There is a CSA group that meets once a month in Norfolk-serves the whole Tidewater/Hampton Roads area. Many are members of the national CSA as well as GIG. I moved to the area in August and went last night for the first time. Here is the link (the info for next month's meeting might not be updated yet) : Open Original Shared Link
Where do you live?

I live in King William. I'm 30 minutes from West Point. I belong to a GIG in Richmond, but hope to meet Celiacs in this area.

Does anyone know of or would anyone be interested in a fun group in the eastern virginia/ tidewater area? I live between West Point and Tappahannock and would love to get together with others who are gluten-free in this area. I'm active in the Gluten Intolerance Group in Richmond.

Prior to and a year after my diagnosis of celiac disease I was taking up to 25 pills a day for a variety of things from depression to hypothyroid to neuropathy to Osteopenia
... After alot of research, I weaned off of everything except insulin -I also have Type 1 diabetes- and replaced them with supplements: A, B6, B12, E, 5HT, Folic Acid, Iron, Calcium w/D, Selenium, Magnesium and Zinc. I have found I feel alot better and have more energy (and money). Has anyone had similar experiences?

I love the show HOUSE and an episode about Celiac disease would be so COOL! Let me know when it's airing-although I never have missed an episode, not even a repeat.

I was sitting in my family room last night watching the news on Fox channel 5 when they started talking about this misterious disease that is caused by
eating.
Hmm.. I said oh please, let it be about celiacs. Low and behold it was!!!
They did a pretty good job on the whole article, but here's the great news....remember a few months back when we were all talking about sending letters to the show 'HOUSE' on the Fox network to see if they would do a show on celiacs? Well, they finally are!!!!! We must have made an impact!! I didn't catch when they said the episode would be on (I was too busy whooping and hollering)
but I know it will be soon. I can't wait!! The only thing I noticed about the article on the news that wasn't good was when they were talking about symtpoms. Once again only diarreah and weight loss were mentioned. What about constipation and weight gain?
Anyway, We'll take what we can get. I am sooo excited!!
If anyone else saw this and caught when th HOUSE show will be on please let me know.
Thanks, Wendy

I have both Celiac Disease and Type 1 diabetes and am hoping to meet others living with both diseases and how you deal with it. I've had diabetes most of my life, but was diagnosed with Celiac Disease a year ago, although after a lifetime of symptoms.
Did Anyone Need To Decrease Meds After Going gluten-free?

I was actually able to go off all my anti-depressants. I was on 80 mg Prozac, 60 mg Cymbalta and 170 mg Doxepin and was told I'd be on for life. I now know I wasn't absorbing any nnutrients due to malabsorption and needed the B vitamins, Folic acid, Selenium and 5-HTP. I've had no problems or recurrences of clinical depression. Definitely consult your MD before changing doses or weaning, though.
I was able to go off my meds completely (except insulin). I was on 80 mg Prozac, 60 mg Cymbalta and 170 mg Doxepin. The reason being malabsorpton prevented me from absorbing the nutrients needed to produce Serotonin in the first place. I take the B vitamins, Folic acid, selenium and 5-HTP-which makes serotonin. Always consult with your MD before med adjustments, esp. anti-depressants-but know it has been done successfully.
