  1. I used to love KIND bars but began to react to them last spring and thought I was getting cross-contaminated. Since then I have been diagnosed with a sulfite intolerance, and looking back, my GI reactions were likely due to the sulfites in the dried fruits. Just something to consider. I was able to eat KIND bars for my first 2 years being gluten-free without a problem.

  2. I have reacted to just about all of the Chex as well over the past 2 years. Since then I've discovered that I have a sulfite intolerance, and looking back, I was probably getting sick from the molasses in all of them (molasses has a high natural sulfite load). The Apple Cinnamon Chex actually contain enough sulfites that General Mills is forced to label it, so if you want to test yourself to see if you are reacting to sulfites you can eat the Apple Cinnamon Chex and then see how you feel (for me, sulfites cause GI symptoms which feels like gluten cross contamination).

  3. I am a pediatrician and I take care of predominantly newborn infants. I have been seeing more and more infants with cow's milk protein allergies/intolerances over the last 5 years than in the past. I am interested in this diagnosis because two of my four kids had issues with milk protein as infants (before I was diagnosed and gluten free). I have been unable to find any research linking cow's milk protein problems in babies with maternal celiac disease. I suspect that the 2 problems are linked and am considering doing a research study on this. In my case, my babies reacted to milk protein which passed into my breastmilk. Have any of you mothers on here had babies who do not tolerate cow's milk protein? Please message me if you can. If there are enough of us, then it will tip me toward trying to examine this scientifically.

  4. Hi Heather,

    Balsamic vinegar does not contain gluten and is safe for celiacs. Many salad dressings do contain gluten though, so I stick with plain old olive oil and balsamic vinegar when I have salads at restaurants.

    Your bloating and abdominal cramping are pretty tyical symptoms for getting glutened.
