    Questions About Dating...

((SGWhiskers)) I soooo hope you called that restaurant employee's manager and reported her. They offer a gluten-free menu and how cruel of her to make any customer feel bad for needing to eat this way. If that is her attitude she does not need to be working there. How rude, uncaring and unprofessional. Also, I have had a co-worker tell me that because I have to eat this way that she thinks...that I think...that everything is all about me. Even though I try to never talk about it at work and/or bring in my own gluten-free treats on potluck days. She is a "mean girl" and has jealousy issues, so go figure. Everyone else has been really supportive, including my boss. Regardless, I refuse to get sick eating what the majority can eat to make someone else happy. Some people just suck. On the flip side of that, I have had staff at certain restaurants who blew me away with their kindness and consideration. It's hard to believe there is still intolerance out there in today's world.

    Questions About Dating...

I just feel like any guy that would not date me because I have to eat gluten-free should get lost. Most of the men I have dated have been sooooo supportive and actually seemed to enjoy the challenge of finding restaurants and things we could eat. One guy would actually make me "love offerings" of gluten-free strawberry shortcake, gluten-free cheesecake, and other goodies. The last guy I went on a couple dates with, actually did seem bummed I could not eat super-spicey Thai food, Chinese food, and basically whatever I wanted. He is a world traveler, and his last girlfriend could. Then again, he seemed to still be hung up on her. However...she sends him text messages ranting and calling him names...so if that is the sort of "classy" he is looking for, I guess they can run off together and eat Thai food and argue all the time. haha. What's really ironic is this guy can't eat sugar or rice! But, he brought up the gluten-free issue one too many times as if it were bothering HIM. I stopped returning his messages. I've been through serious chronic illness before I was diagnosed w/Celiac's. My now-ex-husband left me when I was sick and needed him most. So, I know how it feels to be shunned for health problems. But I can promise you now that I'm doing better...if someone would walk out on you for having to avoid gluten they will surely not stick around if you had something like cancer. They walk among us, but I would not date anyone who is that shallow. J
  3. Happy birthday and may God bless you today!

  4. I used canned green beans which I drained thoroughly before adding the casserole. I could not figure out where all that water came from.
  5. I used Beth's AP gluten-free Flour (gluten-free Pantry) for the carob brownies and they came out great! I bought another box and made the biscuit recipe on the back to go with my pot roast last night. I added shredded cheese and garlic salt and after they were cooked, brushed melted butter and garlic salt on top. Very nice!! Everything was just a wee more grainy than usual flour, but the brownies were still very good! I may add a little Xanthan Gum next time to see if that helps them not fall apart quite as easy. I still need to play with the soups for casseroles...thank you everyone for your ideas!
  6. Hi all! Last night I attempted a green bean casserole dish. I used 1 can of Progresso Creamy Mushroom soup and it thickened right up when I added 2 tbsp cornstarch to 1/4 cup cold water, which I then slowly stirred into the boiling soup. It was super-thick when I added it to my casserole. But after it was cooked, it was water-thin. It did not thicken back up after sitting on the counter awhile. : Anyone have any suggestions as to where I went wrong? I sooooo want to make a great gluten-free green bean casserole over the holidays. Also...I like to use canned yams in my candied yam recipe, it's just faster. Are most canned yams gluten-free? The Publix and Kroger gluten-free shopping lists do not list canned yams at all. Oh and one more, I'm going to attempt gluten-free carob brownies soon because I'm allergic to chocolate. I love this recipe but can no longer use regular flour of course. I was going to try using the Bob's Red Mill gluten-free Flour and add some Xanthan Gum. Anyone think this would work? Any and all suggestions are welcome! I've been experimenting with gluten-free cooking ALOT and getting things to stick together/thicken up has been challenging!
  7. Wow conflicting information...it drives me nuts! I had emailed them several times and for whatever reason could never get a reply. Their statement is interesting...how would my physician know if their 2nd or 3rd generation by-product ingredients contained gluten? Precisely the reason for asking... ugh!!
  8. True if you're avoiding parabens they are not paraben-free that I know of. Gluten-free yes.

    Chemical Peels Safe?

I'm a licensed Esthetician and I still call the manufacturer of anything I put on my skin. I'm prone to topical reactions as well as internal. If I'm applying product I'm not sure about to a client I use vinyl gloves. I'm extremely sensitive Celiac and do not feel comfortable about having gluten absorbed into my skin or possible cross-contamination. My gastroentologist told me I needed to be sure all my products are gluten-free. I discussed with him some on here are told as long as they don't ingest it it should be fine. It seems different doctors have different opinions on this one. Just food for thought.
  10. I just wanted to let everyone know, I called Victoria's Secret at 800-411-5116 (just keep hitting "zero" until you get a consultant) to inquire about gluten in their makeup. The rep put me on hold and called their makeup developers. They said their entire makeup line is gluten-free. I asked if there were possible cross-contamination issues. She called again and was told no, they can say with 100% certainty their entire line is gluten-free. I don't have this in writing, but this is the phone number if anyone wants to check for themselves. If anyone gets conflicting information, please post it! I love V's Secret lipsticks and glosses so, this is good news for me.
  11. This is correct. I had not seen this post when I just happened to call them today. I called because last year their raspberry flavor said "contains: Wheat" on the ingredient lable. I was told they thought at that time one of the ingredients was wheat-derived and therefore were required to post it on the ingredient information. They found out they were wrong. Since then, they have conducted a study, researched their suppliers, and confirmed their entire line is gluten-free. In addition they brought in scientists to do gluten testing. There is no chance of cross-contamination and they can say with 100% certainty all their flavors and products are safe. Their website now states all Emergen-C are gluten-free under their FAQ's section.
  12. They only ship by Fed-Ex because they said it needs to be frozen. The shipping fee is $25.00 for a case about $30.00.
  13. I called Udi's in Denver, they're not in the Southeast yet. I called my local Whole Foods and they don't carry it yet. Udi's said they are working on a site as we speak so we can order online, but right now their gluten-free line is not set up for online ordering. You can order over the phone by calling 303-657-6366. They do have a very hefty shipping fee because it's frozen and has to go out Fed-Ex. I was told we can order the bread by the case to make one order count. I sure hope they come to the Southeast soon. The shipping fee is an owie!!
  14. Check out gfsoap.com they have several products that are really good. Also all Body Drench lotions are gluten free, many are made for face and body. If you have a Cosmetics Market nearby they have a couple of product lines that say "gluten free" right on the product boxes, I apologize but I can't remember the name of the product lines right now. I personally use Clinique Yellow Moisturizing Lotion however their entire line is not gluten-free.
  15. I have been having one heck of a time coming up with a good list of unsafe makeup and product ingredients. I've also been having a hard time finding the ingredients listings for Rimmel makeup. I received an email from Rimmel and they advised if wheat, oats, rye or barley are in their ingredients it will clearly say on the packaging and not be hidden. However some of their products such as lipsticks do not have ingredients at all on the packaging. After much searching, this is Rimmel's product ingredients listings: http://www.rimmellondon.com/Ingredients/UK...edient_List.pdf And they emailed this listing of makeup ingredients which may contain gluten: *This is not an exhaustive list.
