  1. You are NOT being a worry wart. You are a concerned and caring parent who knows something is amiss. My suggestion would be to take the pamphlet you received from the nurse and show your child's doctor and asked to be tested for Celiac Disease or be given a referral to a GI specialist. If you go gluten free before testing is done then any test results will...
  2. My son who was 11 at the time, had stomach aches with burning and burping and mild D off and on, and pain in his legs and ankles. They scoped him first, not really suspecting Celiac I think, and took biopsies which showed blunting of villi and some inflammation. Then they did the blood work and he had a slightly elvated antigliadin IGA number which helped...
  3. For lack of a better way, I just wing it. I usually make chocolate chips and I put in a total of 2and 1/4 cups of flour. I use brown rice, white rice, bean flour, soy flour and tapioca. Well, actually I think I usually end up putting in 3 cups of flour to make the consistency not so sticky. The flours listed are in descending order of amount but I am not...
  4. Today they told me that Brachs candy corn had 20 parts per millions whatever that means. The ingredients are gluten-free but cross contamination is a possibility in their facility they said.
  5. Yum, I think I will do the same. Do you know of any candy corn that is gluten-free?
  6. What candy corn is gluten-free? I just called Brachs and they said none of their candy is gluten-free!!
  7. The southern part of Dayton, Ohio. We go to Cincinnati a lot to visit my husband's family.
  8. I just ordered some from the new place called Everybody Eats. I called them to place the order but it hasn't arrived yet. I heard from someone on here they are really good. I talked to one of the men who makes them and he says that they are just like the ones you see and smell in the malls. They are for my 12 year old son and I will let you know how he likes...
  9. Not on the topic, but my husband is a HUGE RUSH fan!!!!!
  10. Thank you everyone who responded. I couldn't raise my Celiac child without your help. This board is fantastic.
  11. My son has to make a paper machie axe for a school project and we used to use a flour (wheat) based recipe for the mix. Does anyone know what we can use now instead of the wheat flour to make paper machie?
  12. Probably sleeping better being gluten-free
  13. Hershey chocolate candy bars are gluten-free so that is one thing you can have right now. There are also some hot chocolate mixes that are gluten-free , I think someone listed them here once but I can't recall what they are. Good luck!!
  14. Thanks for the input. I didn't know that about milk, Katie. I will have to keep that in mind to ask the doc about at a follow-up appointment. There always seems to be something we are wondering about with this condition.
  15. Is there anything else besides celiac disease that causes damage to the villi in the small intestines?
  16. Please include in your book words that kids can actually use when asked by their peers why they can't eat something. Giving kids the words they need to use when others ask about their disease is very helpful. Kinda like giving them words to use when someone offers drugs to them. Maybe your book could even give particular situations and then words for the...
  17. I can relate to this, with 4 kids under 12 AND lose molars that hurt AND gluten free eating it is hard. We just do lots of veggies. frozen ones in the micro wave are what we eat. You can make your own muffins or toast some gluten-free bread and serve with butter and jam. Sweet potatoes with brown sugar work well as a filler and butter and brown sugar make...
  18. Thanks for the recipe Carrie. I will try them for sure. I appreciate your help.
  19. HI, after seeing the Chebe breadsticks mentioned here I made the garlic ones and the cinnamon rolls and the other cheesey breadsticks. They turned out real crunchy on the outside, more cruchy than my son can take right now with losing his molars and having it hurt. Are there any breadsticks premade or to make at home that are soft and chewy instead of crispy...
  20. If you can have dairy then try dunking them in milk. We just tried the Midel this week and they were too hard for my son who is 12 and losing molars, OUCH! I liked them though.
  21. Thanks Jenvan and Kailynsmom for those tips. I will look for the cans and also price the Aunt Jemima too. I appreciate your help.
  22. Yea I know. I have been buying those but I wondered if any other brands suchaas Aunt Jemima or others that are less expensive are gluten-free. My son uses soooo much syrup we are going broke:)
  23. What maple syrups are gluten-free to use on pancakes?
  24. I use Bob's Red mill flours and thought there is the possiblity of cross contamination within the factory and wanted to know if any of you know where I can purchase flours that are made in entire gluten-free facility? I must be able to get them in Ohio or order online if you have suggestions. Thanks
