Redbridge is widely available here. Walmart, and any large grocery stores have it. Of course Whole Foods and Central Market carry it.
I would love it if it tasted like Coors. I don't like a beer with a strong aftertaste, especailly if it's also a bad aftertaste, like the original Redbridge, which was terrible IMO. The new reformulated version is much better. I'm guessing they changed more than just the alcohol content.
best regards, lm
I was having to drive over to the next city or spend $12 for Grist beer at my local organic store. I was happy that my local Lowes Foods started carrying it. My local Walmart does not. I'm still waiting on the Synders pretzels...soon I hope!

Oh and one other thing. You may notice many other symptoms you never would have thought were related to diet clear up too. Even last night as I was lying in bed reading it occured to me that since I've been gluten free my hands and forearms never go numb anymore from holding the book too long. I haven't had a cold sore in 5 months and other even more embarrassing issues have cleared up. The main ones you'll notice right away, if you are following the diet meant for you, is no more headaches, brain fog, fatigue. Although I have to say sometimes I still have off days seemingly unrelated to being glutened. It takes a long time but it is so worth it. It is absolutely life changing in a positive way.
I was having 9-10 migraines a month! I haven't had one since going gluten-free! Hang in there, I'm going into my 4th month gluten-free. A great tip they gave me here is to keep a food diary. It will help you figure out if other foods bother you. I found out I cannot do tomatos.Hang in there!

Ordered off their gluten-free menu but it was nasty. Steak and shrimp with brocoli. Steak was tough, raw, and downright nasty. Brocoli wasn't done. Waitstaff nice and took off the bill. The whole plate looked nasty!!! Glad I didn't eat it probably wasn't gluten-free anyhow.
So came home and ate a gluten-free waffle which is carbs and sugar. Yuck.
Hate nights out like that.
I have a gluten-free friend who has eaten at our local Outback and she has done well everytime. I have yet to attempt this. I really think it depends on the cooks and how well they are. Sorry you had a bad experience.

Somewhere deep in a thread someone mentioned the Green's gluten-free Belgian ales but I think they deserve their own thread. Open Original Shared Link
They are truly gluten-free. The amber I'm drinking is made from millet, buckwheat, rice, and sorghum (plus the obligatory water, hops, and yeast).
I found them in a local store and was pleasantly surprised. They are fairly expensive, at $5.69 for a 500 ml bottle but they are the first really convincing gluten-free beers I've had. I got the amber ale and the dubble. Both are really good, with a lot more grain flavor than other gluten-free beers I've tried. I am particularly fond of the dubble, which is the closest I've come to an oatmeal stout since going gluten-free. The amber is good as well, without the hoppiness that I dislike in other gluten-free beers I've tried.
Overall I'm impressed and will probably buy them again on occasion. It's nice to have a good beer when everyone else is having Guinness!
I like them as well. I found them at a local organic market. I agree with you, a little more expensive, but worth the flavor.

Before you swear off mixes completely, try the Betty Crocker Gluten Free Brownie Mix. I add a half cup of chocolate chips to it, and they come out incredibly dense and fudgy.
Last weekend, I served them to gluten eaters who absolutely loved them!
I'm going to have to try this! What brand do you use? Milk chocolarte or semi sweet? Betty Crocker gluten-free Brownies are good. The chocolate chip cookies..iffy
What brand of icing to you all use?

I know I for one, after going gluten free have a much easier time regulating my emotions. The wild roller coaster of feelings is gone. My overwhelming anxiety is gone. My depression for the most part is gone. My mania is gone...
Is there anyone that has been diagnosed with depression, bi-polar disorder, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, or some other form of mental illness that found they had a marked improvement on a gluten free diet, if so what are you recovered from? Also are there any problems that have not improved, or have become worse?
I was going through a migraine med a month. Anxiety and depression started in high school.I had post partum depression with my children. An eating disorder followed, plus other medical issues. They are all better now! I'm three months into my gluten-free diet. I haven't had a migraine since June! That's crazy, my Neuro cannot believe it! I cannot believe it! I was having 9 plus migraines a month! My mood is better, my brain fog gone! My depression is better, but not totally gone. My eating disorder behaviors are better! I am still having gastro issues, not as bad pain, but pain with eating no matter if it is gluten-free. I feel my gallbladder has issues even if they tell me it is in functioning range. So, I still have pain everyday, but it's better, I have bloating everday, depends on what I eat. I'm cutting out more than gluten now. I'm glad for the improvements, but would love a pain free day!

I spent the first weekend on the couch after being dx Celiac : ( I was so sad at first, then angry. I get sad, angry or anxious from time to time. My extended family doesn't get it much. While they had deluxe subs, I had my gluten-free sammy. I couldn't use the veggies they had because they already had pre cut on a cutting board, emptied the bag etc. I am back at work at school, teacher workdays are hard. They went out to eat at Olive Garden yesterday. Even though they have a limited gluten-free menu, it was 12:30, there was no way I was going to risk it. I ate the food I brought. It makes me very sad at times, but I don't want to miss the socializing. Smelling their Subway subs has been hard too. When they placed breadsticks in front of me yesterday I almost freaked! I had one teacher to be so nice to remove them, however my teacher doesn't want me to talk about celiac at all.
Long time gluten-free eaters, does it come a time you accept this and don't look at others food and long for it? I know I feel better gluten-free and it's posion to me, but I still have my mouth water at certain foods.

and Vulvodynia.com are pretty good with info. Sorry can't get links to work out well.

I have vulvodynia, too, actually a type that is called vestibulitis. I was diagnosed with that before I was diagnosed with celiac disease. Unfortunately, I haven't noticed much symptom relief since going gluten-free, which I had hoped would be the case. I've always wondered if there is a connection with these two diseases, and because they are both auto-immune diseases, I'm sure there is.
I'd love to know if you learn any more about this connection. I've had pretty consistent symptoms of the vestibulitis since I was diagnosed with it five years ago and would like to find out more. My doctor had some suggestions that were mostly surgical and I was very against, so I'm all for learning about more natural approaches to dealing with this.
I was diagnosed 6 years ago with Vestibulitis! Wow! It's amazing how things connect with Celiac. I avoid riding bikes, scented soaps and I always try to use a cushion on hard chairs or benches. I have to limit my time swimming also. Right now I can't wear jeans because of my side pain. I can't stand to have the pressure on them.
I was having migraines really bad for 13 years, and they have now stopped after going gluten-free.

eHello All:
I rarely follow cooking shows ... they make me too uncomfortable too squirmy ...
But the latest Food Newtwork star is named Aarti Sequeria and she makes food with an Indian flair and I was SOOOOOOO happy she won because she is very talented and Indian food is my
all time favorite cuisine to cook at home.
I found this on her blog today. Her first episode of her cooking show was on today.
Turns out she's not celiac but gluten gives her tremendous problems so now her cooking is even closer to my heart.
One of her recipes is for quinoa porridge:

And her blog recipe is also very entertaining and I thought some of you might enjoy it very much.
I liked her first show - she made pistachio kulfi pops ... and made it very easy to follow.
She also made a kale salad with mangoes, gorgeous!!
And not so interesting to me were her sloppy bombay joes (turkey with a kind of tikka masala sauce) on buns.
Anyhow I wanted to share. I hope to follow this show for some time to come and see what else she comes up with.
Namaste, everyone!
~Allison
I love her and I did follow the show. She was my favorite, I didn't know about the gluten-free! I haven't seen her show yet. I'm a foodtv junkie, but since going gluten-free it's been bittersweet. Thanks for posting this.

Hello all!
I used to bake a lot of different things, one being cornbread. After seeing the recipes here, I wanted to give it a shot. I went to buy cornmeal and the store had three. It was not the mixes. On the lable of two was may contain wheat. The other made on same lines. Is there a brand that has done well by you? I understand it being made in the same plant etc, but it's frustrating. I'm finishing my 3rd month gluten-free and I'm trying hard not to mess up. Thanks!!
-
I also forget words several times a day. I will be talking to people at work and I can not remeber a word that I want to say. It is usually a common word like cup or stappler but I cannot rememer how to say a word.
People usually have to finish my sentence for me. That is so irritating.
I was the same way! I also couldn't think clearly, easy confused. I also would wake up in the morning and could not seem to fully wake up. My mind was "sleepy" until about noon.

Go to PF Changs. If I recall correctly, there are just a few items and of course most of them are salads. I think there was fish and a burger without bun.
We ended up at Harpers. They had three salads two you can add chicken or shrimp. Steaks the burger and salmon. Baked lemon chicken, grilled chicken tenders, bbq chicken and ribs. A veggie plate, plus all sandwiches can be made without the bread. They say the fries are gluten-free, and there are some sides. Baked potato and sweet potato, coleslaw, veggies etc. It wasn't as many as pfchang, but a nice change. I got the salmon and did fine. Their menu is pdf or I would add a link to it. Thanks for the replies!

I'm in Matthews and I have been to Harpers, it is over by the side entrance of Dillard's. I went last summer and have not returned. The gluten-free menu was very limited and I wasn't impressed. However, you will not get glutened there.
The mall area also has:
Olive Garden-gluten-free menu
Longhorn Steakhouse-lots of gluten-free options
Bucca-wonderful Caprese salad
Taco Bell-allergy menu
Is the menu more limited than pf Changs? I'm alright with a few choices at this time, if they are very careful with CC. Thanks for the info! I'm driving in from the other side of Charlotte.
-
Thank you both for your replies
I think it might help me since I'm in my third month gluten-free. You can buy a version that searches for updated everytime you look something up. I never buy a product without reading the lable, it takes me a long time to shop
My dietition told me about Kraft and the other companies you listed, thank you BTW. You all have been a big help!
-
Has anyone been to this location? They have a gluten-free menu, was wondering if anyone had a good experience here. Thanks!
-
Does anyone use their gluten-free list for food and drugs? If so, how well do you like them? Thanks!
-
It sounds like you had a skin test for food allergies. The problem with skin testing is we don't put food under our skin when we eat. We put it in our digestive systems and often use eating utensils so the food never touches our skin. Skin tests are fine for ruling out IgE antibody mediated allergens (immediate, anaphylactic rea tions) . However most food allergies are delayed reactions caused IgG or IgA mediated antibodies. So blood tests more accurately diagnosed most food allergies.
Thanks, I know I have celiac, but will think about further blood testing. Thanks!

Hi everyone!
I found out this morning that I am allergic to tomato, peanuts, almond, brazil nuts, and cantalope. I reacted to wheat and barely also. She was alittle surpprised. She said she doesn't see many celiacs that are also allergic to wheat and barely. She was well informed on what Celiac is and why my skin wouldn't react to the wheat because Celiac is an auto immune disease. Being Celiac and a wheat/barely allergy? Anyone else? How common? My back feels not so good. What do you all think of this?
-
Totally jealous! I have not found them in NC yet.
I'm in NC as well! I look at every store I go to, I'm looking forward to trying them! I just found gluten-free Bisquick.
-
Let me know what you think of this. Unfortunately it's quite spendy $35 for the article but was written by experts from Harvard and Beth Deaconess for the European Journal of Gastroentrology (sp?). I too have Bulimia and am almost certain I cause Celiacs (if not Celiac type symptoms) and wonder if maybe in ED as opposed to genetic cases, the Celiacs could be reversed by discontinuing the ED.
"The interaction between eating disorders and celiac disease: an exploration of 10 cases/"
This is something I haven't thought about before. I would almost think it was the Celiac that lead us to be more likely to have an eating disorder. If Celiac can cause depression etc, I can see it causing the ED? Something to think on. I'm going to research it.

I don't usually put this out there, but I suffer from eating disorder non specific. I started out a true bulimic, but ended up with anorexic behaviors. If you have Celiac, you've always had it. Whether the ED triggered it, you'll never know. I've always had digestive problems. Going gluten free, my behaviors have gotten better. I suggest you get the blood test done and move on from that. Keep eating gluten to get a true test result. I hope this link works, this is a very good site about eating disorders. It really helped me and I highly suggest it. You won't feel crazy or alone. I understand. I may be a newbie to gluten-free, but I totally get EDs.
Get the blood test and I hope you will think about an eating disorder group or therapy. I didn't check your profile, may I ask how old you are?
An eating disorder is used as a coping mechanism, a co dependency. Once this starts it can spin totally out of control. It is about control. What you might not be able to control in one part of your life, you can control your body. Some people stay in denial of their ED. Just as someone can be bi polar, having an eating disorder is an illness as well.

Diagnosing lectin sensitivities is not an easy task because there are so many lectin families, of which the nightshade one is perhaps the most prevalent on the board. Of course there are lectins in gluten too and in many other grains, including buckwheat, millet and quinoa. I do not tolerate quinoa but the other two are okay. I was sensitive to so many legumes that I have excluded the whole family, including green beans and peas (these I challenged - and reacted to - because I had read that I might tolerate those)., Corn is also a common lectin intolerance, as is dairy. And soy and peanuts rank highly too. So to do it the proper way, you would cut out alll those lectin families, and introduce members of them one at a time. That would mean a diet of meats, rice (preferably white), non-nightshade vegetables, fruits, seeds, kind of the basic paleo diet.
To test lectins,I would start with potato, and then tomato. If both of these are okay you will probably be okay with the rest of the nightshadest. Do not muddy up your testing. Take one lectin food at a time and go through one group at a time. Then move on to the next. When testing a food, try to make it a single ingredient food, or that ingredient combined with only known safe foods, so that the results are clear.
Good luck, and let us know how you get on.
Thank you so much, I was free of all of these today and had the best day so far going gluten-free! I did eat some corn chips, had some pain and bloating, but not as bad. It seems kinda sad to give up alot, but I'm trying to stay positive! I need to try new foods.
I read testing should be after a year free of all of these?? What's your thoughts on this?
-
For all of you that are nighshade and Lectin sensitive any help for a newbie? I've been reading older post and I feel like I need to try these diets. I'm not sure which direction to head in and what do I eat? It seems overwhleming, but I don't want to bloat or have pain. Thanks!

Being a newbie 3 months in for gluten-free diet, I will not eat shareded equipment. I try to limit the gluten in my house., I love trader joes for some of the deli meat and produce. I do not buy their items that are produced on shared items. Mostly becauced I am so new to this and I like less pain free days.
