    We are all different for sure. I sprinkle the Udi buns with a little water, wrap in foil and warm in the oven. I didn't like them at first until I did this. I can't eat them often because of the corn.I do react to gluten and get really sick. My doctor told me that my Celiac was awake for many years due to all my damage. I didn't know I had it until I got so sick and lost so much weight. I didn't know I had it until I was in so much pain. Please don't feel attacked. Here we only care about people and the ones that have been gluten-free for so long are a great source of gluten-free wisdom. They care about newbies and all. Cheating for me is never an option and should never be for anyone. I'm gluten free of course, nut free, tomato free, soy free, and corn free(I can tolerate some corn products every now and then)I also avoid nightshades. I'm mostly dairy free, but can have some hard cheese. You do what you have to to feel well and be pain free. You don't want to get to the point where there is pain. Google the bun suggested and you probably can buy it online. Good luck and take care.

  2. All great responses for you! I'm a southern girl and gluten-free Bisquick is my friend! I don't fry things much, but have used rice flour to fry pork chops and make gravy that my kids loved. Experiment with the gluten-free bisquick (you can find recipes online) and Betty Crocker mixes, they are good for starters. I make fresh strawberry or blueberry muffins with the cake mix. It's overwhelming at first, but soon you'll have some of your favorites back!! You don't need to buy a lot of different things at first, just think what your family would normally eat and how to replace that. The baking and recipe forum here is a great place for advice!!

    I'm a teachers assistant. I've had so much happen this summer! I also got moved to a new school and I'm having some problems with anxiety. My eating has been way off because of this. Most people I know start to get back on a schedule, but I usually jump back in!

  4. I'm going to say what you may not want to hear. Bring your own food. It is sad at first, but to be well and pain free it is best! There may be a resturant or you may be able to trust. I had a chic-fil-a today have a manager put on gloves and make me a brand new salad. That was a first! It gets better to accept being gluten free as you feel better! For me anyway. Good luck!I couldn't think of eating out 5 days a week after having pain free days, it's not worth it to me.

  5. Thanks everyone. I plan to make some of those suggestions. There was a fifth date ;) He is wanting me to meet his son and taking us to Outback. I've not been there since going gluten-free because I'm pretty sensitive. How should I order to be the safest? I'm sure he will order gluten-free also. I have a week to figure it out.

  6. Thanks everyone, it was an amazing night! I had roasted whole chicken with herbs, lemons, limes with butter and olive oil rubbed. I also had multi colored potatos and fresh green beans! He doesn't get home cooking much and he loved it. I had a great time. I'm so happy to have someone that cares enough to be gluten-free with me at my home and resturants.

  7. It's our fourth date and the first time I'm cooking for him. He has eaten gluten-free everytime we go out to make it easier for me. He isn't really picky, just no tomatos or mushrooms. I was going to roast a chicken with lemon and basil, some fancy potatos and a veggie??? I''d like it to be easy, but good! I'm only going to have two hours or so to cook. He loves pasta. Anyone got a different side salad idea? Thanks everyone!

  8. Hello all. I'm a newbie, diagnosed in May with celiac disease after the blood tests and biopsy. My diagnosis came after 4 years of lots of issues (which I'm sure you hear all the time) but what finally got me to demand an answer was the horrific reflux and vomiting I started to experience about 6 months ago. Last month during a doctor visit he told me that once I go gluten-free my symptoms should subside pretty drastically within a month. Well, I spent the morning puking and running to the bathroom. I guess I'm just looking for some reassurance that it will, indeed, get better eventually.

    I was in pain and had issues for almost a year. It wasn't until I gave up corn and soy that I had a pain free day. Gluten can be everywhere in a shared household. I was CC myself in the beginning a lot. You need your own toaster and strainer, cutting board etc. It's a lot to wrapped your mind around in the beginning, but with time, it does get better! Read and read here you will learn a lot to help you. Keep a food diary also to help you figure out if other foods bother you. Everyone is different, it depends on how much damage you have. It will get better!!! It takes time, be patient with yourself and know you're learning how to be gluten-free. Right now I would focus on any CC in your home. Make sure your food is on a top shelf. Baggies to hold food in fridge is good. Seperate condiments etc. Probiotics and vitamins as well! Hang in there!!

  9. Ever since I joined I have read about others wonderful experiences eating out. I've had so so results and some getting sick. Well, I had the most AMAZING dining experience since going gluten-free!! Blue restaurant in Charlotte NC was wonderful! The chefs Mother has to be gluten-free and they take it very serious there, I was so impressed! When I asked if the salad had tomatos on it, the server immediately asked me if it was an allergy! Which it is.It was expensive, yes, however, worth every penny to have such an amazing dinner and not be sick!!!! Yay!!! The food was wonderful! The last two times I've eaten out, I've gotten sick. This was truly such a wonderful treat!

  10. I may have jury duty this week, crossing fingers I won't be called. I know the jury room has a fridge, but I don't want my open food containers around all those people. Especially if I'm out of the jury room. For some reason that bothers me. So, some ideas on what to take that I can keep in my pocetbook? For some reason I'm drawing a blank because I need to be gluten-free, corn free, nut free and soy free. I've thought of some kettle chips and fruit. I also don't eat preservatives when I can help it. I've done jello okay in the past. The cocoa pebble bars bother me that I once kept in my pocketbook. Thanks

  11. I know it's gluten-free, my DR checked for me on glutenfreedrugs.com. Just wondering if anyone has used this before and your experiece with it. I know we all react different to meds, just wondering. I'm needing alittle help getting over this broken heart. I had my first anxiety attack yesterday in a long time. Thanks everyone

  12. I agree with you on that. As I said, I only have these things once in a while. The oatmeal is for the kids mostly. Usually I eat after I have taken the kids to school and get a Jamba Juice (of wich I read the ingredients of in the available book) or some eggs and bacon. I stay away from sausage. Carolinakip & love2travel, you have to go to Starbucks if you are a coffee drinker. They know me by name at a couple of the local stores in my town :D . I even went to Starbucks when my family (Wife, kids, mother and niece) traveled to France and England. The Cafe Creme was much better than Starbucks over there though.

    I love coffe Ray, but even after a year, too afraid to go try them. Starbucks was a 30 minute drive for me until about a year ago, then I got one in my town. I was DX by then and learning how to be gluten-free.

  13. Our family will be in Charleston,SC (Historic District) for one day this month. The hotel has a refrigerator, but not a microwave. Does anyone know where I can find a safe gluten free breakfast (sit down restaurant) or maybe a bakery in Historic downtown Charleston?

    How about a good place to eat lunch?

    Tommy Condon's has a gluten-free menu for lunch and dinner. It's a small menu, I tried to link it here, but couldn't.It was easy to google. It's a small menus. I haven't been there, just got this info from my dietitian.
