  1. Heart pounding and insomnia are two of the symptoms I had when I had Graves disease. It is caused by the thyroid pumping out too much thyroid hormone. You might want to look it up on the Internet and see if the other symptoms apply too. Fortunately I had a doctor who figured it out without me even knowing that my heart rate was galloping like mad (I just...
  2. You might want to see a rhuematologist as you could have Ankylosing Spondylitis, it often starts in the lower back and shows up in young folks often. I hope you don't, it isn't a fun disease to have. But if you do, then bookmark this web site: kickas.org and give a starch free diet a try, lots of AS patients are controlling their symptoms with it. Good...
  3. I thought people might find this article interesting. It suggests there's a relationship between lectins and celiac disease. Open Original Shared Link: Why Red Beans And Rice Can Be Nauseating
  4. I've been Paleo for a couple of years now and I have to say I'm healthier than I've ever been. It takes awhile to adjust and sure, you miss the foods and have occassional lapses, but the good health feels better than the bad foods taste. I'm not 100% paleo about everything, I still drink coffee (probably always will), and I only recently managed to give...
  5. Research this yourself but I've read that not all the genes for Celiac disease have been identified. Some percentage of people with celiac disease, do not have the known genes, so they must have some other gene. Yes, you're in denial. You could end up with cancer or severely compromised health if you don't take the diet seriously. I mean... think about...
  6. There are some doctors that think that celiac can manifest in the colon (versus the small intestine) as an IBD like Crohn's or Colitis.
  7. Personally I think one is as bad as the other. You can have neurological damage with gluten intolerance and celiac, more autoimmune diseases with both, for my money, if you're intolerant to gluten you might as well just count yourself as a celiac because either way, gluten is bad for you. Also, you can be relatively symptom free and be celiac, does that...

  9. You might want to look up articles that have been written and published about gluten-free restaurants in various newspapers, and how their business is booming. There was something recently in the NYTimes, I believe. Go log in there and search for gluten.
  10. Your doctor is ill-informed on celiac disease, you could try to educate her if you think she'd listen. Take a look at "The Gluten File" in my signature. Your question was, "If you were me", so I'll answer it that way. Personally I'd get more aggressive about getting answers with my current medical situation. It is your body and your health and you...
  11. There's always soy intolerance. Some people don't do well on beans, legumes. Some are intolerant of nuts. A good elimination diet would probably be a place to start. Sorry to hear about the Menierries, that is a terrible thing to have! I have a co-worker dealing with it.
  12. Some of your symptoms sound like Graves disease, hyperthyroid, which is found more often amongst celiacs. So make sure your doctor tests your thyroid.
  13. You should take it with fat, it is a fat soluable vitamin. It's also good to take it with calcium and magnesium (not in the same tablet as the D3). You might want to look into vitamin K2. That heartscan doctor blog talks about it as well, but basically it causes your body to deposit calcium into the bones, not the heart!
  14. When you knead dough the strands of gluten bind together and form a matrix that captures gases from the yeast thus causing the loaf to rise. If I were you, I'd probably skip it and go do something else with your friend. They might be too much of an expert to be open-minded about taking in new information from a lay-person. Developing the gluten in...
  15. Open Original Shared Link I take 2000 iu of oil-based D3, Cholecalciferol (Carlson Laboratories), per day. 400iu is probably not nearly enough based on new research. Avoid Ergocalciferol and only get your D3 that is in gel capsules and is oil based and is not combined with anything else, like calcium. You can look up the reasons why at Open Original...
  16. None of those links worked for me!
  17. After reading the stories here I realized I was very unlikely to get a diagnosis through the typical means so I had a chat with myself and asked myself if it really mattered. In the end, no it didn't really matter. I got tested with Enterolab and tried the diet and saw for myself how much better I do.
  18. I hope you're supplementing your B12 now! That's too low. You might heal up some if you get that B12 level up. Check out "The Gluten File" in my siggy, there's loads of stuff in there about neurological issues of celiac disease.
  19. I found I'm sensitive to more than one thing so I had to eliminate dairy and only eat gluten-free grains on occassion and avoid corn. But my stomach is much less pouchy now! And I'm finally losing weight again. However, if I start eating stuff I react to, my belly shows it (and my intestines get unhappy). So give it time and try to find out if there are...
  20. Nothing bad, it means you have lots of B12 in your system. Do you take a supplement? You want to be scared when it falls to the low end, not the upper end! There's more than one sort of anemia, there's anemia you can have that is an iron deficiency and there's anemia you can have when you have a B12 or folate deficiency. So it looks like you don't have...
  21. Personally I don't find it that big of a deal. Gluten didn't add anything to my life I couldn't find elsewhere. I just made the adjustment and went on. Yes, some things in life got less convenient and spontaneous but having the health improvements made it worthwhile.
  22. Every person in the world who is overweight, diabetic, or has some sort of allergy has to deal with this. You're definitely not alone.
  23. 3 days of 95% gluten free isn't going to tell you anything much. Give it a few months of 100% free and see how you feel. Also, I find that dairy products are very constipating so perhaps if you give up the dairy and the wheat at the same time everything will go smoothly (so to speak!). As far as fiber... read this article: Open Original Shared Link
  24. Cows aren't really designed to eat any grain, it is too acidic for them. However, cows are strictly grain fed. It makes them fatten up fast (does that to humans too). To counteract all the terrible things that happen to grain fed cow's rumen (stomachs) they give them loads of antibiotics to keep them alive. This highly acidic environment in their rumen...
  25. I saw a study recently about inhaled gluten causing problem. Sorry to tell you that.
