  1. I get you Karen. I think I read the same book or excerpts from it. If I'm not mistaken though, they were saying those grasses & grains came from the partially digested stomach, intestine, contents of the animals they ate b/c the first thing they go for when they've made a kill is the stomach & intestines. And the mice, rabbits, etc.... eat grasses...
  2. My dog eats grain free food --- ZiwiPeak air dried raw --- except her "cookies" which are rice chex. She was eating grain free long before I found out I have celiac.
  3. As my grocery store is not exactly immaculate in the cleanliness dept. & I almost always see a layer or dust & who knows what on top of the canned goods; I make it a habit to rinse off the lids before opening anything. Besides the obvious, it's just good hygiene.
  4. Karen, Walgreen's is either stupid or lying to you. Think for a minute. Any pill manufacturer has an 800 # so Walgreen's wouldn't have to make a long distance call --- it's 800 #'s. Am I wrong?
  5. Robert, you will need to remind us what foods you can not have besides gluten of course. And it's totally allowed to vent here! We get it. We've all been there. It's hard in the beginning. You're unsure about everything food wise that you see. I know it's frustrating. It's confusing. And sometimes you feel like it's just plain unfair & it stinks...
  6. Hi Sarah & welcome to the board. You are not alone. It certainly sounds like you have some kind of food related problem. And I'm betting it has to do with gluten. Yes, you should try going gluten free & see what happens. Going gluten free is not going to hurt you so that's no problem. I worry about you having anemia though. Do you think you could...
  7. Ah, I see. So we're back to where we were before. If it was 5 yrs. ago though then she certainly didn't get the Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and IgG test b/c that has recently been added to the full panel. And if I were taking bets, I'd bet she didn't get the full panel even w/o the new DGP. Even if she doesn't still have a copy of the tests she...
  8. I believe you are right on in your thinking. I would like to see the more experienced members look at this & answer you. This response will bump your post up & hopefully they will chime in. What did your doctor say? Was it a GI doc or your primary care doc?
  9. Ohhhhh, so she wasn't tested AFTER you? She was tested a few years ago? She needs to be retested & with today's tests. Okay, here is the full panel TODAY: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and IgG Total Serum IgA The DGP test...
  10. Nick, does your mom live in the same town as you & did she see the same doc for the blood tests? Often the full celiac panel is not ordered. There should be 6. She could have had a false negative or a full panel may not have been ordered. Can you get a copy of the test results along with ref. ranges & post them here? Even if your mom saw the same...
  11. I might just give that a go Mary. thanks!
  12. Great tip! Thanks for sharing.
  13. We just had a horrible experience with our CVS being jerks by not refilling my hubs remaining refills for Levothyroxine all because the Dr. closed that practice & opened another. ?????? So we have a problem with CVS b/c they act like jerks! They wouldn't even transfer the scrip to another pharmacy who requested they do so. That's okay. We now use a...
  14. Solgar brand "Vitamins Only" formulation are "sugar, salt & starch free", also free of "wheat, soy, gluten. dairy products, artificial preservatives, flavors & colors". Says it right on the bottle. Solgar phone # 1-877- SOLGAR4 website: www.solgar.com
  15. Have the gluten-free family members ever considered gluten hands touching gluten-free canned goods in the store? Ooooooooo maybe they need to walk around wearing disposable medical gloves so they don't touch anything that gluten hands have touched. Or how about bags of flour breaking & spilling in the store room of the food warehouse or the grocery store...
  16. B&B, I'm so sorry you're itching like the devil. I hope it doesn't last long. From these things we learn though. We learn not to let peer pressure make us do things we know is not the best idea. We learn to be strong & just say NO. And we learn how to protect ourselves. We learn to always take our own food. I'm not honking on you & I truly feel...
  17. Great! Now I will be able to tell him where exactly you ate it. I don't know which restaurant he works at but he should be able to talk to the chef at that one. They probably all have the same recipes. I know they are quite conscious of food allergies/sensitivities & very aware of things like cc. He has been proud to say he has never had anyone get cc...
  18. That's a very interesting piece of information Skylark. I know a chef at Disney ---- I think I'll just ask him for the recipe & post it here if he has it & can give it up.<br class="Apple-interchange-newline">
  19. Great minds think alike shroomie!
  20. You know; you might just go through with the referral if it's not a long trip to the U of I & that way you will be on record there & they will have seen you & then if you ever need to go again for something you will already be "in" so to speak.?????? Sort of like not burning your bridges. I always like to have a hold card.
  21. That is entirely up to you --- your call. But if gluten-free is making you feel better & the rash is calming down some (don't expect immediate miracles with it) then I see no reason to go for an official dx as long as you are comfortable being self dx'd. Most of us are self dx'd out of self preservation!
  22. Hmmmm...... interesting. Thanks kwylee!
  23. THANK YOU ALL SOOOOO MUCH! I KNEW you would come through for me! I have been so frustrated trying to figure it out or find a recipe that was just plain, good old fried chicken. I didn't think of Tapioca flour. The potato flour leaves one with the distinct impression that you have just taken a bite of fried chicken as well as a french fry all in your mouth...
  24. Welcome to the board Teresa! And congratulations on getting a dx.
  25. I would really, really love to be able to make fried chicken nuggets that turn out crispy & stay crispy. So that you don't waste your time providing recipes that are not what I'm looking for, I will stipulate what I'm not looking for: Please no recipes for mock fried chicken baked in an oven. I want something fried in oil. Please no weird flavors...
