ARCHIVED The "kill A Celiac" Diet
squirmingitch replied to bigbird16's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
A laugh a day... & I just got mine! Thanks IH! To the OP, well, you know, some people will buy into anything. But good golly Miss Molly 12 slices of bread a day??? WTF??? -
ARCHIVED Esophagogastroduodenoscopy
squirmingitch replied to roxieb73's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
And Roxie, between now & then gorge yourself on all the gluteny things you love the best. Make a total pig of yourself! Maybe it will make you so sick of those food items that when you go gluten-free you'll never miss them & will in fact gag at the very thought of them. A little psychological warfare never hurt anyone. -

ARCHIVED Newbie Looking For Advice...
squirmingitch replied to roxieb73's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
And Roxie, I know from your other thread that you're going to try to stay on gluten till the tests are done & then go gluten-free no matter what the tests say. So here's what you can do in the meantime: Go thorough your entire kitchen with a magic marker & read the ingredients on everything. Mark everything that is gluten-free with a big gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED Afraid To Say It Out Loud
squirmingitch replied to bartfull's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Awwwww, that's okay; I'll take the breakfast shift as long as someone else makes the pastries & breads. Then I'll be happy to serve them up as well as cook bacon, eggs, sausage, grits, ham...whatever. As long as the guests don't expect me to make morning chit chat. I tend to be on auto pilot in the morning. Than I'll go take a nap & join y'all for... -
ARCHIVED Fried Chicken Nuggets --- Crispy! Help! Recipe Please!
squirmingitch replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi all! Last night I tried 2 of the recipes. Catsmeow's tapioca starch recipe & maryshe's cornstarch recipe. Hey, I was frying..... might as well try 2 at one time. I have to say they were both good. The tapioca one really did taste much like KFC! The coating was a little tough but I attribute that most likely to the fact that I don't use a fryer; I... -
Well it sounds as if things are a bit better today. Yay for small gifts! I know it's very difficult to say things to our parents which we know will upset them. It's hard to take an immovable stance & lay down the law to our parents no matter how old we get or how unreasonable they are being. They are our parents! We are programmed to try & please...

ARCHIVED 5 Year Old -- Does She Need A Biopsy?
squirmingitch replied to stacytr's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I've seen amounts listed as the equivalent of 3 & 4 slices of bread per day if that helps any. -
ARCHIVED ?early Or Mild Dh?
squirmingitch replied to Razzle Dazzle Brazell's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I don't know why you should suffer so your doc can see it. Can you call the doc & hop in real quickly tomorrow so doc can see it? If not, then I say take photos of it & keep written notes on when it began etc.... details, details. -
ARCHIVED ?early Or Mild Dh?
squirmingitch replied to Razzle Dazzle Brazell's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I think it could be early dh or the pre-dh if you will. Or it could be dh. What ever it is I feel it's gluten related for sure. And it scares the heck out of me (for you). My hubs & I have been talking about looking back now & realizing the things going on with our skin in certain instances was in actuality dh, or pre-dh. For example, for several... -
ARCHIVED Id For Gluten Intolerant
squirmingitch replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I will die if I have penicillin. Even in the ER they probably won't be able to save me. I got one of those USB medical alert bracelets. I went ahead & put the celiac info. on it as well as iodine since that makes the dh flare. I can update the USB anytime. -
ARCHIVED On The Subject Of Memory Problems
squirmingitch replied to Newtoitall's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was so bad off memory wise that I often could not remember the name of things like "fork", "plate", "knife" & forget (ha-ha) about me remembering just about anything at all! What's for dinner? I don't remember. Did I check the mail today? What day is this? What day is this? What day is this? all in the space of a half hour. My mom's side of the family... -
Dani, I'm so sorry your mom is acting this way. What does your dad say? Or is he under the influence of your mom? I don't have any great or witty answers for you. Your mom is going to be the way she is & that's all there is to it. I have an idea she has been like this all your life. I agree, you just get on with your gluten-free life & be happy...

ARCHIVED Genetic Test Results........
squirmingitch replied to roxieb73's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I completely understand what you're saying Roxie! Totally! But that's why I wanted to warn you; so you would know. So very many people go off gluten before all the testing is done or go gluten light or go off & on & then they just end up frustrated with the tests. Not to mention when they try to go back on gluten to re-do the tests they can rarely... -
ARCHIVED Genetic Test Results........
squirmingitch replied to roxieb73's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
ROXIE, ROXIE, ROXIE!!!!!! DO NOT go gluten-free until you get the endoscopy & the dh biopsy! If you do then you will be almost assuring yourself of a negative on both counts. You have to be actively eating gluten for BOTH of those!!!!! And I don't mean gluten light. And I don't mean off gluten a week or two & then back on gluten a week or two but... -

ARCHIVED Dog Food
squirmingitch replied to corker's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'll lay money on that it will help! And Karen has good points too. See, her dog's coat & skin got better from the fish. Now my breed, border terrier gets oily coats from more than the occasional fish. And my dog in particular is sensitive to chicken ---- if dogs are sensitive to a meat it's usually chicken. Lamb & venison & rabbit are usually... -
ARCHIVED Dog Food
squirmingitch replied to corker's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Vincent, I will add that feeding a better quality food will reflect in your dogs health & ultimately in the lower cost of vet bills. You can't just look at the price of the food & say OMG! Just like your son when off of gluten, you will be surprised at the difference in your dogs health & vitality. Honest! -
ARCHIVED Dog Food
squirmingitch replied to corker's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I believe that's going to be a 5 lb. bag but not sure as I don't feed that to my dog. But just looking online it looks like the 5 lb. is around the $11 mark. And one thing I would mention ---- you will find you don't need to feed AS MUCH of it as the crappy foods with lots of fillers. Why? Because the dog is getting more nutrients & absorbing the... -
ARCHIVED Rash When Cleaning The Kitchen
squirmingitch replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Did you use any chemicals to clean with? What solution were you cleaning with or was it just water? Was it something you have never used before? If it's something you've used before, is it a new bottle of it? They may have changed the formula. I have had a reaction to dish detergents that I used for years & years & discovered they changed the formula... -
