I'll be a freshman in the fall and I was blessed enough to get a full-ride scholarship to a private university. I can live on campus for free and be exempt from the meal plan because of celiac disease. The university is in my hometown, just 5 or so miles from my house. I'm leaning towards living at home, but, I'd like to hear opinions & experiences from other people.
The only concerns I have is there's one bathroom per hall and rooming with a non-celiac (unless I can scout for a gluten-free roomie...)
All my friends are saying living on campus for that "college experience" but, I'm not so convinced. I plan on joining SGA and pledging with Alpha Sigma Tau to get involved around campus.
Any thoughts would be appreciated :]

Hi,
I was wondering if some of you ladies could give some insight. I've missed two my periods and the last period I had was in mid-November. It concerns me, considering my periods are extremely painful w/ heavy bleeding, lasting always 7+ days then suddenly there's nothing. For the past month and a half, I've experienced severe lower right abdomen pain and severe pelvic pain, that sometimes goes into the small of my back. Could this possibly be an ovarian cyst? There's no chance of pregnancy, as I've never been sexually active.
I've also gained 20 lbs and had a bladder infection. I just went in Friday for blood work and an X-ray.
Any thoughts would be appreciated :]

population drops 40 IQ points and turns into IDIOTS.
You should have to pass an IQ test to drive on the road.
Bahaha :] I feel the same way...then again, we're not use to snow here in TN.
I love the snow because it rarely snows here expect on the plateau. It was a senior year miracle! We got snow days lol right before exams, too. Big stress relief.

Hi! Welcome Ms. Skinny Chic :]
I dealt with malabsorption from my diganosis date until after being gluten for a year and half. I really can't suggest anything but reinforce what everyone else has said. It's very difficult and takes time & patience to deal with. Hope the board proves useful.
Let me know if you need anything else. Take care,

Ashley, good to see you back in the friendly place we call psillyville.
Up here, snow is something we grumble about but expect.
I first saw your new av in another thread. I thought, geez, that is some dandruff--oh wait, could it be snow... And you say it was.
Enjoy the day off tomorrow, Ash. For us, snow or no snow, work goes on.
Hello Peter!
Ha, guess I'm gonna have to ask Santa for some industrial-sized Head & Shoulders for Christmas to take care of that 'dandruff'
Oh my goodness, I wouldn't know what do if I lived in Canada! I'm so afraid of driving in the snow. everyone here acts as if it were dandruff failing from the sky lol

I've also developed an apperciation for tofu, if prepared correctly. It's so yummy in Amy's Santa Fe Bowls...

Coming from a large Italian family, I would eat gluten in a heartbeat, if I could...

Good Morning, Psillies!
Welcome Acshleygh! We haven't had any newbies lately who have stuck around for very long - - so there is a lot riding on yer shoulders!
Um .. . . I have invited two or three forum newbies to join us over here in the last couple of months, and not a single one has even peeked in that I know of. .. . .... . . ...
Not one!. . .....(true)... . . ...
Am I frightening them with my mere invitations? Promises of penis-sling flowcharts, CPR songs, frank discussions on decapitation. .. . ....... .. .
Well i've endured the CPR songs and decapitation lessons in EMS so I think I'll make it I've just haven't posted because of being busy with school.

One time, I had this girl ask me if I needed a special sofa to sit on. I've laughed so many times over that question. I don't know what a sofa has to do with gluten, but, okay.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone
Ha, that's great because I'm a terrible speller. I tried to tell my AP teacher that my 'unique spelling' gives my paper 'personality' yeah right!
I'm up for some goofyball-antics after all the stress of school!
Wait, why should I be afraid of Emily? lol
lol, actually I mispelled my name on purpose in K-3 because there was SO many Ashleys! I've been Ashlee, Ashleigh, Ashlea...

Hi guys
I decided to join in after Psawyer invited me.

I would have said, "Well, 'cause it takes forever to find my wallet, I guess I won't have to pay for my groceries today, huh?" Actually, I probably would have told her to do her job or I'll ask for management. I can't stand stupid people like that. Sorry you had to deal with that :[

Definitely tell your teachers. Especially concerning emergency bathroom trips. I'm taking several AP classes myself and got in the same situation in AP Gov't during an unit test. I knew my teacher wouldn't let me stop mid-way so I rushed through it and failed it, just to use the bathroom.
I had my doctor fax a statement to the school, then which was forwarded to all my teachers. There's no problem now and I really don't have to say anything other than "I need to go."
I never really eat much before finals or mid-terms, to avoid any emergencies like that.
Good luck and never take anything off a teacher about this problem. But I'm sure your teachers will be understanding

It depends if your son can tolerate the exposure to all that gluten. I worked at Maggie Moos for a year and a half before I had to quit. I constantly got sick, especially from cooking the waffle cones. For awhile, I was fine. Then, later on, I would get migraines almost every shift.
But, if your son can bear, make sure that he wears gloves whenever possible. And wash wash wash wash his hands! But, as long as he is not around the food cooking, I think he'll be all right. Also, letting his boss know that he has Celiac could help, too. My employer was very understanding about it.
Good luck to you and your son!

I'm so excited I turned 18 Tuesday and I'm going tomorrow to register!

Does anyone listen to them? I absolutely love Andrew McMahon. I can't wait until The Glass Passenger releases September 30th---my 18th birthday! It's the ultimate gift, ever!

I'm the only one . . . though, I strongly believe my mother has Celiac Disease as well. She refuses to do a biopsy due the fear of being put down under. She had inconclusive blood tests, then they were negative. But, she's got so many symptoms.
It gets furstrating. I have to constantly clean everything or get cross-contaminated.

I noticed about a few months before getting D'xed that my scalp was always itchy or broke out in red, painful bumps. There are plently of gluten-free shampoos out there. Definitely ditch anything that has hyrdolized wheat protein in it. Also avoid wheat germ, germ, oats, and so on.
