fun.

The only thing I can think of is really learn the hidden ingredients of gluten in English. Search the web, read up and educate yourself.. then as you are learning French you'll be sure to know those words, and soon you will be able to effortlessly detect gluten in English and French.

And you let us all over to your house for dinner if we ever vacation in France.

    :D

    haha, just kidding

I know that wasn't much help, but good luck!

  14. The stress of celiac disease definitely unbalances your body, hormones included. All I can think is that as long as we are eating the right diet, the hormones should be (gradually) returning to their correct levels, as far as they are able to. But then again, it is possible too that there has been some actual damage in the body's regulating system, and it will take more time and work before things settle back.

it seems strange that for you, nutrifoodie, they seem to have got worse initially. I hope this is only a part of the healing process, and not a longer term problem. It's odd, because I remember reading that absent periods were more likely to be related to hyperthyroidism than hypo.

I have to say no about the hyperthyroid.

I definitely have HYPOthyroid, that wasn't what I was hinting at.

My point was that after going gluten free my hormones started changing. Amenorhea is connected to hypothyroidism, as well, so that's why I mentioned that.

Sorry if that was confusing, you can message me if you wish to clarify.
