ARCHIVED Have You Ever Felt Like This?
gary'sgirl replied to conniebky's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have had times in my life - prior to being gluten free - when I have felt that same way. I can't remember for sure if it was after I ate breakfast, but it seems like it was, and I know it was in the mornings. Wish I had some advice or something for you, but I at least wanted to say that I had experienced the same thing before. Hopefully you figure... -
I was hoping that some of you could give me some suggestions about what I should talk with my Doctors about at my appointments tomorrow. I have an appointment with my neurologist and with my GI doctor. So far, to my knowledge, I haven't had any vitamin deficiency tests, which after reading several places, this forum being one, I wonder why my doctors...

ARCHIVED Confused About Nuts
gary'sgirl replied to Skylark's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hey, I just thought I would mention that as of a month ago the Blue Diamond facility was not gluten free (I guess they could have changed since then, but I doubt it). I called them and asked specifics and was told that they clean their equipment very well, but their Wasabi flavored nuts contain gluten and are produced on the same lines as all the other nuts... -
Yes, I get those too, but I haven't figured out what to do about them. I am seeing a neurologist right now to try and sort out those and some other neuro issues. Sorry I can't be of more help, but I hope you get some good replies.

ARCHIVED Visual Disterbance/ Migrain - Lasting 4 Months Now
gary'sgirl replied to gary'sgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was just thinking about what you wrote about the diet, skylark, and I remembered that I did ask him if there were any alternatives to drugs that I could try first. He said "not really. you could try taking a walk every day and make sure you're eating healthy". So I guess he doesn't really know about - or chooses not to use - a specific diet that can help... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Else Been Diagnosed With Lupus?
gary'sgirl replied to gary'sgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Did she say why they tested her if she didn't have symptoms yet? That's a little curious. Maybe she had a parent with the disease. -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Else Been Diagnosed With Lupus?
gary'sgirl replied to gary'sgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you been tested again for Lupus since going gluten free? Do you know what the ANA is? I don't even know what exactly they test when they are looking for Lupus. -
I would love the recipe if you wouldn't mind typing it up. I looked at the picture and it looks wonderful! ~Sarah

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Else Been Diagnosed With Lupus?
gary'sgirl posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was just wondering if anyone else has been diagnosed with Lupus since going gluten free. Also, I just talked to the receptionist at my neurologists office about the blood work that he ordered for me, and she said it came back "borderline" for Lupus. Does anyone know what that means? -
ARCHIVED Visual Disterbance/ Migrain - Lasting 4 Months Now
gary'sgirl replied to gary'sgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow, your experience sounds a lot like mine. I haven't driven myself any where for five months until just a couple of weeks ago, and even when I have I can only go about 2 miles (5 min drive) to the grocery store. I tried to drive myself to my GI appointment a month ago and it was so scarry - I felt like I was going to pass out. I had to try really hard to... -
ARCHIVED Visual Disterbance/ Migrain - Lasting 4 Months Now
gary'sgirl replied to gary'sgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi k2626,I do get that kind of migraine sometimes too. The sparkley thing for sure and then I can't remember exactly how I would have described it, but I'm going to pay attention if it happens again. Did all your peripheral vision go completely away or was that the part that was like a kaleidoscope? -
ARCHIVED Visual Disterbance/ Migrain - Lasting 4 Months Now
gary'sgirl replied to gary'sgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm glad you posted this dilettantesteph. When I read it it jogged my memory (I have been having an increasingly harder time remembering things - long and short term - I feel like I need to write everything down ). Before this migrain started I would describe them like a mirage or looking through a fish tank. I would still describe them this way ... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Symptoms - Is This Normal Recovery?
gary'sgirl replied to CantWeight's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't think you posted in the wrong place, sometimes people don't know what to answer or maybe just not the right people read it yet. I haven't gotten my hands on any books yet, but I want to and have been thinking of posting a question myself about recomended reads soon. I think your experience is pretty normal. Many people go through a withdrawal... -
ARCHIVED Visual Disterbance/ Migrain - Lasting 4 Months Now
gary'sgirl replied to gary'sgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Another thing I just thought of that is kind of weird. I recently realized that if I look a row of letters or something (like an eye chart) I have a harder time focusing on the letter in the center with both my eyes. It doesn't seem the same with each eye on it's own. I don't know - just thought I would mention it. -
ARCHIVED Visual Disterbance/ Migrain - Lasting 4 Months Now
gary'sgirl replied to gary'sgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For some more background information: I am seeing a neurologist and I guess he thinks it's possibly a migraine because he is trying to find a preventative migraine med that I can take (having trouble finding a safe one for nursing). I have had this happen before. The first time was two years ago and I thought that maybe I needed glasses or something... -
ARCHIVED Visual Disterbance/ Migrain - Lasting 4 Months Now
gary'sgirl posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and if they found the root of the problem and/or a treatment (preferably a natural treatment - I'm nursing an infant). I woke up one morning in the beginning of January not being able to focus unless I held my eyes and head very still. At first I just thought I was so tiered from lack of... -
ARCHIVED Glucose Breath Test
gary'sgirl replied to Bobbijo6681's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Have you possibly tried taking food enzymes when you eat? I have read on this forum that many poeple need to take them for a while because celiac can make it hard for your body to digest any food - even the easily digestable ones. I just started to take them a few weeks ago and it is the first thing that has helped me since going gluten free (that I've... -
ARCHIVED Chicken And Gluten Intolerance
gary'sgirl replied to Peace41's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't know for sure about chicken, but this past Thanksgiving (my first that was gluten free ) I had quite a hard time finding a turkey that did not have a brine that contained gluten. And although it was usually listed from wheat I also saw the phrase "spices and other flavorings" which could have had malt or some other such thing that is made from a... -
ARCHIVED Do Your Kids Eat Breakfast?
gary'sgirl replied to Juliebove's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
One thing you could talk about and maybe research a little with your daughter is the fact that people who eat a good breakfast - even a large breakfast if it is healthy - end up being healthy weights without having to diet. This is because our bodies need energy for the day and when you skip breakfast you end up feeling so hungry later that you just grab... -
ARCHIVED Wondering If I'm Gluten Sensitive
gary'sgirl replied to kimann79's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Whoops! I didn't see that there was a second page when I replied . Anyway, I just thought I would add to this that if your thyroid did start working better after you go gluten free I would think that it was not a coincidence, but that taking gluten out of your diet made your thyroid able to heal and start working better. Did I mention that my mom and... -
ARCHIVED Wondering If I'm Gluten Sensitive
gary'sgirl replied to kimann79's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hey there, kimann79. I'm sorry you are frustrated - health problems seem to do just that - make life frustrating. I just want to say, for your encouragement, that it sounds like you are very health conciouse and have done a great job taking care of your family with the good food that you have put a lot of time and effort into making. Let that sink in - you... -
Hey I just wanted to add here that you may want to be careful of Chex Cereals. I have heard of several people having a bad reaction to the ones that are supposed to be gluten free. -Maybe a cross contamination issue. Personally I've steered clear of them.
-
I just thought that I would add - although you all probably know - that you can still have trouble with constipation while on large amounts of fiber if you do not drink enough water. I know it sounds like a lot, but most women should drink almost a gallon of water a day which is twice as much as what most magazines and the like suggest. If you take a lot...

ARCHIVED Wondering If I'm Gluten Sensitive
gary'sgirl replied to kimann79's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was diagnosed by biopsy. My doctor was so sure that I had Celiac that he thought we didn't need to bother with the blood tests and just wanted to do the biopsy. The blood test are often wrong - even the biopsies are wrong some times. I have heard (or read ) that some people think that the gene test is the best one to do because then you know if you have... -
I have been gluten free for 6 months now and the only type of meat I can tolerate is fish. I noticed even before I went off of gluten that my body just couldn't digest the stuff. I think the protein is too much for my gut. Hopefully that is not it, but it could be. Check other ingred. first.
