  1. I don't have an answer to your question but I do have another question for you: Was he thinking your blisters were caused by herpes virus (therefore the Valtrex) and then Staph (therefore the use of Bactroban)?
  2. yes, can you provide us with the specific names of the tests performed, their results, and normal ranges?
  3. Thanks to both of you for the info. I have read enough about these drugs to scare my pants off already. The tricky thing in our process is that since she is 17 1/2, she will be seeing the psychologist by herself, although I did accompany her on the first visit and did mention the fact that we were trying a glute free diet. (This is not the person who...
  4. hi Jacqadactle, respectfully disagreeing about the idea that an intolerance that is not Celiac's does not have the propensity to negatively affect growth. While non Celiac gluten intolerance lacks the autoimmune component, and the corresponding destruction of the villi, it can cause bowel irritability, which by itself can interfere with absorption of...
  5. hi Jentu, I'm another mom .... not exactly in the same place you are but I can very much appreciate your dilemma. When my daughter was eleven she had serologies done, because she had fallen off her growth curve and had tummy aches and loose stools. The antigliadin IgG was the only thing that was positive. (borderline in her case.) If you read up on...
  6. thanks for the vote of confidence. I would not need the dx for me personally. I am content to be self diagnosed. The only reason for me to pursue further is to lend credence to the idea that the root cause of my daughter's depression is related to gluten intolerance. I really don't want to see her going on antidepreessant medication, if dietary changes...
  7. great help everyone, thanks! ummm, at the expense of appearing clueless.... what is panko?
  8. hi all, my daughter could stand to eat more protein. She likes to go the raw/vegetarian route, but, I feel she needs to eat a little meat! The one thing she doesn't refuse is her grandma's breaded chicken. Chicken breasts, thinly sliced, dredged in beaten egg, coated in bread crumb, baked. Grandma cooks for us on a regular basis, and while I want my...
  9. If this is not the right forum, mods can move! Ok I have posted elsewhere about my daughter who while not diagnosed as a celiac, had and still experiences symptoms of gluten intolerance: rumbly bowel, constipation, delayed puberty, trouble sleeping, and this summer, depression. She has been working to eliminate gluten from her diet for a little over three...
  10. Thanks, good reference.
  11. uh....can you explain the alpha nd beta part of your reply? (or point me to a reference)? Many thanks for your response!
  12. there are lots of people here on this board that will hear you loud and clear! In my case I am trying to help my daughter, who is currently dealing with depression, insomnia, and constipation. Yes it may have been appropriate to have bloodwork done at the time of your biopsy, although since you had been gluten free for a while, even with a gluten challenge...
  13. thank you for the reply! did you use Enterolabs for your typing?
  14. hi, in talking to my sister in law recently I found out that my niece - my daughter's cousin - has benefited from a gluten free diet. Several years ago they thought her problems stemed from Lyme disease but antibiotics did not treat it. My niece does not have a diagnosis of Celiac but has suffered from persistent generalized systemic syptoms, like chronic...
  15. from what I've read, the anti-gliadin IgG is the most sensitive test but least specific. Here is a detailed description of the tests: https://www.celiac.com/articles/57/1/Interp...ults/Page1.html
  16. well, we dont live in one of those states. So while her psychologist can recommend medication as part of the treatment program, she can't prescribe. She will start cognitive therapy with my daughter and referred her to a psychiatrist in the same mental health practice, who will evaluate her and determine which med and dosage. That's not happening for...
  17. Could it be another sign of healing? Did by chance, you have issues with insomnia as well as GI problems? My daughter has been working on eliminating gluten too. (The big sources were easy, now I'm working with her to be aware of stuff where gluten is precent as an additive... ie read the fine print.) One of her complaints was insomnia...trouble...
  18. a very happy update! Tonight, my daughter had some plans with her boyfriend that extended into the early evening hours, but they decided to come home for supper. Since originally they were going to be out til later, we had not included them in supper plans, and my husband really wanted pizza. He is a mean cook and the kitchen is his kingdom... so I had...
  19. To add to the confusion, try searching the board for Fructose Malabsorption. This entity was pointed out to me recently. It will cause many of the same symptoms that celiac or gluten intolerance do, but the mechanism by which it does so is different.
  20. have you read about Fructose Malabsorption? Its been discussed on other threads. The way you're eating is farily close to what's recommended for that.
  21. ha ha fluffy! yup, I have been documenting our eating patterns pretty openly. but I have not been actually writing them down in a place where I could pull this all together - right now its on this board and in my head. so. that is good advice on your part. Time to write stuff down in a diary. Lob me any other advice you want, I am open.
  22. Gladly! hannahp57, these do sort of turn out like a cross between a traditional crispy cracker and a flat bread, in that they are a little chewy. But I think that is what makes them so satisfying to eat. My daughter told me "hands off" the remaining supply till I make more... Ellie, I would suggest a serving size of 3 or 4 crackers along with some...
  23. I've always been a fan of fresh produce, and farmer's markets and farm stands are a lot of fun, and a good habit to form. On past vacations, we've gotten off the interstate, to drive the state roads, just so we can stop at these great places! Another poster indicated how "nutrient dense" gluten free products are. Meaning they have more calories than...
  24. thanks for the article, very interesting. It only reinforces my gut feeling (pun intended) that my daughter's depression IS directly related to a functional gut disorder. I really don't believe she has Celiacs - could be wrong, or IBD; her gastro never even mentioned IBS. In fact he never labeled her rumbling belly as anything. Which is ok, he clearly...
  25. you are right Serotonin has lots to do with the gut! and the absorption of tryptophan, tyrosine, all the B vitamins.... all the little goodies involved with the metabolism of neurotransmitters. I've already got her on a good multivitamin but have wondered about B supplementation in a more concentrated form. She is just shy of being 4 weeks off the...
