  1. I quit dairy a year and a half ago in hopes of managing Asperger's. I think it was pretty successful, but allergies shot up to the point that I was showing signs of minor asthma, and I also started getting a bit hunchbacked, a lot like older ladies with osteoporosis. I had tried to develop a taste for kale, which most likely would have helped with both problems...
  2. No reply yet, but further Internet searches indicate that the company makes all their products from reclaimed wood fibers. So most likely it's gluten-free (knock on wood).
  3. Fresh Step is messing with my breathing (and the kitty's), so I've been trying to find a hypoallergenic kitty litter, preferably one that won't kill me. Tried World's Best (corn) but the Monkey just kept trying to eat it. Healthy Pet is actually starting to work out, but as they say it's all from vegetable sources (but won't say which) I'm more than a little...
  4. Some suggestions from the Mayo Clinic: Open Original Shared Link
  5. Most people just assume I was dropped on my head as a baby. (Ducking, running away)
  6. On the return, return trip, I had no gluten problems of any kind, but unfortunately the burger was overcooked and the fries were freezer-burned. So with all the good wishes in the world toward Red Robin for the scrupulousness of their gluten-free menu, I'm done with them because of the squirreliness of the cooking in general. Or maybe my own cooking just...
  7. Subsequent experimentation shows that it's better to use a pan of hot water, rather than warm, for the wrappers. (Or in other words, just follow package directions. (Where's that "blush" smilie?)) And I might have specified that best results come from using a pizza cutter for cutting each into four parts. Later when they've cooled completely, they are...
  8. I broke down and called. Unfortunately, they use rice noodles with wheat in them. A rare bonehead move from Bonefish Grill. So, no, Bonefish Grill's wild shrimp pad thai isn't gluten free. Bummerino.
  9. Nowadays, they meet at 6:30 at Lexington Medical Center, North Tower, classroom #3, W Columbia, SC, at least in the odd-numbered months. On even-numbered months they meet at area restaurants; next one is June 21st at 6 at Z Pizza on Gervais. Still the 3d Monday of the month, either way (6:30 at LMC, 6 at restaurants). Contact information given previously...
  10. It isn't on the gluten-free menu, or at least the one online, presumably because it's a temporary item. However, pad thai should be inherently gluten-free, and Bonefish Grill is a pretty good outfit. Any thoughts, observations or preferably experiences with this dish?
  11. Please note the edit: that should have been (and now is) two TABLESPOONS of honey, not two cups. Whew!
  12. This started because I had some spring roll wrappers left over, and also almonds, honey and olive oil. I tried making it in layers, like baklava and it was a fiasco, if tasty. So I bought more wrappers and tried again, doing it this time pot-sticker style, and the fiasco went a little better, but the wrappers were still too chewy. So on the third try (or...
  13. I doubt she could do much damage. There's now two foam rubber pads underneath for her to go to town on. On the top of the bed, she prefers kneading on me. But if she really really wants to go to war on the futon, she's welcome. So far she prefers lying on it.
  14. As I've mentioned here and there, I've been having continuing and annoying problems with pins and needles in the hands and feet. The pins and needles of old gluten-eating vitamin B-12 depleted days wandered all over the place; this is something different. I'm not sure, but it may be that it's due to a vitamin E deficiency. I had quit my multivitamin and for...
  15. If you had December 8/December 9 in the When Will John's Second Air Mattress Bite The Dust betting pool, you win! It would have lasted longer, but I got cold, and so bought a bed frame to get off the floor. I'm not a total idiot, so I put another foam rubber mattress pad under the air mattress. Unfortunately, the kitty decided that tearing out chunks from...
  16. Now a reply to myself just to say: MAN I'm an idiot. As I remarked in the OP, I've been eating guacamole with practically every meal and coconut with 2 out of 3 meals (all but breakfast, in other words). Our vocabulary words for the day are vasoconstrictor and vasodilator; they mean a substance that constricts or opens, respectively, your blood vessels, be...
  17. Welcome to the board! By all means, try reverse-osmosis purified water, and I hope it turns out well for you and for your cats. But again I must mention that I'm no doctor, nutritionist or dietitian. It's something worth trying, but nothing I can guarantee. You might not see any changes in yourself for a month or more, but your cats ought to be more energetic...
  18. I didn't mention aspergillus as I don't even know what that is (but hope I don't have it). What I have is Asperger's syndrome, meaning that I'm mildly autistic. Gluten-free casein-free soy-free seems to be helping, however. Good luck defeating your current infection; hope it passes quickly.
  19. 4 ppm is the maximum level permissible. I think most systems aim for something less than half of that. Yes, it's all very confusing. Here's where you find whether or not your system's fluoridated: Open Original Shared Link Apologies if you've already seen this.
  20. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm doing so much better on what I call prison food (cup of protein, cup of starch, two cups of vegetables) that I'll probably stick with that for a while. Also have started exercising again (one of your earlier suggestions) to my great joy. I had quit when I couldn't stop losing weight; I seem to have stabilized now (knock on wood...
  21. For the 10 or 20 years before I quit gluten, I had wandering paresthesia (pins & needles), which went away after gluten freedom. This is different, confined to the hands and feet, and only starting in July. The other thing I did in July but which I didn't mention in the long post (except in my sig line) was the great increase in vegetable consumption...
  22. City does add fluoride Open Original Shared Link Sodium Fluorosilicate, just like Mom used to make. If I'm sensitive to fluoride, as I suspect, any would be a problem. If it's lead or arsenic or something, as I fear, well, we have a load of other problems in my neighborhood or at least at my address.
  23. I haven't done. As this is the city's old mill town, it also occurs to me that there might be bad stuff in the water other than fluoride due to old crappy pipes. I want to get the water tested myself to make sure there's no heavy metals or anything else like that. I don't have any brilliant ideas how to do so, but if the pins and needles don't clear up soon...
  24. I'm no expert-- not a doctor, nutritionist, dietitian or chemist. But I note that my thyroid as measured by the standard TSH test was normal when I was still pretty sick. Is that what you've had tested, or have you had the actual thyroid hormones (T2, T3, T4 as I recall) tested? Very few doctors test these; I've found one locally, but haven't gone to see...
