I'm restaurant researching again! My husband, who is the chief cook (I get to be chief bottle washer ) has been really great since both my daughter and I have gone gluten free. (Of course, he's outnumbered; that helps ) He utilizes gluten free bread crumbs now, enjoys gluten free pizza crust, cooks brown rice and brown rice pasta, and vegetables...

Jason, I'm only two months into the gluten free diet, and on the first two occasions of eating anything but home prepared food, I glutened myself. Once was at a family gathering, and the other time was at a work conference. This situation in my life is fairly new to me, and I've only confided with a couple of coworkers at this point - neither of whom attended...

Dinner was Thursday night and it was great. Wonderful wait staff too. I waited two days to reply because the last time I got glutened that was how long it took for the full effect to hit me.... am happy to say everything's fine! I am really glad I did the research ahead of time.... I was able to just relax and enjoy the company of friends.... and...

ARCHIVED Gluten And Depression
momxyz replied to momxyz's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Stacy, your explanation actually mirrors what the psychiatrist explained to us. That the purpose of the drug is not to be on it forever, but to break the cycle and help reestablish more productive patterns, both physiologically and psychologically. and yes she is seeing a therapist as well. I really appreciate your reply. I would be interested in hearing... -
ARCHIVED Irrational Anxiety Issues
momxyz replied to Jamesheff's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
if you research you will find that gluten intolerance and celiacs has a definite association with depression. The root cause is malabsorption of B vitamins and tryptophane, both of which are involved in how the body manufactures serotonin. Decreased serotonin levels lead to depression. The action of Zoloft is to decrease serotonin uptake, thereby making... -
The single dose vaccines come in pre loaded syringes. But no one with an egg allergy should get any form of the vaccine. The viruses used to formulate the vaccine are cultivated in eggs.....

thanks for the answer! its been 10 days since the appearance of the last new blister. Plus some of the more persistent older spots are doing much better.... they no longer look like craters! And the itch factor is way down. Which is a good thing, because my nails are growing like crazy and can now do way more damage! I hope you and your husband...

yes, I have read about the iodine test. Do you think it would still be positive after 8 weeks on the gluten free diet?

ARCHIVED H1n1 Flumist...ok For Celiac's And Allergies?
momxyz replied to RissaRoo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Any allergies to egg would be a contraindication for either the seasonal or swine flu vaccine. -
Good news! my contact at the restaurant reviewed all my selections and they are prepared w/o gluten! He again encouraged me to ask any further questions when I go there. so if you're ever in Ogunquit, check it out! Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Doughy Bread Products
momxyz replied to twe0708's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We like using the Namaste pizza crust mix. You bake it prior to putting the sauce and cheese on it. We found that if we flipped it during the baking, the insides did bake through. It also helped to spread the dough out to the size indicated on the package. -
here's the response I got from my email: Greetings; Please let us know of your requirements when you make your reservation. Our servers are familiar with gluten free diets and will ask our chef if they are unsure. Thanks for joining us. so I replied with questions about the specific items I intend to order; but I was pleased with the quick reply...

ARCHIVED Stomach Pain Questions....
momxyz replied to jmjsmomma's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
yes, definitely pursue testing. But as soon as the testing process is completed, I would try the gluten free diet, regardless of the results. -
thanks, Mtndog I have emailed them and asked if they have any staff who are familiar with sources of gluten and wouldn't mind me asking a question or two.. If I don't hear back I'll call the day before we go. If all else fails....there's the double lobster special!

ARCHIVED Stomach Pain Questions....
momxyz replied to jmjsmomma's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think any abdominal pain that occurs after eating gluten is a telling sign.... You mentioned you have psoriasis. I was doing some research comparing and contrasting psoriasis with DH (dermatitis herpetiformis). I stumbled across this article that indicated an association between psoraisis and celiac diseaase. This article stated that when these patients... -
ARCHIVED Relative Hitting New Lows
momxyz replied to debmidge's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
She may never get it, I agree. But if he speaks up and clearly defines his expectations, then, she will at least know those expectations. Whether or not she feels they are valid is immaterial - but she can't say she hasn't been told. Don't be hard on yourself for not being so forgiving with your family.... there's a time and place for everything. -
I am going out with friends at the end of the week and am still new at this game. I haven't contacted the restaurant yet to see if the are familiar with gluten-free food prep, but I have perused their menu on line. Here's what I am thinking of. Appetizer: shrimp coctail or cheese stuffed mushroom Salad: Jonathan's House salad (has no croutons...

ARCHIVED Relative Hitting New Lows
momxyz replied to debmidge's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
so sorry to hear that, she is either a very selfish and callous person, or, somebody who really enjoys pushing other people's buttons. Either way, after the dusts settles from this event, I would encourage your husband to calmly, matter of factly, but VERY firmly confront his sister. And just reiterate, one more time, that his dietary needs are NOT OPTIONAL... -
ARCHIVED Relative Hitting New Lows
momxyz replied to debmidge's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
how frustrating this must be for you! I have to confess that I used to have a reaction (internal, I kept my mouth shut) when my sister in law always brought special foods for her daughter to family gatherings. My neice was having physical problems that standard medical care was not addressing, and so, my sister in law began exploring food intolerances... -
actually this is both interesting and helpful. You surmised correctly, I was thinking of the pustular form of Psoriasis. From what I have read, everyone's response and time to heal - for both entities - varies. Although the pretty common theme I hear is patience is required! Initiallly I thought this had to be DH because I was able to see improvement...
-
I would like to start a discussion of this as I do not have a confirmed diagnosis of my rash. I suspected DH because of the intense itching and so decided to go gluten free. I have experienced both improvement, and two episodes where the itchiness returned - both associated with ingesting gluten. But being a devil's advocate I asked myself "But what...

ARCHIVED gluten-free/cf Pizza Ideas?
momxyz replied to jello5's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My family - gluten free and gluten friendly members alike - love the Namaste brand pizza mix. It is easy to prepare, has great seasonings. my very Italian husband preferred it over some other glutenous crusts he had been using! -
ARCHIVED Celiac Or Non-allergic Pasta Intolerance?
momxyz replied to ExPastaQueen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I believe you are right, the CT scan will show solid material or trapped air, but will do nothing to rule in or rule out an intolerance. But, ruling out solids or air that shouldn't be there would be valueable. I will let others more experienced speak to the testing algorithms. Just want to add that it would be very possible to be gluten intolerant and... -
Ok, I have tried to use your advice here - yesterday I tried going without the hyrocortisone and almost made it thru my work day with feeling itchy witchy. I did put a little on after work. Today was better still and after work, I had to stop by the grocery store, which has a fairly decent pharmacy section. Probably not as big a selection as say Rite Aid...
