I just went through previous threads and read that people have found grains in Bob Redmill's lentils as well.
Has anyone tried Arrowhead Mills lentils?
-
I've gotten sick with lentils. For now I'm just avoiding them but I would LOVE to be able to reintroduce them if anyone knows of a safe brand.
I've never found any in my Eden Foods dry green lentils. Has anyone had a problem with those?
All other lentils I've tried, especially Timeless Foods, have had wheat berries in them.

Hi everyone,
If you aren't aware of the cross contamination problem with dry lentils (even packaged), check out this link/video here: Open Original Shared Link
I've been really frustrated lately because my favorite dry black lentils from Timeless Foods used to be safe for me. But recently, I started developing itching in my mouth after eating them and G.I. symptoms 8-12 hours later. So, I dumped out a whole bag of them and guess what I found? 6 grains! I'm not sure what kind of grain kernels they were, but it looks like wheat. Nonetheless, they're contaminated.
Have you all found a brand of lentils that works for you, that you haven't found to be contaminated with grains?
-I have never had a problem with Eden Foods green lentils.
-Obviously, Timeless Foods black lentils are now unsafe for me (I assume their other lentils are too).
How about you?

Hi everyone,
I'm currently trying to figure out if my symptoms are related to cross contamination from dried lentils (Timeless Natural Food brand), cross contamination from my gluten-eating family members (happens a LOT), or if it's the new paper towels that we got yesterday.
I'm severely allergic to corn, and I'm celiac. I was wondering if anyone with the same issues has had problems with paper towels? I believe these are Brawny. When I opened the package, I noticed a strong smell. They leave a strong smell on my hands as well. It's not a perfumey/fragrance smell...I was worried because it smells more grainy. But I'm not sure if I'm being paranoid.
I would love to hear any thoughts, experiences or information that anyone has.

I'm currently trying to figure out which foods in my diet are "glutening" me. I'm on a rotation diet that has excluded all foods that I have tested allergic to, so in theory my allergies should be getting better and I should not be having daily allergic reactions. In the beginning of the rotation diet, things were going great. Now though, I'm having reactions almost every day.
The only thing I've changed is the brand of the foods that I'm getting. I've been shopping at Trader Joe's more often now because it's more affordable. Here are the products from Trader Joe's that I am using:
Quinoa (manufactured on equipment shared with allergens)
Olive Oil
Grapeseed Oil
Wild Rice (manufactured on equipment shared with allergens)
Butter
Cubed Butternut Squash
Frozen Chopped Spinach
Frozen Blueberries
Lamb
Does anyone who is sensitive to cross contamination have issues with Trader Joe's products? If so, which ones? Are there any that are "safe" or that you can tolerate?
Thank you!

Hi everyone,
If you were allergic to nuts, especially peanuts, would you consume a product that is made in a peanut free facility but "is packaged in a facility that also packages tree nuts"?
Peanuts are my worst allergy, and I'm not sure if I'm allergic to other nuts in the same way.
I just bought Klein Family Farms Arroyo Seco raw sunflower kernels. Their packaging says "Packaged in a facility that also packages tree nuts. This bad may contain other organic pieces. Peanut Free Facility."
The company is Klein Bros. and is based out of Stockton, CA.
If you had a nut allergy, would you feel comfortable eating a product like this? It does not note the the packaging equipment is shared. That is unclear. It must be though, if they note that there could be other organic pieces in the bag?
Is it a requirement for manufacturers to wash the packaging equipment between each product? Could there also be dust from nuts?
I'd call the company, but it's Sunday today and there's no number listed on the bag.
I wonder if it'd be helpful to wash the seeds?
I would just love any input anyone has. Thank you.

Ground flaxseed is readily available, but needs to be stored in the refrigerator. It is always best to grind it fresh if you can. The nutritionist I went to was really on about rancidity of seeds, oils, nuts, etc.
Thank you. Is it possible to grind it by hand?
-
I was wondering what the healthiest, easiest to absorb form of flax is, and how much is recommended to consume daily.
I have been using flaxseed oil, about 3 tablespoons every other day, but this seems like a lot.
I think I'd like to try actual flax seeds, but I'm not sure which for is the healthiest and easiest to digest. I know it's probably best to buy them whole and grind them myself, but I don't have a coffee grinder or pepper/seed grinder.
Is buying flax seeds that are already ground not as healthy as grinding them myself? Does Trader Joe's or other chain stores sell flax that's already ground?
Thank you.

Thanks you guys. I'm so disappointed to hear this! I'm extremely allergic to gluten, peanuts and a number of other things so it's so difficult to find safe products due to cross contamination.
I have a whole jar of Arrowhead Mills tahini sitting here! Anyone know of a company that makes tahini that isn't cross contaminated with peanuts or gluten?
-
Hi everyone,
I just called Arrowhead Mills because I'm a little hesitant to try their Tahini (sesame seed butter) because on the jar it states that it "may" contain traces of peanut, soy or wheat. I'm very very allergic to all three!
The woman that I spoke with on the phone explained that their products are made on equipment that processes all allergens, and though they are cleaned between batches, they do not test their products for contamination.
Has anyone gotten sick from Arrowhead Mills products? It makes me nervous because Tahini and nut/seed butters are so sticky...I feel like they could pick up residue on equipment. I really don't want my throat to start swelling because a peanut particle made it into my tahini!

Hi everyone,
I was wondering which gluten free online store has the best selection and best prices? I'm looking to buy an amaranth product (either the grain or a hot cereal, etc.) online, but I'd like to buy it from a source that is known to have good prices and a nice selection, so I could perhaps order something else to ship with it.
Thank you!

Hi everyone,
I've been on a rotation diet for a while now, but I'm allergic to so many foods that I only have enough safe ones for a 3 day rotation. I do well with brown rice and wild rice, and I rotate those, but I need more calories on the third day and I'm thinking of adding black rice. I don't know if that's enough rotation though...it's still eating rice every day.
I know brown rice and wild rice are different enough, and it was working if I placed 1 day in between eating them, but is black rice too similar to wild or brown rice to put it into the rotation? I don't know enough about my rices, so any information you have would be helpful. Thank you!

Hi everyone,
I'm a little nervous that tonight, I'm sharing the oven. My sweet potato is in the oven, uncovered, with glutenous garlic bread and teriyaki chicken. The bread is on the lower rack and my potato is in a pan above it, which is next to a pan of chicken (I'm allergic to gluten, soy, poultry, etc. etc.).
Everyone is being careful of crumbs and drippings whatnot, but all of the steam...does the steam and air/heat carry allergens?
Or...am I being paranoid?
Do you folks who live in a gluten eating household share the oven while it's in use? Does the steam or particles in the air in the oven make you sick?
Thank you...

Hi, I was wondering if you Canadians could list some of the packaged gluten free snacks that you are able to find in Canada, as well as premade or frozen meals or side dishes.
I'm from America, but a friend from Canada is going gluten free and I have no idea if the products I am recommending can be found there too. Is there a list out there of products that can be found in Canada?
Thank you!
-
I'm personally on the West Coast, but I have friends across the U.S. and in Canada that are feeling lost when it comes to being allergen free and trying to grocery shop. I've found product lists for them from Trader Joe's, Wegmans and Whole Foods, but I can't find any others. Anyone know of any other stores that have lists available online?
Almond Butter That Is Made In A Gluten Free And Peanut Free Facility?
in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

Unfortunately, the only safe almond butter that I've been able to find is Artisana's Roasted Almond Butter, but they're discontinuing it! I'm not sure what I'll eat for breakfast anymore. Such a bummer.
I don't consume any sugar, and I have such extensive food allergies that I don't want to purchase an almond butter that has an added oil. That cancels out Barney Butter's new "Bare" line because it has palm oil added to it.
Does anyone know of a company that produces their almond butter in a peanut free and gluten free facility, and only uses just plain almonds in the jar? Preferably roasted, because I tried purchasing Artisana's raw almond butter today and it was icky. It was all dried out and cakey. Thank you!
