  1. I eat the Starkist in the gold can all the time. It is gluten free. I react to soy oil and all the others have soy in them. Has the mustard or if you used it mayo been used by gluten eaters? If so then double dipping may have CC'd you.

I have my own mustard, it's French's. I didn't use mayo because it has potato starch in it. I think I CC myself. I didn't clean the kitchen after gluten eaters before I fixed lunch...my fault. Thought I was being careful. I'm kinda mad at myself, I know better. I'm going to make my kids go gluten-free. I believe my son has celiac, he hurts after eating. He was vomitting last week afer eating waffle house fri.then saturday a glutenful breakfast and burgers. Sunday morning he was so sick! He wants to put off the test, but I'm putting my foot down. It will be done this week. I've been doing so well for the last month, I hate this glutening at my own hands. I've been using gloves to clean etc and it's getting old being so paranoid in my own kitchen. Thinking that in my home I eat on shared lines!I felt the tuna was safe, thanks guys. I like to get others opinions.

  2. Hey guys, I ate starkist tuna for the first time since going gluten-free. It had water and tuna listed. I feel like crap! cramps, bad side pain, fuzzy head. I had it with and mustard. I assumed the tuna was safe?? I'm thinking I CC myself a little own my own. I'm looking to make my home gluten-free.I hurt with everthing whether mild to severe. It's getting me down and staring at my kitchen wondering what to eat.

  3. I don't know your history or whether you've ever taken any acid blocking drugs, but you could have low stomach acid, which could make you bloat after eating almost anything. Many people with celiac disease have low stomach acid, because gluten antibodies can attack the parietal cells of the stomach. Those cells produce stomach acid, which is necessary for proper digestion of food and absorption of vitamins and minerals from that food. Before I was tested for stomach acid production and started taking HCl supplements, I bloated after EVERY meal, no matter what I ate. (I was also abstaining from all my blood test diagnosed food allergies, but still bloated.)

I lived off of gas meds and acid blocking meds for years due to beginning told I had acid reflux. When I went gluten-free I stopped taking any med. This will go on my list to ask the gastro next month. I'm hoping he will take me seriously. I feel better gluten-free, but would love to have a totally bloat and pain free day. I have no idea what to eat anymore,sigh.....Thanks for the input.

  4. Thanks everyone. I know I'm super sensitive. I dont feel glutened, just side pain, tummy buring and bloat. I feel a little better today, but want to eat some veggies and fruit. Before going gluten-free, I ate so healthy. Salads every day with veggies/fruit/lean meat. I miss that! I rarely ate cookies etc. I ate wheat bread and oatmeal/w honey every morning if you can imagine. No wonder I was hurting so bad. Melba toast with lunch....etc

I cannot eat almonds, peanuts and brazil nuts due to allergy. I don't know what my DQ is. I think that is what was asked, sorry it was a long day in kindedrgarten and on the bus :) I'm tired and my brain is fried! I ate a simple chicken and jasmine rice today, some gastro issues, but not a lot of pain. Until I came home and ate two slices of Hormel chicken gluten-free meat with a mission corn tortila. I'll try the other veggies, thanks for the replies.

  5. pain from cooked spinach?? & you're in your 4th month gluten free??

what else did you eat today??? for breakfast? and for lunch with the spinach??? did you drink coffee today? or have dairy? or use any artificial sweeteners? or chew gum with sorbitol??

its just hard to imagine cooked spinach to be a culprit. ??

I had earl grey tea which is usually okay, Turkey meat 99% fat free with McComick garlic powder, fresh mushrooms, rice noodles, gluten-free soy sauce. gluten-free soy sauce I have had on a low pain day and it seems fine. And the cooked spinach.

I've had the rice noodles on a semi low pain day. I'm very paranoid about the gluten-free, that I wear food gloves. I dont feel glutened, just bad bloating and side pain. I'm at a loss. Only water to drink.

  6. Hi all,

I am new to this site and finding it immensely helpful! I have been gluten-free for 3 months (except for a couple of binges which I paid for!) and feeling much better. I lately found Udi's products and love the taste and texture. However, I purchased a pack of plain bagels to try recently and have had a severe case of nausea (without actual vomiting) and stomach pain each time I have eaten them. I have had 3 bagels and the same reaction each time. I have eaten them for breakfast and the symptoms start about 30 minutes after and last 10 to 12 hours. Along with the nausea I experience sweating, shaking and inability to concentrate - all of which could be caused by the severe nausea...who can think clearly when they feel they could vomit at any moment?

Obviously, I am not going to eat any more of the bagels, but nothing else has done this to me and I don't see anything in the ingredients which might cause this.

Anyone else experience this or have any info that might help?

    Thanks so much!

keep a food diary, that will help you alot. How you feel after what you eat. I'm into my 4th month gluten-free and there are foods I cannot eat. I cannot eat UDI because brown rice bothers me.

il \and error. There are so many food allergies, food intolerance. Think about getting food allergy tested. I had awful pain, dizziness, migraines etc for months/years. My son has now had vomitting at 17...he will be tested soon! Going gluten-free,. I have yet to have a migraine since then. I'm still laesrning what I can eat!

  7. My mom is the one with fructose malabsorption and she's gluten-free as well. I've seen her eat salad a lot, but she's never been one for iceburg lettuce. She eats the baby greens or romaine. She has to watch what other veggies she puts on it. She eats a lot of chef salads with hard cheese (low lactose), sliced gluten-free lunch meat, or hard boiled eggs. She looks for salad dressings that don't have HFCS added. She has the additional problem of not tolerating acid well, so oil and vinegar is out. I know she's found ranch dressings she can eat but I couldn't tell you which brands. She snacks on nuts a lot.

Like you, she needs white rice flour, not brown. Brown rice does not agree with her because of the fructans. She has trouble finding commercial gluten-free baked goods that don't have a lot of brown rice flour. I've seen her eat corn tortillas, so that's one option.

What Cass says about amounts mattering is really true for Mom. She even buys dextrose to balance her fructose:glucose ratio a little better if she's eating out and unsure about the fructose in her food.

As for probiotics, people with fructose malabsorption do not tolerate them well at all. They're generally not recommended, except perhaps gentle ones like yogurt.

I believe Mom uses this Yahoo group for help and support.

I hope this helps, although fructose malabsorption is a bit of a pain. I hope I got Dad's genes there and don't develop it later in life!

I have a quick question, do I need to be eating fructose to be tested? I want to thank you all. I stayed away from it today and my bloat is so much better. My pain is down as well! I have a small bloat, but not like before. I take this as another challenege :) I'm intersted about the dextrose. Must read up...

  8. Hi,

I am hyper-sensitive and eat Planter's south beach diet mix every day (no nuts for 2 years though at first-they can be tough to digest while healing). It's a Kraft product and the company clearly lists allergens on labels and what are produced on same lines.

    good luck!

    lisa

I agree with Oceangirl, Kraft will list it. I was eating Planters until I found out I had almond and peanut allergy. Everytime I ate them I had gastro problems.

  9. I saw a Dietician at the hospital a week ago, and honestly she had nothing to tell me that I didn't already know, all thanks to this forum! This is such a great resource, and everyone I've encountered here is so helpful and friendly. My Celiac diagnosis was really overwhelming at first. I got a phone call saying my blood tests confirmed the initial biopsy, and THAT'S IT. No follow up, not even a stinking hand out. Finding this site and forum is the only thing that got me through this, and I just wanted to thank all of you! Your advice has been right on, and as you all know, there is nothing like realizing you are not the only one out there with all these weird symptoms. Thank you!!

I can relate, I have been in some type of pain everyday since Nov 09. I was dx in May wih Celiac. My dr gave me some handouts, but it was my dietitian who only does gluten-free that was my biggest help in the beginning. She was amazing! She and my dr office both suggested this forum for me. When everyone looks at me like I'm crazy and thinks I'm nuts about CC, this forum helps me know I'm not alone.

  10. It did make sense and ramble on! It helps me alot. I'm going to try a salad tomorrow with some chicken and see how it goes. I really need to find something for lunch that won't give me so much pain and bloat. I look after two classes and my kindergarteners take some time to get settle because it's so new to them. I have about 15 minutes to eat and need something to heat fast or I prefer cold. I made some white rice muffins last week that seemed to be fine. My first attempt at baking.

  11. Fructose could be causing the bloat and gas. You are eating enough fructose in the applesauce, sweet potatoes, and squash to give yourself trouble if fructose malabsorption is your issue. Try shifting to a low FODMAP diet. Eat lots of lettuces and cooked greens, and you can add things like eggs and whatever seeds and nuts you can tolerate to fill up.

Yup, this is me, thanks for your help. It states no iceburg lettuce. Do you eat all others well? Salad dressing or make your own? I saw that everything that bothers me is in the no no list. Who knew food could get so complicated?

  12. People with fructose malabsorption generally do not tolerate probiotics because most have fructo-oligosaccharides to feed the bacteria. Are you SURE it's corn you want to give up and not fructose?

I'm ready to give it all up :) I looked at your link trying to pick some foods to eat and try the diet out. I need to read more about it, but you're right. Do you take anything like a probiotic or enzyme? It seems everytime I try them, I feel worse.

  13. So, I'm back at school handling gluten snacks for my kindergartners and helping them with lunch. I carry soft soap with me to lunch to wash hands after helping them. I wash my hands so much throughout the day and they are now cracking open. Which makes me more paranoid about touching gluten! I did buy some food gloves and plan to use them since I have wheat and barely allergy as well. Do any of you know a good gluten-free hand lotion? I'm still a newbie at all this and just about everything scares me. I was using vasline unscented lotion, it looked safe, but thought I'd get this forums opinion. Thanks in advance!

I remember a post on someone commenting on how gluten eaters eat...I totally agree. My teacher has gluten in my classroom and it kills me. Crumbs all over! I have to be so careful. I keep my desk safe!

  14. I didn't notice potatos giving me a lot of trouble, but tomatos do. My food allergy test showed I was allergic to them and I went nightshade free. When I eat tomatos my stomach burns and I have gasto problems. I tried to eat bread with potato extract and had some mild cramping in my sides. I believe for now they bother me, so I stay away. I can eat sweet potatos without any hard gastro problems.

  15. I will, I have called them but they need to ask the chemist. I expect to hear from them in about 2 weeks or less. Not a quick answer but I would rather they were through than quick. I got the Golden Violet and do hope it is safe for me as it is so pretty.

Thanks! I emailed and called them, but no response. You got further than I did! I like two colors of their lipstick, but haven't bought them because I could not get any info. I hope you hear back from them. Thanks again!

  16. I went out and got a Estee Lauder one yesterday since noplace local sells the Lancome. The only questionable item is the tocepherol but I will call them today before I use it. Love the color and am hoping the 't' is not soy derived but since my soy issues are not as severe as gluten ones I may try it even if it is. I also went to the Everyday Minerals site (found them when I did a board search) and they had a nice color on sale for $3.99 so I got that and an eyeshadow and a blush sample pack. Since I ordered a full size product the blush samples were free and the total order with shipping was only about $12. I know the Everyday Minerals is going to be safe and between the two I at least know I will have something to avoid 'naked lips' at the event. I can't wait for the wedding!!!!!!

    Thanks for your replies.

Can you post what Estee Lauder tells you? I'd love to try some of their lipsticks.

  17. Bloating usually means you aren't digesting food properly. Food allergies or intolerances, low stomach acid, depleted good intestinal bacteria, parasitic, pathogenic bacterial and/or fungal infections can all impair your gastrointestinal system's ability to digest food. Even if you don't have a true allergy, you can react to artificial sweeteners (esp. sorbitol or alcohol derived sweetners) with bloating. Other common intolerances include lactose and fructose. If you have tested for delayed reaction food allergies (IgG and/or IgA antibody mediated reactions) as well as immediate reaction (IgE mediated) food allergies, then you may want to get tested for hypochloridia (low stomach acid) and/or intestinal infections from bacteria, parasites or fungus (like candida).

After I eliminated all my diagnosed food allergies, I continued to have bloating until I replenished my good intestinal bacteria with high dose probiotics and used supplemental HCl capsules to treat hypochloridia (diagnosed by Heidelberg capsule test). Rather than just guess what causes your bloating, find a doctor or naturopath who will give you blood tests for delayed reaction food allergies as well as IgE anaphylactic reaction allergies, stool tests for pathogenic gut bugs and a Heidelberg capsule test for stomach acid production. Tests for acid in the esophasus do not measure how much acid your stomach actually produces.

Thank you so much! This gives me alot to go by. What probiotic do you use? I am thinking of going to a naturopath that someone told me about me. I go to my good gastro in Oct. he was booked for 6 weeks. However, I'm not sure if he can help me. I think I will try your suggestions.

  18. I'm bloating everyday still. I'm going into my fourth month gluten-free? I'm nightshade free, peanut free, and dairy free. What else could be causing the bloat? Just that my intestines are so messed up? I had less bloating before going gluten-free. I also am sugarfree as much as possible. No artifical sugars either. Lately I'm eating only chicken, squash, sweet potato, applesauce/w no sugar 100% natural and gluten free corn chips. I have the bloating even when I don't do corn. I cut that out to see if it helped, I didn't think so, but going to try again. I have stayed away from most gluten-free bread/pasta products as well. Any suggestions?

  19. I posted this on the pre-diagnoses but I might get more responses from the post-diagnoses section. :)

So as the description said I used to pee about every hour. I didn't drink a lot, but after measuring my input and output one day I found that I am normal, but I would always pee 3 oz, aside from when I woke up in the morning and it would be about 8 to 10 oz. The doctor told me that because my output was less then my input that there was nothing he could do, except maybe run some expensive tests, but I don't have health insurance. I have now been gluten free for over 2 months and I can now go between 2 to 4 hours without a trip to the bathroom. So has anyone else had a frequent urination problem, that has lessened or done away with the gluten free diet? Does anyone think it might be related to Celiac? Thanks :)

I was this way before going gluten-free. I would wake up in the morning and couldn't get enough to drink.
