ARCHIVED Glutenease
marciab replied to terps19's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Terps, How did you do on this ? Did anyone here try this ? Or has anyone tried DPP-IV ? -
Does anyone here who has nuerological symptoms associated with gluten do anything in particular to help overcome their symptoms when they are accidently glutenned ? I don't want to go back to taking meds regularly, but I'm afraid to go visit my family for XMAS because they aren't gluten free ... if anything ... they are glutenous ... Their house...

I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you, but have you tried calling around in your area and asking any of the nueros if they are familiar with nuerological celiac ? I did this when I was looking for a GP. I had the receptionist specifically ask the doctor if he was familiar with celiac before I agreed to make an appt. I have nuerological problems...

ARCHIVED Treatment For Celiac
marciab replied to Joe Hoffman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Joe, I had the type of "D" you mentioned. I'm sure you've tried Imodium, but I'd have to take 3 of these at once to stop my "D" if I had to get out of the house. I'd also stop all liquids. No sips of water even. Not that I'd recommend doing this on a regular basis, but sometimes you have to get out. Imodium is the best "D" medication because... -
I've been wondering about this too. I have nocturnal myoclonus (jerking when going into REM sleep) and insomnia if I eat any gluten whatsoever. I got glutenned Sunday and was feeling the effects Sunday nite when trying to fall asleep. So, I took 1 Benadryl capsule and within an hour I was sound asleep and slept 8 hours. Normally, I would've been doomed...

ARCHIVED When Do I Give Up The Trial Diet?
marciab replied to Tranquillity's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, , I ate a half of a loaf of Carrabba's bread. And yes I was very very sick ... Mine wasn't exactly a planned challenge, more of weak moment. The next time I was smarter and just ate a small amout of plain wheat macaroni. Sick again. IMHO, I'd say, eat whatever you want within reason. A slice of cake, a donut, twinkie, piece of non greasy... -
ARCHIVED When Do I Give Up The Trial Diet?
marciab replied to Tranquillity's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'd recommend a gluten challenge too. Make it something you really want and pig out on it. Just one food group though. No need eating a "blooming onion" to see if you react. I did this 2 or 3 times to convince myself. I'm a little thick though ... And in my defense, I was being exposed to that hot bread from Carrabba's 3 or 4 times a week. Have... -
ARCHIVED Blood Sugar Crash While Sleeping?
marciab replied to sansglutengrl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I only copied in a small portion of this article, but it explains why some people with hypoglycemia have trouble sleeping through the nite ... and what to do about it ... I'd recomend reading the whole article though. Dr. Myhill does an excellent job of explaining all of this ... Oh and even though this was written for people with CFS, our bodies... -
ARCHIVED Blood Sugar Crash While Sleeping?
marciab replied to sansglutengrl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I started on the Paleo diet (meats, veggies and fruits only / low glycemic) in addition to the hypoglycemia diet (eating something every 2 - 3 hours) on November 1st, because of this. And it seems to be helping. I don't feel this way at night anymore and I keep forgetting to eat every 2 - 3 hours during the day. I just don't feel hungry / jittery as often... -
ARCHIVED Cfs Sufferer
marciab replied to SickPuppy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with Fiddle Faddle. Stick to healthy meats, fruits and veggies at this point. Did your doc mention candida or toxins ? Many people with CFS have these too. I was diagnosed with CFS/ME/FM back in 1990 and after 1 year on a diet that is GFDFCFSFEF and chemical free, my ataxia (balance problems), myoclonus (jerking) and insomnia are gone unless... -
Someone PM'd me about this, so I thought I'd just update it. I'd forgotten how bad this used to get. It still gets painful every once in awhile, but now I just get sharp stabbing pains in that area occasionally. My digestive tract was really torn up when I started this diet in 2005, so everytime I add in a new food this is a possibility. I actually...

ARCHIVED Becoming A "celiac Educator"
marciab replied to lonewolf's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
About a year ago, I met a well known dietician who came to our support group to give a lecture on gluten. She had just finished giving the same talk to a group of doctors in our area. I can't for the life of me remember her name, but I wonder how much she makes doing this. She's from Canada ... With your background you'd be a natural. The only problem... -
ARCHIVED Terribly New Too Gluten Free Living ( Sad And Over Whelmed )
marciab replied to MCKMNL's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm sorry to hear you are having such a rough time. If you're planning on being tested for celiac disease, you need to be eating gluten. Did your Osteo tell you about celiac testing ? I found out the hard way that once you start feeling better off gluten, you'll never go back to eating it. So accurate testing will be out of the question. But... -
I'd add probiotics to your diet and do whatever is necessary to get your BMs normal / daily. More than likely more raw fruits and veggies, fiber, coffee, some whole healthy fats (not supplements) like EVOO, grapeseed oil or Fish oil would help. You may have to use a laxative in the beginning to get things moving, but don't depend on them. Eventually...

ARCHIVED Hypoglycemia + Elimination Diet = ?
marciab replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I can't digest eggs, but they have 6 grams of protein in them, so it might work for you. From what I read our bodies utilize meat protein best though. Do you eat luncheon meats ? I don't, but I understand Boar's Head and Deitz and Watson (Sp?) are gluten-free. You'll need to verify that before you buy it though ... You know how tricky this diet can be... -
I agree that you need to get treated soon. You mentioned that you've been through this before so, do you have a Urologist / doctor you could call and ask for antibiotics ? I don't know if they do this, but if you're in a bind, they might. I've heard of people treating their UTIs with that cranberry supplement (AZO ? ). I tried to self treat my last...

ARCHIVED People Think I Am Crazy
marciab replied to mich56's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm 52 and was just diagnosed this year. The GI who did my EGD told me that he just diagnosed an 80 year old man earlier that year who'd been sick all of his life. FWIW: I had problems with my GP after eliminating gluten and having success with my health. So, unless this doctor gets a clue, I'd suggest you find another doctor who is open minded... -
ARCHIVED Hypoglycemia + Elimination Diet = ?
marciab replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
As long as you eat protein every few hours, I think you'll be ok. I'm hypogylcemic and have to eat real meat (Beef roast, steak, salmon, tuna, scallops, pork roast, chicken, etc ) every 3 hours or else I crash. Beans and other protein sources just don't cut it for me, but that might be enough protein for you. -
ARCHIVED Candida Treatment Failsafe?
marciab replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hold the gluten, Unfortunately, no one seems to agree on whether the tests showing candida is present are accurate. Or what probiotics are best. Or what treatments work the best. My GP isn't convinced that the test for systemic candida is accurate and so he doesn't want to run it. And he's open minded. Many people use a combination of probiotics... -
Tiffany, Sounds like you've done your homework on this one. I still have to look up substance P, but I'm familiar with the other things you're talking about. So, maybe I can help a little ... I had a sleep study in 1990 and found out I had nocturnal myoclonous (sleep disorder). This went away on this diet, but comes right back if I get any gluten...

Tiffany, I was wondering if these are the biological findings you are talking about ? I only copied in the part of the article about fibro and tartaric acid. I have to look up the other acids still ... Open Original Shared Link Yeast/Candida Following on from the previous paragraphs above about gut microflora disturbances, we'll now...

ARCHIVED Detox Diet/elimination?
marciab replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Here's what I did that helped. Stop eating any foods that you know bother you. For me that left plain baked chicken or turkey, peas, asparagus, organic plain applesauce, pears and white rice. Eliminate all common allergens. These are gluten, soy, dairy, corn, eggs ... Included in this list, but not as common are peanuts, shellfish, sugar and chemicals... -
Great discussion ... We've learned a lot over the last few years. While I respect Rich's work on the GD-MCB, I was wondering if many of us actually have an overloaded detoxification system as opposed to a blocked detoxification system. And maybe this is just semantics too. I do question his use of supplements to unblock the detoxification system...

I'm happy to hear that you can eat gluten again ... albeit a tad jealous too ... I was thinking that since you and Rachel (I don't know anyone else, but feel free to chime in) have had a lot of experience with gluten intolerance w / celiac, if you could tell others the kinds of things to look for that would cause gluten intolerance. And how you would...
