  1. I think a lot of manufactured, processed vegetarian foods will have wheat in them, (veggie burgers and the like) but whole vegetables and fruits have always been naturally gluten free. you can find vegetarian and gluten free protein sources, if you're lacto-ovo, your options are more than if...
  2. everyone has different symptoms, it's hard to say if yours are specifically from gluten intolerance or from something else. Burning sensations in the mouth I think are more common with allergic reactions rather than an auto-immune reaction. When do you notice the burning? All the time, or only...
  3. if you're so concerned about reducing salt in your diet, it doesn't mean you're reduced to eating only dirt. Not by any means! Just cut out packaged manufactured foods and soft drinks, and eat anything else you want that is gluten free and put salt on it. The human body *needs* salt to survive...
  4. I made a loaf of bread that was about half n half gluten-free white all purpose flour and flax meal. It lasted quite nicely about a week on the counter wrapped in a paper towel and sealed in a plastic zip lock bag. I don't have a bread machine, I mixed in a stand mixer and baked in the oven...

  6. have you tried flax meal as a non-grain cereal replacement? If you can tolerate eggs and dairy, here's an easy recipe for a wonderful hot "cereal" in a small sauce pan on medium heat: 2 tablespoons ricotta cheese whisk in 1 to 2 tablespoons water if the cheese is "dry" whisk in 1 large...
  7. that really sucks. Management really should teach people how to properly understand their nutrition and allergy information, they could do someone some serious harm!
  8. I've found that the Choceur brand at Aldi's is pretty good. I have not had any reaction to the dark chocolate at all (and I'm pretty sensitive). There is no warning about wheat on the allergen list and I've noticed most of the Aldi foods do list wheat if there is possibility of cross contamination...
  9. it may just be the peppermint. I know a lot of people don't like peppermint toothpaste because it bothers them. Try a different flavour, or milder mint.
