I was told to replace my colander strainer, toaster, cutting boards and anything wooden. I'm a single mom, so I replaced what I used the most first. Slowly I have replaced pots, pan and dishes for me. They aren't the high quality I once had, but they get the job done. I was in so much pain for so long, I was willing to try everything.

I was just curious to see if everyone has had the biopsy to determine they indeed have Celiac. My blood work just came back positive and now I am waiting to see if doctor wants to do the biopsy...I just want to know if that is necessary???
Even though my blood levels were very positive for Celiac, my DR wanted the Endo to DX me Celiac. I put it off for a month because of work. Looking back, I would never do that again! I wished my DR would have educated me more on gluten and what it was actually doing to my body. I'm glad I had the Endo to see how bad my damage is. There are several here that did not have it done. If you do have it, have it done asap!

Laptop lunches are not gluten-free, but you may get some ideas here that you can make gluten-free.

Sorry, my link didn't work.

Could you get the number and call them yourself? That may help you have more or know the ingredients.

I drink a few brands of white wines, and have not had a problem.

I started going to a new church a few weeks ago and took communion today. The entire communion is gluten free. For the first time, I was able to take communion and didn't have to worry about CC. I felt so included. The women responsible for coordinating it had special gluten-free pita flown in from New York. She still isn't satisfied with it's texture, so she made two other pitas - one from a mix and one from scratch. She had me taste test after the sermon today and we decided upon her "from scratch" recipe for all of the future services. They do lunch on Sunday after the services, and are going to let us coordinate two entirely gluten-free lunches each month. I'm really excited. If any of you live nearby and want to check it out, here's the site: Open Original Shared Link The pastor is so awesome and is also a friend - his wife is gluten-free also.
It was really nothing short of a blessing today!
That is so awesome, truly a blessing!

Thanks to all the replies!I have enjoyed reading how you feel about this. I don't feel it defines me as a person, however, it is a part of who I am. I went through many emotions when I was first DX. I'm past those now and focus on the positive things in my life. I've been through several things in life and feel this another one, learn and live! Perhaps it doesn't define who we are, but defines some of our actions??? Thanks everyone, her comment made me start thinking. BTW, I'm going to use the broken leg example!!
Thanks for the birthday wishes as well.

Thank you all for your wonderful replies!!!!

I've been thinking about your conversation for a while and trying to figure out what my own response would be if someone told me that. This might come off as offensive to some people but I very much believe celiac is a part of who we are and that does not have to be a bad thing. You need to always remember that you have celiac because that vigilance keeps you safe and healthy...yes there is a point where someone could go overboard with anxiety. I'm assuming in my response to you that you are not paralyzed with fear, afraid to even enter a grocery store because of celiac. I'm assuming you are just taking reasonable precautions based on your own level of sensitivity and the advice you have read here. Now that I got all the disclaimers out of the way, If MY sister (or anyone) were to say that I should "just have fun and not think of the celiac once". I would look her in the eye and ask her, "If I had a broken leg would you take me to the beach and expect me to go swimming?" If she's smart, I imagine her response would be "No we would do something where you don't have to worry about your leg...." A good friend/sister would not drag you over the sand and into the water telling you to forget about your broken leg and have fun. A better response would be to come up with an activity that accomodates your injury so you don't have to worry about your broken leg....Of course celiac is not a temporary broken leg and is not nearly as visible. But it is a form of disability all the same. I know someone is probably going to be offended by my writing that, but it's true. Someone is going to object and say they are not disabled by celiac, they do everything and can find a way to eat everywhere in the world without a care. Someone will say they never plan they are completely spontaneous when it comes to food....Well they are very much not the norm. Show me a celiac that NEVER worried or struggled with eating out safely and never plans their food ahead of time when traveling or going out for the day and I will show you someone that either does not take this diet seriously or does not have serious reactions to gluten (or both).
Okay, my point. Perhaps I'm rambling too much. Somehow in all this mess you have to figure out a balance of embracing celiac and not letting it dictate your life. Maybe that is what your sister was trying to get you to do...but what she doesn't seem to understand is that while you are figuring that out for yourself...you need HER to accept that this is a part of your life now. It's not visible like a broken leg but it is real, it's not going away, and it needs to be taken into account in the same way you would have to take account of any disability. The next time your sister wants you to have fun without worrying about celiac, politely suggest that you do something that does NOT revolve around food then--do something during a non-meal time or something that allows you to pack a picnic lunch without standing out.
Thank you so much, you assume correctly. I am going into my 12 month gluten-free. I know most people don't want to hear about me being Celiac, so I don't talk much about it. Most think I'm crazy when it comes to CC issues. Thanks for the reply, I agree with you.

So, I haven't eaten out in over four months because I got sick the last time. I'm afraid of it really. However, it was my birthday this week and I wanted to try to go to a resturant that has done good by me twice. There is a chef and gluten-free menu. This makes me feel safer somehow?? Anyway, was planning on going there with my kids for lunch today and do a little B-Day shopping afterward. I had it all planned out..arrive very early etc.
After telling my sister that I am afraid, but going to try it anyway she said... "she wanted me to go and have a fun day and not think of Celiac not once! It doesn't define who you are". I'm struggling with this. I don't talk about Celiac much, don't complain, don't whine to anyone. However, everytime I eat or have to prepare my food, I AM A CELIAC. I cannot forget that no matter how much I'd like to. I told her she didn't understand my fear of being sick. I know I'm OCD about certain things and washing my hands, but this has me thinking. I try very hard to be a strong woman and not come across as a sick person.
I have a life besides being a Celiac, but I am a Celiac and forever will be, it is part of who I am! I know it doesn't define me, however, it is a big part of who I am. Do any of you have a hard time with relatives this way? I had to stop and think "does this consume me" Well, yea it does some days. I'm just getting the hang of this.
Lunch? So, feeling good about ordering. gluten-free, no tomatoes on salad(allergic), wheat allergy, celiac etc no croutons, no bread. My super salad gets there with a ton of croutons on it and my heart sinks. I ordered it with dressing on the side so I could view it. No need, it was covered, the server was upset by it and took it away. I am praying they don't try to pick them off and try to give it to me. She comes back and tells me she is so sorry and the general manager is over seeing the making of my salad. He comes to me and apologizes. I told him I did not mind the wait, I just wanted my salad safe to eat.( I was very nice) He told me they were remaking it totally, grilling new chicken etc. He brought it out to me and this appeared gluten-free. I asked again, if it was gluten-free and safe, he reassured me it was. So, I should know by the morning if it was safe. Wow, what a day!

I got glutened at the same time as you.... It screwed me up for 3 days, just like you....
I caught my 13 year old daughter wiping her gluteny hands on my dish towel after she ate wheat toast. She admitted that she had done the same thing the day before at breakfast (instead of washing her hands). I used that same towel to dry my coffee cup after breakfast that day. I guess maybe I wiped some gluten into it. Since then, I have implemented my own dish towel that know one is to touch.
Meant to also say, I do not use dish towels anymore. Paper towels are my friend

I can relate! I cook gluten-free, however my children do have snacks or frozen meals that contain gluten. Every once in awhile I will let my daughter get waffles. I need to convert her to gluten-free ones! They eat gluten-free pasta now. I hate when I get CC at home. They also do wraps and have some breads around at times. I've tried to make part of the kitchen a gluten-free zone, but with teens thats difficult at times. My daughter is better at keeping it safe than my son. She won't kiss me or touch my stuff if she has eaten gluten. They have a gluten table and there are rules using any part of the counter top.

thanks so much for that response. The reason I was alarmed was that the pain was lower left and usually my glutening results in the typical (for me) ache on my right side. But funny the pain on the left is gone and now I have the tell-tale ache on the right.
it is amazing that you say the diverticuli went away! I am supposed to go for a ct scan and then my first colonoscopy at 50 in a few weeks. I must admit I am a bit nervous about that event.... any comforting words of wisdom on that? thanks
I'm going to be 45 and had a colonoscopy when trying to figure out what was wrong with me. To me, the worst thing was not eating solids the day before, even the prep wasn't bad to me. I got there and they gave me the "happy juice" next thing I know I'm waking up. You'll wake up with some gas. The nurse told me it was okay to pass it...and I suggest you do so. Sorry for the TMI. I had already been put through so many test, some painful. Meds and scans, that having this was no big deal. Don't be afraid, it's a good thing

I eat Kraft and Cabot in block form. I like Cabots 50% white cheaddar. Where I'm from I haven't seen Kraft block cheese with gluten-free on the label, however, Cabot does. I still trust Kraft to label gluten ind.

Salad with 3 boiled egg whites, veggies, strawberries and grapes water
Grilled chicken tenders glazed with a natural Balsamic vinaigrette(finally found a bottle dressing with no corn)
grilled veggies on top of quinoa.
1oz low fat cheese with grapes

I brought my own food and felt alright yesterday. There were crumbs everywhere however. I was going to eat the ham, but my sis had the rolls beside them. There were gluten-free food there, but not knowing how it was prepared...I just ate my own stuff. I felt iffy today, not sure why. I found Easter dinner easier to go without. I think with Thanksgiving and Christmas there are more traditional foods I have to go without. I think with each hoiliday it will get better!

Thanks. I like coming here to have my pity party with people who understand.
NateJ how long have you been gluten-free? I hate to read how some of you do not have understanding families. Mine understands and do not pressure me to eat, however they do not get the CC issues at all! At Thanksgiving my sister had the stuffing beside the turkey. I talked with her and brought my own food for Christmas. I was planning on eating the ham yesterday, but I walked in and she had rolls beside the ham. Not knowing what type of contact the rolls had with the ham, I didn't eat it. I brought my own meal, however not feeling so good today. I look around when they are eating and there are crumbs everywhere! I hope you feel better soon.
Perhaps your wife could read some of our post to help her understand how very real and important eating gluten-free is to us. Unless this is "your safe place" If you know what I mean. I sometimes wonder why it's so difficult for people to understand Celiac.
I know it sucks, hang in there!

I hear people talk about having symptoms after accidentally eating gluten. Some of these symptoms seem pretty severe.
I'm guessing that these symptoms haven't always been present (vomiting, etc.) so I'm curious how soon they started after you began the gluten-free diet?
I've been told you become more sensitive to gluten over time. If, for example, gluten didn't always make you have immediate severe stomach cramps, when did that begin? Had you been on the diet for awhile?
Depending on how much the CC was.... It can start between a few hours and up to 12 hours. I get a headache, terrible brain fog, then terrible pain in my sides and cramping. I'm usually on the couch the first day. If working,it's really difficult to get through the day. The second day the brain fog is better, but my side pain last 3-4 days.

Thank you all for your ideas! I did not make it for Easter. I did make the quinoa mushroom pilaf. It was something new to my family! It had mixed reviews, my younger sister loved it! My older sister who I thought was getting the gluten-free CC issues had the gluten-free ham beside the rolls. I had not been there to see how she placed things, so I didn't eat the ham. I did bring me a big herb salad and fruit. I'm making the mac and cheese this week for my children, I'll let you know how it turns out! I am also trying new seafood recipes this week. I'm on spring break and have extra time to cook.

I do, but only because of the corn ingredient. I bloat and cramp some after eating them. No glutened feeling, just tummy troubles.Same with starbrust, gluten-free jelly beans, hard candy and peeps. All gluten-free, but all have high fructose corn syrup. It took me awhile to figure it out.
