I've been gluten-free for 12 1/2 years but I'm 14, so I don't remember not being gluten-free. BUT, all I can say is that if I can be gluten-free in high school, YOU CAN BE gluten-free! YOU CAN DO IT!
Heeheehee.

Ooh thanks.

I think it's strange some of us feel this way. People with dairy allergies don't go, "Oh, I feel so different, so left out, etc..." or ppl with other allergies. If I am wrong, I'm sorry please correct me.
Just something I felt like saying.
Btw, for the record, I have never cheated. I don't think I'd be able to. Like, I would really not be able to put the food in my mouth. I don't remember the taste of gluten.

Children absolutely have biopsies. Now, if you had a 1-2 yr. old, then one would not have a biopsy, but at that age you couldn't reasonably test through bloodwork, either. I've had three biopsies.
I had one when I was 2.

I don't know if this topic should go here or in the travel section, but whatever.
Does anyone know any restaurants in Whistler ( ) that are gluten-free/have gluten-free food/ you know what I'm talking about?
Thanks!

I know it's off-topic but I have to say I like your board name. If there was any way to get enough protein, my post above would not have mentioned fish. I'd much rather take pictures of them.
Aw, thanks, but I actually have nothing against fish or whatever. I had just watched Finding Nemo before I signed up here, so that's why it's my name. If you've seen the movie, you know what I mean.
Hahaha. Thanks.

My name's Jackie and I'm 14. Basically, if you toast your bread it'll taste a lot better. Also, peanut butter of whatever takes away the taste of the bread anyway so it doesn't matter to me.
If your daughter wants to talk sometime, I'm here.

I think I'm just so used to it that it doesn't bother me. I know, I haven't tried gluten since I was two, but let's take fries as an example. I know what fries taste like but I can't have the ones at my cafeteria. When my friends buy them it doesn't bother me. Don't know why. I'm lucky. Yay!

I am a normal person. I just happen to have an autoimmune response when I eat gluten. Celiac has never stopped me from doing anything (except for once going to Mexico )

I've been there before and I've had their sauces and they're really good. I didn't get a gluten-free menu though.

Don't worry. Just calm down, and stop thinking about it.
If it makes you feel any better, I'm getting a blood test tomorrow.

If you make some new friends and start off telling them what you dietary needs are, and they are really nice about it, then you should fit in just fine. When you go out to food with friends, enjoy hanging out with your firends and not worrying about tests and school, and just have fun, and eat only what you know is safe. Maybe reccomend a place to eat where you know you can get something, or the place you are going, just talk to the waiter before and see what you could get, and then you don't have to talk during the meal and making sure that it is gluten-free. I always call ahead and talk to the chef, and then he tells me what I can get off the menu, and then I just order that, and no one thinks anything of it.
Just enjoy being able to feel good and not be sick all the time like you would be if you were eating gluten.
If you want to talk email me celiacmolly08@mac.com or send me an IM missmolly3001
Never ever think of cheating again!
Exactly. Some of my friends don't even know I have Celiac lol. Remember to focus on other things other that this.
Stay happy!

Keep in mind that I haven't had any gluten since I was two, so you may not agree with my selections since even I have never tried them...
Breakfast - A hot, fresh bagel and big banana nut muffin
Lunch - PIZZA. I would love to know what gluteny pizza tastes like, and I would have real, deep fried chicken fingers after
Dinner - Hmmm. Hard one. I think really good pasta, like ravioli or something from a really expensive good restaurant with a complicated sauce that tastes amazingly good.
Dessert - Everything. I'm not even going to choose now.

I am posting this for someone who could not get this on here
am writing with regard to Lynne Truss' book, Talk to the Hand. She lists her pet peeves, and among them, lists "gluten intolerance". Additionally, in an effort to be humorous, she says that she wants to be gluten intolerant. Please convey to Ms. Truss that she certainly doesn't want that -- ever.
You see, I don't have Celiac disease -- I've been tested, biopsied, been poked prodded and had tubes placed where they were never meant to be placed. I do, however have "Autoimmune Cerebellar Disease", which is also known as "Gluten Ataxia".
Gluten intolerance is an autoimmune response in the body. Your body sees gluten as foreign, and begins producing antibodies. Unfortunately, my body has produced additional antibodies, and the gluten began destroying the cerebellum of my brain approximately three years ago. It also started destroying my retinas. I went from being a vibrant, energetic Physical Therapist who owned her own clinic to a person who can't get out of the bathtub by herself. I'm in a wheelchair now, have developed double vision in one eye, night blindness and color blindness. Additoinally, I have developed more sequelae from this disease than either of you would ever care to hear.
Obviously, I have made my point. I am insulted, at minimum, that a disease which has devastated my life was taken so lightly. I often hear that "ignorance is bliss", but in this case, ignorance was callous and definitely NOT funny. I hope that in the future, Ms. Truss' editor will provide her better service.
Sincerely,
Lynne Ellingsworth-Wagner, PT
That is an amazing letter. As an aspiring writer, I have to say that if I ever have to write a complaint letter I will refer back to this one. It's really well written.
I hope you get a good reply!

There is no argument.
The answer is no, no cheating.
That's the end of that.

Born and raised in Scarborough. We just moved out of the city (to Durham) last January. I swear there must be something in the water or food or air, but we sure are making kids big now-a-days!!!
Karen
Oh, never mind then. I'm in the Richmond Hill area.

Karen

My MIL used to go home from school (before she quit at age 15--different times Jackie and celiac3270! NO dropping out allowed these days) and make up a batch of icing and dip gumdrops in it for a snack .
I have an 88 average, I wouldn't worry about that lol.

Hey there!
Interesting topic! I'm 5'8" and have been thin my entire life with a whopping size nine foot.
Me too. 5'8, size nine feet and fourteen years old. I was diagnosed at two years old, so it's not like my growth was stunted for many many years, but I think I should be a bit taller than that. I like my height though, it's good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You don't. They should not be used in the same sentence. They are not synonyms.
