ARCHIVED Amitriptyline (elavil)
momxyz replied to momxyz's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
fluffy, did a little homework on fructose malabsorption... I hope the hell this isn't the issue, some of the "bad" fruit listed are amongst her absolute favorite foods... eliminating those would be 100 times more of an uphill climb than de-glutening. -

fluffy and raven - love the names BTW! - thanks for your replies. They help. The historical info on the tri cyclics is useful and really puts things into perspective. Until yesterday it never occurred to me that the purpose of the amitryptiline was for anything but calming the gut, and I do think that my original supposition there, given your info, is... -
hi there, I'm a mom in a household of "mixed nutritional needs" you said your moms typical meal was steak, potatoes and salad. Well, you could profit from a small portion of steak. My daughter prefers a vegetarian style herself, but, as a teen, its really difficult to get all the essential amino acids you need from plant sources alone. Tyrosine...

Hi all, I am just majorly bumming out this evening and I almost feel like I could cry and I just really need to express all this. Ok, so. When my daughter expressed her feelings of depression almost four week ago, the first thing was to go off the birth control pills. Second we scheduled with her PCP, which took a week to get into. He felt her symptoms... -

ARCHIVED Think Its Finally Getting Thru To Mom
momxyz replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
glad to hear the message is getting thru! We are new on this journey of the gluten free diet - 2 1/2 weeks. My daughter has had a few downfalls. One of the problems is the food that grandma cooks and sends over to us. She is a great cook, and cooking for us gives her a purpose. (She is recently widowed). Her daughter is a nurse, and she has had conversations... -

I could live w/o "regular" bread; we're not that big on sandwiches anyways. But for the occasional time we'd like one, I am thinking pita pockets would be a good option. Are gluten free pita pockets out there? -

hi, thanks for the reply. Yes, it was an endoscopy, I even have the pictures he took while in there. I don't have the blood tests, would have to request a copy of those. I think it was the anti-gliadin that was elevated, but I am not sure. Some of the things I've read suggest that this test may not be specific for celiac disease. You're right it... -

yes, this did clarify the use of this drug in this circumstance... am still wondering whether going off it contributed to her current problems. -

thanks for sharing your experience... When she was 11, depression was not anything she was experiencing, just the rumbly belly, and the issue of depressed feelings was never mentioned by the MD. That's why I am now, retrospectively trying to figure out why the heck she was put on that particular drug. And now I am wondering if there is any relatonship... -

I am aware that sometimes a drug which has one indication in the adult population can be used for an entirely different indication with kids. In my nonstop quest to connect all the dots and figure our situation out....I am wondering if there is a nurse or MD on the board that could enlighten me. In 2003 my was 11 and had fallen off her growh curve.... -

balmerhon, if you think working with a 3 year old to change their diet is hard, try working with a 17 year old. At least while he in your home you have a captive audience! My daughter is trying very hard to avoid gluten containing foods and does well for the most part. But is a normal busy teenager, working and then going out with friends. She has... -
cool idea! I think that substituting the squash for some of the liquid content is a great idea!

hi all, I confess I am a newbie in the gluten free kitchen arena. A coworker of mine did me a huge favor by giving me a sample of brown rice flour and her recipe for crackers. My daughter enjoys these (yeah!) and I do too. I will share the recipe and then ask some questions from you all! this is a half batch of what my friend makes - 2 Cups...

hi I am a mom of a daughter that I suspect is gluten intolerant, but not Celiac. Before you jump to solutions and treatments, you may want to understand causes. I will share you my duaghters problems in this thread https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.ph...uten+depression and another thread that addresses the differences between outright...

thanks Momma Goose, that was very beneficial. I think that what it comes down to is that there is a spectrum of varying degees of sensitivity amongst people with gluten intolerance, with the most pronounced and severe condition being Celiac Disease, for which there is a standard set of parameters for diagnosis. From what I have read - and the GIG info... -

ARCHIVED Marshmallow Fluff Or Marshmallows Ok?
momxyz posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
hi all I am a newbie cook in the gluten-free arena. I just found for my daughter, a gluten free rice puff cereal today, and I had the brainstorm of making a small batch of the good ole Rice Krispie treats, substituting this cereal for the Rice Crispies. Is Marshmallow fluff or plain ole Marshmellows gluten free? From what I can see the potential offending... -
ranger, I agree, there is nothing so sad as an estranged family and Elizabeth does need to communicate first - in a polite but very direct manner with her SD. Sometimes, with people who like to exert their position or power on others, the only thing they will respect is a strong stance or even a bit of a push back. I am suspecting that is the case here...

Elizabeth, been thinking about what you said.... and I reached two conclusions. 1. I understand about your hubby not wanting to between his daughter and his wife. that really is different than my husband standing up to his parents. 2. Your sign is not going to do anything ..... The sign is just another little boundary that she will only get more...

know what? I think deep down she still has "issues" and this is her way of projecting them on others to feel more secure about herself. I couldn't find to place to add a comment or I would have written this to her myself.
