  1. It was a little box inside an article called "BIG LIES ABOUT FOOD ALLERGIES". Ugh.

I read this also. The article mentions celiac in the last paragraph. It talks about wheat allergy and why some people "think" they need to be gluten-free. Then it was like..BTW some people have Celiac. At least that is what I took from the article. :(

  2. My first as well. It will be at my sisters house and we are working together to make sure the turkey will be gluten-free. I plan on making two sides that are gluten-free and bring some other things gluten-free for me. I'll take my portion out at home to avoid CC there. I'm making a crustless pumkin pie for myself as well. She is understanding and knows on other things I need to get my stuff first.

  3. We tried a shared household for about a year being as careful as possible and couldn't get healthy. We eat almost no processed foods. At present we haven't found any sweeteners that we can eat without glutening symptoms. We have to peel and wash just about everything. I think that there is a lot further that you can go in your diet before settling on a refractory diagnosis. I know I'd have one by now if I hadn't gotten absolutely crazy with my diet. If you eat any processed grains that could be it. If you eat any whole grains without sorting and washing first that could be it. I can't do any of those things. If you eat regular meat from the store that could be it. I can only buy the bulk packaging direct from the meat producer. Are you still eating chocolate? I haven't found one that I can eat. Do you eat chicken? That seems to be a problem no matter what. Dairy?

Some really are a lot more sensitive than others. I hope you get it figured out.

Yes, chicken and chocolate both bother me. I was eating jasmine rice and did wash it. I'd like to eat more fruit, but afraid too right now. When I have low pain, I dont want to chance it.

  4. well, i hope you dont have refactory!!

i just looked at your "signature"- that's a nice long list of things to avoid- altho if most of us wrote down other foods that bothered us- it might look just as long.

i hope you're still experimenting with "grain free"- many of us DO feel better off all grains

another thing you should look at before you completely resign yourself to a "refractory" dx, is "Fructose Malabsorption"- since i researched that and eliminated many more foods- i feel MUCH MUCH MUCH better. excess fructose used to have me doubled over in pain SO DEBILHITATING that i would have gladly taken a Spinal Block. google Fructose Malabsorption and the "FODMAP" diet- and see if any of that rings true for you. it looks like A LOT of foods to avoid- but it's kind of different for everyone. ive completely eliminated certain foods- but am still experimenting with garlic and onions... sometimes these foods just have to be small enough portions.. for example: i can have a SMALL amount of garlic OR onions in one sitting, but i dont ever go near dates or pears.

good luck... and try not to be discouraged- a lot of us are dealing with multiple intolerances.

OH- also ask your doc if you could get tested for SIBO- that can cause similar symptoms

I've been watching oxalates and some with the fructose as well. Some days low pain others high pain. He is also watching my gallbl;adder.

  5. Thanks everyone for your thoughts and replies! I'm going to look at cutting out more things and eating very simply. I know it takes time, so I'm not going to worry about refactory just yet. I found my little bit of gluten today! My ZuZu lipgloss has wheatgerm oil in it. I was told the entire line was gluten-free, but when I picked up the info sheet today, the lipgloss has listed wheatgerm oil in it. I'm still searching every product and food. Thanks all I really appreciate it.

  6. So back to the doctor because I'm still in so much pain. He is testing me for refactory celiac, kinda scary! He is checking out my liver and thyroid as well, plus other blood test. Is anyone refactory here? I hear it is rare, but I know I'm extreme with being gluten-free and my products. 5 months in and my brain fog is gone, but not other symptoms. I have all my

own things in the kitchen and cut gluten use way down for my kids. However, work is another issue all together.

  7. I've given up alot of foods now! I'm the same way and eat very little now to help the bloat, gas and pain. Sometimes I wake up bloated or get bloated by just drinking water in the morning. I'm gluten-free going on my fifth month. I'm so OCD about gluten that I wear gloves for everything..hand washing etc...I'm actually getting to see the real gastro tomorrow. I hope he has some answers for me. Good luck and hugs, I understand!

  8. Thanks for your honest answer. This is what I am leaning towards. While I know the person hosting it's not like she's my best friend and I might only know one or two other women there. The point of this type of "party" is really the food and sales.

Part of me would want to go, but for now I'm still feeling left out. I'm new to this and when I have to bring my food or do without when others are eating I feel left out. My entire grade level plus teachers made mini pizzas Friday at school. I felt so left out as everyone was eating : ( Plus I almost freaked being around so much gluten. I would want to be with everyone at the party, but would feel left out when I couldn't eat what was demo.

  9. I've been asked out for breakfast, how do I attempt this? Any ideas? I've only been to pfChangs and Chic fil A since going gluten-free. I'm at a loss right now. I have some chains around me and not sure how to order or if it will be too much of a chance. They are letting me pick the place and I really don't trust fast food at all. Any help is much appreciated.

  10. I'm going into my fifth month gluten-free and still have days of great pain. Side paain and pain in the lower middle of my back.I don't eat breakfast anymore to limit the pain and bloating. I have just a few foods as well. I seem to be able to eat jasmine rice, cauliflower, green frozen peas, fish and shrimp with low pain. I am now having a difficult time finding fish that does not have anything added to it. I used to get wonder carolina shrimp until they stopped getting it beacuse they are shipping it to the gulf. (so I was told) Sometimes a few green grapes. Chicken seems to bring more pain. I buy organic and try to be careful to the point of being OCD. I'm looking forward to going to the docor this month, but worried he will say I just need to heal. That is what the PA told me. I'm concerned I'm cc myself alittle at home and at work.

  11. I was out of my school room this afternoon. I have been going to another room for the last couple of fridays while another teacher joins mine. Today I walk in and the teacher is eating from a bag of crackers at my desk and has them on it. I stopped in my tracks. I was quiet, but freaking out in my mind. How many Fridays has she done this? The children have snack on Fridays, so she eats what they do,gluten. I went ahead and told my teacher in a nice way I'd prefer if no one ate gluten on my desk. She apologized and said they didn't even think about it. So, a scrub down of my desk is in order. Do you ever feel safe anywhere? I'm wondering if on my bad days I'm getting some gluten from places I thought where safe. I'm rethinking everything, from my lipstick to work.

  12. I am still a fan of PF Chang's since I think they are really trying where other resturants aren't but I have a funny story. My very first gluten free dining out experience was a PF Chang's and at the end I got the fortune cookie. Out of habit I ate it and to this day I don't know if they are gluten free. I went again to PF Chang's last week and when she brought the fortune cookie I said - Is that gluten free and she said no. I asked why she brought it out and she said so I could read the fortune. I passed on that one.

I enjoy pfChangs a lot. My daughter and I went for her birthday. I usually go at 2 or 4 in the afternoon. The waiter asked if anyone had food allergies right up front. He's been the best one I've had yet! He was very careful and also brought out the fortune cookie. He told me I could not eat it, but wanted me to read my message. My daughter opened it for me. I know I take a chance eating out, but thinkk my odds are better with a gluten-free menu for now.

  13. I am getting my endoscopy in the morning. After a long battle with doctors with all my symptoms. Been very sick on the challenge I have not left the house in over a week due to it. Tonight is hopefully my last ever gluten meal I am thinking domino's pizza. I have burger king for lunch now I loved it however my belly thought different :)

Fried shrimp and hushpuppies, although now I wish I had gone to paneras or my fav mexican place! Papa johns perhaps.. Those are what I miss right now. However, going gluten-free has made a big difference..not trying to figure out other intolerances.

  14. We lost the little bun in the oven :( We'll start trying again when the man gets home from his deployment .

I'm ok, just eating frosting out of the container LOL. It's hard but I am thankful for the gluten free junk food you guys have showed me XD.

My thoughts and heart go out to you! I lost a baby before I had my son and daughter....((((((Hugs)))))

  15. I know this is an old thread, but I'd like to chime in.

I've been eating Lundberg flavored rice chips for the past two weeks, and have felt absolutely drained. Exhausted. Stools have not been stellar either. Gave them up a couple days ago and feel back to my old self again. If this is a gluten reaction, it would be the first one I've noticed ( I've never challenged ). I guess it could be something else in the chips, but I'm not sure what.

    They were so good too...

I've eaten 3 types of lundberg chips and got cramps etc. I switched to riceworks and they bothered me as well, I found out brown rice really gives me cramps and bloating. Brown rice is in a lot of gluten-free foods.

  16. Still detoxing pretty hard at this point and the cramping is just so bad. I've had it worse before, where I felt like I couldn't get out of a fetal position and wanted to throw up. But right now it's about halfway there. Just wondering, what works to relieve the pain for you guys?

Tylenol has mild relieving effects on it, but it is still often debilitating even with full Tylenol dose. Heat seems to help sometimes, sometimes not.

    What do you all use?

Also, is it better to use Imodium/Pepto or should I just let it get out? I honestly always purposely back myself up (when glutened) because I can't stand D and I can't stand living in the bathroom, but I realize that's probably not good? Not sure.

I use a heating pad on my stomach to help with cramping and throbbing pain. Not sure if meds would help
