  1. My two cents. In the beginning (especially), don't eat ANY foods that are clearly marked "made in a facility that shares....". If you don't, you're only guessing that these foods aren't the problem. Then, you can add them in one at a time if you like. I was diagnosed about 8 years ago and I still won't eat these foods. There are other choices and...
  2. My discovering this was about 15 years after I first had symptoms of a food allergy. It started with banana and fresh orange, both made my mouth sensitive and my tongue swollen a bit. It wasn't critical, but noticiable. Then it went to colored bell peppers, except for green. Even cooked. Ultimately, the final straw was watermelon closing my airway enough...
  3. I might be able to help with this. I ate fresh fruits and veggies all of my life until I had a reaction to watermelon and bell pepper. My mouth got itchy and my voice got hoarse (airway closing). This didn't happen until my 20's. Ultimately, I was diagnosed with OAS or Oral Allergy Syndrome, which essentially is an allergy to a PROTEIN in many foods...
  4. I'm probably the biggest advocate of Chipotle there is, but that doesn't mean they can ever be perfect. I've been enjoying their food since they opened about 15 years ago, the last 5 being since I was diagnosed with Celiac. My experience is that the CO run stores are cleaner and better run overall. This may be part of the problem. Since the OP...
  5. Ditto- I'm very sensitive and have no problems with their regular pepperoni. One thing, their turkey pepperoni and I don't agree, but sometimes other turkey products bother me....maybe that's something that affects you too?
  6. You DO know that you can be c/c'd, without symptoms, and can still be causing damage to your intestines, right? Yes, I'm sure I'm consuming gluten in trace amounts, whether I want to or not. But, to lessen the opportunities that gluten is killing me from the insides/out, I'll take every opportunity to NOT consume foods that are disclosed "may have been...
  7. Count me in as one that says I don't eat food "processed in a factory that also processes wheat...." Interestingly, Trader Joe's is coming to CO soon. Now I know to read every label...which I do anyway.
  8. Although I disagree that "dedicated facilities don't make a difference", I do agree that Kraft is one of the few companies I trust through and through. Also, if you haven't tried it, their pre-made cheesecake filling is to die for. Make a cheesecake in 3 minutes! (I use crushed cookies, sometimes mixed and baked with fruit jam, as the base).
  9. There's another Hawaii thread on here I replied to, look there too. No worries about traveling to the Islands. I'm celiac and have been several times after being diagnosed (family there). There are many options to help you, including eating out, but I would recommend shopping at the grocery stores (stand by brands like Hormel are available), health...
  10. FYI, Chipotle is a better choice (watch out for cc obviously). Their chips are fine, as is everything else, except for the flour tortilla. I eat there at least once per week (for years), never a reaction and I'm very sensitive.
  11. I took my daughter to one for a "regular" meal. While there I asked about their gluten-free policies and I got a completely blank stare in return. No Thanks!
  12. Just my two cents: I do think being in a heavily "infested" wheat harvest area may be an issue. I live in Denver and it's often windy here too, you can see the dirt and pollen being blown for miles. Remember, you have to INGEST the wheat to cause your Gastro symptoms, not simply "be around it". If it's that busy of an Agricultural area, this may be fairly...
